In a particular office building at the top most office which probably belonged to the manager of the place.
Another group of individuals occupied the space to recuperate and take refugee. There was the bloodied and bruised Jordan lying on the large brown couch that was slightly stained with his blood and as for Jordan himself well he was still injured but not as severely anymore thanks to Rina on that part. A familiar book rested between his hands. His slightly bruised face showing a focused temperament as he flipped through the rare grade treasure [Beginner's guide].
Jordan wasn't one to study hard but he knew the importance of this book especially in the early stages of Evolution. Sitting beside him was the beautiful blonde nurse Rina whose face was slightly pale from all the healing she had done to Jordan. She only stopped when she was sure that his condition was stable.
Sitting on the floor in another corner of the room was the former member of Damien's squad, Nale, who had provided Huey with the much needed information that had helped in his victory. Standing not far from him was a young lady with black straight hair and emerald green eyes in a purple battle robe that seemed to be inscribed with some runes.
Lydia hadn't said a word since Huey went off but from the way she was biting her lower lips showed otherwise. If it was up to her she would have already left and followed after Huey regardless of the danger that lied ahead but she had a duty here to protect her injured friends until they could finally move on their own.
It was at that moment when everyone was silent that they heard the sound of an engine approaching rapidly. Lydia pushed herself off the wall and made her way to the window to take a look. Everyone perked up at that moment. How long had it been since they had heard the sound of an engine rumbling?
It felt like they hadn't seen a moving car in years so hearing one now, they couldn't help but feel nostalgic in a way.
Lydia squinted her eyes to take a closer look. There in the distance she could see a Jeep making its way towards there building.
'Where is it going?' she thought to herself
The jeep surprising stopped right at the street in front of the building they were in. While its engine was still rumbling three of the car doors opened slowly. And three men walked out with their hands in the air. As if in a show of peace.
Lydia was skeptical at first but then she heard something that neither she nor the others would have thought they would.
"Hello!" the man who had come out from the drivers side called. "Huey Coleman sent us to take you to him!"
…
Lydia silently observed each of the men from the back seat of the vehicle. The jeep was moving at a steady pace and there didn't seem to be any one with ill intentions but she still didn't let her guard down for all they knew Huey might have been captured and they were lying about wanting to take them to him. Seating in the back with her were of course Jordan who sat in the middle with Rina beside him, Nale on the other side and one of the three men at the door.
"Do you mind explaining what exactly is going on?" Lydia asked after observing the situation for a few moments. The driver a man in his early thirties with light brown short hair, sunken cheeks and a bush of a beard looked at her for a second through the rear-view mirror before slowly explaining.
He explained briefly how a young man followed by a woman who was slightly older than him had come to attack their shelter as well as how he had only killed the tiger gang members but not the ordinary survivors. He also went to explain how he had killed the gang leader and how leadership was naturally in the hands of this young man.
Then he went on to explain how they were sent to come and get them out here.
"…and well…here we are" the man by the name of Fish said.
Everyone was silent for a moment their thoughts only known to them. However they all had one thing in common.
'He's gotten stronger'
They really needed to keep up.
…
The rest of the ride had been uneventful and quiet. Uncomfortably so
Not long after, they arrived in front of the large gates…sorry gate that led to the apartment complex the one standing gate was opened from within the walls before the jeep strolled through before coming to a stop. They came out of the vehicle. Lydia first followed by Jordan and Rina. Nale and the other man in the back came out the other door.
Fish shut off the engine while the teens looked around in slight awe. There was actually a gaping a hole where they assumed would normally be the front door. Shortly after a bald man adequately built Rod came out to greet them. He had a automatic rifle strapped to his back.
Following behind him was Candice who had a smile on her face.
"Glad you could make it guys" she welcomed them. "So what do you guys think?"
Lydia looked around at the destruction once more before saying "The two of you did all this?"
"Not me I didn't do much honestly" Candice admitted with a grim expression. Seeing this Lydia couldn't help but laugh beside herself. Who would have thought that having a companion as strong as Huey would actually dim their morale instead of doing the opposite. Thinking to this point she couldn't help but feel a small bit of pride for some reason.
"Speaking of which where is he anyway?" Rina asked
"Well…he fell asleep soon after the fight ended" Candice explained in a soft voice.
"WHAT!? And you're only telling us that now!?" Lydia unknowingly raised her voice and even when she realized this she didn't correct herself. Her heart was beating irrationally fast and she couldn't help but worry. They only way Huey would be sleeping at this time would be due to severe injury.
Candice didn't say anything on this. She could see the worry clearly evident in everyone's eyes but whe she looked at Lydia she could see something deeper, something beyond just worry.
'It seems that she hasn't realized it herself. Oh well who am I to get in between love' Candice thought to herself.
"I can show to the room he is in" Candice suggested and Lydia nodded quickly almost as if she was afraid that Candice might change her mind on the topic. Candice merely smiled a knowing smile and Lydia found herself blushing in mild embarrassment. "Okay Rod please lead Jordan and Rina to a room so they can rest as well?"
Rod nodded. He didn't seem to mind that he had to give Jordan and Rina respect even though they were younger than him. But he could see that Jordan and Rina were both evolvers brave enough to fight in this chaotic apocalypse to it was only natural that he held a slight respect for them and on the plus side they gave him a good impression.
Candice silently led Lydia through the lobby and up the stairs to the first floor were Huey's room was. When they arrived at his door Candice finally spoke:
"Good luck" before she turned around and started walking away.
