Chapter 4 - Stepping Towards Seoul

The following day, as the soft sunlight illuminated their bunker, the moment Kim Tae Kyung and Hye Rin had been eagerly awaiting finally arrived. They were about to leave the bunker that had been their home for twenty years and embark on a journey to Seoul.

Hye Rin was ready with her backpack filled with supplies, and Tae Kyung wanted to ensure that everything was in order before they left the place that had protected them for so long.

Tae Kyung sat beside Hye Rin, surveying all the supplies spread out before them.

"Rin, are all the supplies ready? We can't afford to forget anything."

Hye Rin nodded, double-checking all the provisions they had prepared.

"Everything's ready, big brother. Food, water, clothing, medications, it's all here. I've also brought some documents we found in our father's journals. They might come in handy on our journey."

Tae Kyung felt relieved seeing his meticulous younger sister's preparations. He knew this journey would be a significant test for both of them, and thorough preparation was crucial. However, he also wanted to ensure that Hye Rin understood that this journey might not go as smoothly as they hoped.

"But, Rin," Tae Kyung said with a serious tone, "we must remember that this journey will be dangerous. The outside world has turned into a harsh and unfriendly place. We have to be cautious and stick together. You can't stray too far from me, and if anything happens, let me know immediately. I'll protect you with everything I have."

Hye Rin nodded earnestly. She knew her brother only wanted the best for her, and she would do her best to follow Tae Kyung's instructions.

"I understand, big brother. I'll always stay close to you and keep you informed about everything that happens."

Tae Kyung smiled, feeling reassured that his sister understood the importance of their safety. Both of them had faced so many obstacles in their lives, and now they were ready to confront this new challenge together.

With all the preparations they had made and the agreement they had reached, Tae Kyung and Hye Rin were ready to leave the bunker that had been their home for twenty years. They didn't know what they would encounter in the outside world, but they had the determination and desire to find answers about their mysterious birthmarks and seek new adventures. Together, they stepped out of the bunker, prepared to face the unfamiliar world with hope and unwavering resolve.

Tae Kyung and Hye Rin stood in front of their father's specially prepared car. Tae Kyung had meticulously readied the vehicle for their upcoming journey, and the heavy snow blanketing the streets of Geumjeong-gu didn't deter them. Hye Rin gazed at the car in awe, knowing that this was the vehicle that would take them across the unknown world.

Tae Kyung swung open the car door and walked towards his younger sister with a smile. "We're all set, Rin. This is our ride to Seoul. Hopefully, this car will help us navigate the snowy roads."

Hye Rin nodded, approaching the car with enthusiasm. "This is amazing, Big Brother. I can't wait to see the outside world."

Tae Kyung opened the car's trunk and retrieved two large bags containing supplies, along with the weapons he had prepared. He handed one bag to Hye Rin and placed the other on the back seat. Then, he retrieved a rifle with enough ammunition and handed it to his sister.

"Hye Rin, this is a rifle and ammunition for you," Tae Kyung said solemnly. "I know you've never used a weapon before, but we don't know what we might encounter out there. It's a tool for precaution, in case we face wild animals or other dangers."

Hye Rin accepted the rifle with great responsibility, feeling the weight of it. "I'll take good care of it, Big Brother. Thank you."

Next, Tae Kyung retrieved two long hunting knives from inside the car. He fastened one to his waist and gave the other to his sister. "I'll use these knives as our defensive weapons. They might come in handy if we have to confront any approaching threats. Remember, these knives are not toys and should be used with caution."

Hye Rin nodded solemnly, gripping the knife with determination. "I'll learn how to use it properly, Big Brother."

With all preparations complete, Tae Kyung and Hye Rin climbed into the car, feeling ready to continue their journey. Tae Kyung looked at his sister with hope and determination. "We'll watch out for each other, Rin. Together, we can face anything we might encounter."

Hye Rin smiled, exuding confidence from her eyes. "We will, Big Brother. We'll uncover the answers about our birthmarks and face the outside world bravely."

With that, they began their journey into a mysterious and perilous world. Although they didn't know what lay ahead in Seoul or on their journey, they possessed a strong resolve and trust in each other to embark on this adventure together. In their togetherness, Tae Kyung and Hye Rin felt that nothing was impossible, and they were prepared to confront all challenges that lay ahead.

Tae Kyung sat in the driver's seat of the car, his focus unwavering, while Hye Rin sat beside him, clutching a map in her hands. Even though they had left the bunker that had served as their refuge for so long, they had to remain vigilant on their journey.

"Plot our route, Rin," Tae Kyung said, looking at his younger sister with hope in his eyes.

Hye Rin unfolded the map and carefully examined it. Her eyes scanned from one section of the map to another, searching for the best path to reach Seoul.

"Brother, according to this map, we can go through the Geumjeong-gu district and then head towards the Gwangan Bridge. From there, we can enter the city."

Tae Kyung nodded, agreeing with his sister's plan. "Alright, we'll go through the city. I wouldn't recommend taking the expressway or the freeway. The cold air and strong winds can be very dangerous out there."

Hye Rin continued to chart the route on the map, identifying the small roads that would lead them into the heart of Seoul. Every turn and street they would pass had to be carefully considered, given the extreme conditions outside.

With the map as their guide, Tae Kyung drove cautiously. Their car navigated streets mostly blanketed in thick snow. Hye Rin kept a close eye on the map, ensuring they didn't get lost amidst the potential confusion brought about by the harsh weather.

As they passed through Geumjeong-gu, they saw sights that reminded them of the world they had once known. Abandoned buildings covered in snow created a somber landscape, but Tae Kyung and Hye Rin pressed on with unwavering determination.

Hye Rin continued to monitor the map, providing the necessary directions to reach the Gwangan Bridge. Both of them were aware that this was only the beginning of a long and challenging journey.
