Chapter 37 - Chapter 35: Misunderstanding [1]

I heard something akin to a low growl coming from a distance inside the building and I immediately went on guard as I gripped the piece of meat in my right and reached for my sword which was on the floor beside me. I shut my eyes for a moment and listened attentively.

Jordan and Rina and Lydia didn't seem to hear it and for a moment I thought that maybe I had misheard.

Just when I dropped my guard my ears picked up on some movement from a short distance away. I moved before anyone else would react. My speed was ghostly but then again considering how much my system window had grown I guess it was to be expected.

What our brave protagonist didn't know was that even for a high level First Star Order being his stats were already a step into the early stages of the Second Star Order.

When Candice had woken up to the delicious smell of meat she had thought that for a moment she had died and was in heaven but then her stomach growled and she felt a slight sting in her eye where Jace, the Tiger Gang leader, had hit her and immediately the black haired beauty knew that she wasn't in heaven.

But if she wasn't in heaven then that meant that somebody else was in her currently hiding place. She moved out of the stall in which she had been sleeping in previously and as silently as she could manage she made her way to the front of the store. She used her and she heard the voices of several people chatting away as well as the sound of something crackling.

She managed to move behind one of the fallen shelves which when she heard the air rapidly rashing in her direction.

'What's that?' she thought in confusion and stayed still. But soon her eyes dilated and she ducked it was out of pure instinct. After staying and travelling along for almost a week Candice had developed a sort of sixth sense especially when it came to danger.

A split second after she just ducked a long blade sharply stabbed through empty spot where her throat would have been. She spent a minute to look at where the attack came from and she realized that it was coming from the other side of the shelf!

'Damn they found me!' she thought to herself. It was the only thought that made sense to her. The Tiger gang must have found her. She took out her dagger and prepared for the upcoming assault however the shelf tip in her direction and actually started falling over her. Candice grit her teeth and turned around as fast as she could however the shelf had fallen far faster than she had reacted.

Before she could get completely out of the shelf's range she felt a force akin to a hammer fall onto her lower right leg. She felt her ankle snap and break as the edge of the shelf completely fell over her right leg. Her body fell forward like a comet and before she could realize it a pained moan escaped her small lips. For a moment her world went blank and when she regained her senses she felt someone looming over her. Her eyes met the tip of a black polished blade that was uniquely made. It looked otherworldly and the segments that were traced along different sections of the long blade made her think so.

Her eyes trailed further up and to her surprise she met radiant brown eyes belonging to a young bronze colored boy who looked at her with suspicion but he chewed on what looked like a large version of a chicken leg. The young boy looked to be in his teens but the fact that he was wearing black combat gloves as well as pointing a sword at her made the whole situation look a little awkward. Her eyes swelled up slightly. How come she was this unfortunate today?

This young man who had actually managed to overpower Candice in such an unorthodox manner was none other than our protagonist.
