Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Trishul

When I woke up, the plane was surprisingly lively. It looked like a lot of the people were busy talking. Well maybe I would have to talk to the hostess for my dinner but that was fine. I remembered that a lot of the people on this plane, were people that were also migrating to the USA for the same purpose as me. Maybe they were all talking about leaving their whole country based on a gamble that the job would be worth it.

Around this time, the cart with all the food was brought by the air hostess to where my seat was. She handed me a small menu of options then asked me what my choice was. I just gout what was easiest, which was a burger with some fries. She quickly reached under the cart and pulled out a box and handed it to me. While I was eating the burger, I noticed that the person sitting right next to me was watching a video by an up and coming youtuber who did reports on domus and all the things the earth humans were doing. Though the war was mainstream knowledge by now, there were only a few people that knew about the Colossals , the opposing race. But now they would. The video was showing a couple clips of the war and the enemy. A lot of the comments were saying that the enemy race was too intimidating and that they wouldn't be taking part in the war. Mostly joking though, I suppose most people whom were taking the role would have to fight the war in some way.

I get it honestly, to see the Collosals up front would be quite intimidating. But maybe due to my clarity attribut e, I felt that even the intimidation of seeing a creature ten times larger than me would affect my state of mind. I wouldn't know for sure without actually being in a fight with the race first. I pulled up the same video summarizing all the things we now knew about the new world. Most of the points I was aware about. They were fairly basic after all. The ones I didn't know about were the things that I wasn't interested in. Such as the art in the world, their cuisine and so forth. There were some related to science, but really it was stuff that was too complicated for me to understand the implications.

Right now there were about 6 hours left for the flight landing, I figured that I could go train in Domus for the last bit of the flight. Quickly, entered Domus. Right now it was quite late at night, so I was trying to be as quiet as possible before entering the training centre. Inside, I connected up to the training system and set up the more advanced trident training. Though it was still pretty basic, it wasn't gonna be just practicing hits against static enemies. The enemies would move and could also hit back.

I pressed start and summoned my weapon which felt just as comfortable as it has before. I stood around for a couple more seconds before a holograph showed up in front of me. According to the description I had read earlier, ther would be a dummy that would act as a low lveled human fighter. Even though I had not fought before, I still thought I had a chance. The exact thought was 'Surely it isn't that bad.' Oh how wrong I would be. You see the thing is, making strikes was the easy part. It seemed that when I was given the weapon I had some innate ability to use it. So attacking was covered, but my defence was non existent. The first time the dummy swung I had no clue what to do, I tried raising my weapon to block, but the hold was too weak. He just broke through the block and hit me square in the chest with his blunt sword. It didn't hurt cause as soon as the dummy notices that its about to make contact, it slows down to not cause too much damage.

Even though it wasn't a strong hit, I still got knocked off balance. My ego was kinda hurt so I stood back up intending to dodge the next time it attacked. I started the training again and the dummy did a similar movement as before and swung its sword from the left side aiming at my gut. I thought I could simply step back and then counter attack while he was still recovering, this was quite a basic manoeuvre so I could dodge the attack. But later on when I tried to attack, I found that my right foot was not in the right position to launch a strong attack, so the strike I made had no weight to it. I had gone for a quick stab to the side of his leg, it just felt the most natural. But because it had no weight to it, it was quite a weak attack.

Before the dummy could strike again, I paused the training. I needed to think about this for a while, it looked like I need practice on my technique more than anything. I had no idea why though, I felt it shouldn't have been that hard to execute basic movements. I started the training again hoping to gain an insight as to what might have been going wrong. The thing is there was no major difference between the two tries, it just went the same. And so it would, again and again for 4 more tries. Slowly though I started to understand the difference.

The weapons I had read about from books, had seen in movies and heard stories about, were fundamentally different from the trident in my hand. I expected it to move a completely different way then it did. Though it felt like a part of my body, it felt more like a sixth finger than another limb. I had to try and figure out the right technique I needed to use for the weapon. Unfortunately, I had no idea how I was going to do that. I had no idea how to contact Shiva and I knew nobody in the military outpost who used a trident. For now what made the most sense to me though, was to just practice.

Following that thought, I set up the training regiment and went again. This time though, I tried to be more conscious of the weapon and its movements, more so than my own. How it swung, how my fingers curved around it, how heavy it felt in my hand and even the way the air moved around it. When I did so, I learnt quite a bit more about the weapon. How it tended to spin around a certain point close to the prongs, how aerodynamic it was and how it cut through the air. This way, I felt more comfortable with the weapon and started to block more shots, though dodging was still out of the books. It still wasn't perfect though. The blocks would break every now and then if I tried to be more aggressive. I just needed more time though. I did this for half an hour and so and I felt a lot better about the way I moved with the trident in my hand. I wanted to take a short break, so I sat down and looked closer at the trident. It really was quite intimidating to look at. It looked destructive, and elegantly so. "I wonder if I'll ever be able to master you, trident." I said to the weapon almost expecting a reply.

"You mean trishul," a voice said. There were just too many voices in my head at this point man. But again there was another mature voice in my mind. "Who was that?" I asked out loud. Hoping that it was a real person because I was tired of the amount of people giving me advice, I eagerly waited for a reply. I guess I am too unlucky for that since it seemed like there was no sound in real life. Another voice on the list, it seemed. "What did you say?" I spoke to my mind this time. "I like Trishul more than trident, that's it." Wait, the tride-the trishul was talking to me. "Could you always speak? I don't think I've ever heard you before." I looked down at him before asking. "Well, I could but you weren't paying enough attention so I didn't." I pretended I knew what he was talking about, before saying "Well, its nice to meet you." The trishul seemed to hesitate a bit before saying "You haven't really met me yet. Could you even meet me, I'm just an object after all?" "To be fair I've never seen an object talk so.." I replied quickly. He seemed satisfied enough with my answer and moved on to a different topic. "You don't understand me truly, you think too much of me as a weapon." This is where my brain really did just give out. A weapon was talking to me as if it were a person and telling me that I didn't understand it enough. I gave the most default answer I could because I really couldn't think about a real one "Uh huh." He seemed to sense my hesitation but continued on with his point. "Well to put it more clearly, you treat me as an external being but you should treat me as a part of your body. That should help with your synchronization issues." The thing is the weapon already felt like a part of my body, as I said before. So how could I further treat the weapon as a limb. "I know that seems confusing but you just need to practice a little more before you understand what I mean." the weapon said. To me, that made sense. I just needed to keep in mind the advice the trishul had given me.

I thought about training some more, but after looking at the time I realized that the flight was probably going to land soon so I needed to head back to the real world. In Domus, it was around 1:30 am so people were going to sleep now. The thing is, the times in the worlds seem to be mirrored. That way I could enter Domus when I sleep in the real world, and sleep in Domus for the day in the real world. So it was 1:30 Pm in reality. That gave me just half an hour until the flight would land. I signed off for the day on the main panel and went to bed.

Just as I hit the bed, my eyes opened on the plane. At the time people were packing up their bags, making sure they got their chargers and earphones before leaving. I looked out the window and noticed a wide sprawling landscape of a city, and LA's beautiful skyline. The airport below was quite the standout building as well, drawing all attention. The plane was still high enough that I couldn't make out any specific details though. I guessed it would be another 15 or so minutes before we land. I refocused my eyes on my phone, since at this point an email with more information for the recruits would have gone out. I looked through my email app before noticing an email from the same account that the recruitment one had come from. The subject for the email was "Further information for our newest citizens." I wanted to read it, but I knew that I probably needed more than 15 minutes to go through it so I left the email app and headed to youtube. I thought about watching more information on Domus, but decided against it. Opting to look at a video about LA's greatest tourist spots. I deserved a break at this point. I sat back and waited for the flight to land.
