Chereads / Ascension of Soulweaver / Chapter 9 - A Second Chance

Chapter 9 - A Second Chance

As Navak drifted through the void, he felt an eerie sensation wash over him. It was as if he was no longer bound by the limitations of his physical body. Instead, he felt weightless and free, his spirit unbound and untethered. And then he saw it – a golden figure, shimmering in the darkness around him. The figure was enigmatic and mysterious, and Navak couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder in its presence.

Navak noticed the mysterious golden figure that surrounded him. While he had transformed into a glowing orb in his soul form, the figure retained the shape of a physical body. Even if he could see physical structure he couldn't make out his appearance. It was as if something was stopping him from knowing about the figure. Navak was filled with wonder and amazement as he observed the golden glow that flickered and danced around the figure, wondering what secrets it held.

Navak couldn't help but feel curious and somewhat uneasy. He took a deep breath and finally spoke up, "Excuse me, but where am I exactly and how can I still think even after my death?"

The golden figure turned towards him and replied, "You are currently in the void between reality and the soul realm. That was the portal that led to the soul realm. As for your second question, even I do not know how it is possible."

Navak pondered on this for a moment before asking, "Where are we going?"

"You will know soon enough," the figure answered cryptically.

Navak couldn't help but feel frustrated with the vague responses. "And what do you mean by 'task of destiny'?" he asked, hoping for a more concrete answer.

The figure sighed before responding, "Your destiny or fate will reveal it to you. It is not my place to entertain you with the answers you seek."

Feeling a little defeated, Navak finally asked, "May I ask who you are?"

The figure simply replied, "I am someone you cannot fathom. But let us put an end to the questioning, for we are about to reach our destination."

Navak was filled with even more questions, but he knew that further inquiries would not yield any satisfactory answers. He wondered what his destiny held for him and why he had been chosen for this task. He hoped that he would find the answers soon, for the uncertainty was weighing heavily on his soul.

As they moved through the void, Navak couldn't help but feel a strange sensation of being pulled towards something. It was as if his destiny was calling out to him, and he had no choice but to follow its call. The golden figure remained silent, and Navak knew that any attempts at conversation would be futile.

As they traveled further, Navak could sense a shift in the atmosphere around them. The void was beginning to thin out, and he could see a faint light in the distance. It was growing brighter with each passing moment, and Navak's heart began to race with anticipation.

Finally, they emerged from the void, and Navak was greeted with a breathtaking sight. They were standing on a floating platform, suspended in a sea of clouds. In front of them stood a massive portal, radiating a blinding white light.

"This is it," the figure said. "Your fate awaits you on the other side of this portal."

Navak was taken aback by the sudden change in atmosphere as they entered a breathtakingly beautiful place. He couldn't help but marvel at the vibrant colors and the seemingly endless expanse of the landscape. "Oh, what a beautiful place. What place is this?" he asked, turning to the golden figure.

But before the figure could answer, Navak felt a sudden jolt of urgency in his mind as the figure spoke to him. "You will know it on the other side. Go fast, my power is at its end. You should cross over fast. If they notice the anomaly, they will come for you. So go fast. After you're out of here, they won't be able to detect you."

Navak didn't fully understand what the figure meant, but he could sense the urgency in his tone. He nodded and focused his attention on the task at hand, quickly making his way towards the other end of the portal. As he crossed over, he knew that he had made it to the other side.

As Navak gazed downwards, he could recognize the cityscape of Earth below him. It was as if he was transported back to his own planet. However, he couldn't shake off the feeling that this could be a parallel universe, mimicking everything he was familiar with.

In an attempt to find some solace, he took a deep breath and shifted his gaze upwards towards the sky. The sky was familiar, yet it felt different. There was a sense of purity and clarity that he had never experienced before.

As Navak's thoughts swirled with confusion and uncertainty, a mysterious voice pierced through the chaos, whispering, "Survive little one." Before he could make sense of the situation, he felt an immense force tugging at his soul, pulling him towards an unknown destination. The speed of the experience was dizzying, leaving Navak bewildered and struggling to grasp the reality of what was happening to him.

The pulling force abruptly halted, leaving Navak in a state of confusion. He felt relieved for a moment, but that relief was instantly replaced with a feeling of suffocation as he gasped for air, only to be met with water. He realized he was submerged and struggled to comprehend the situation.

As Navak struggled for breath, his mind was clouded with confusion and panic. How could he be choking in his soul form? It made no sense to him, and he couldn't think straight. When Navak attempted to move his body subconsciously in an attempt to escape suffocation, he was taken aback by the sudden realization that he could actually feel his limbs again.

At first, he was shocked, and a sense of fear crept over him. But as he moved his limbs and felt his body, he realized that he was back, back in his physical body. A wave of joy and relief washed over him as he realized that he had been given a second chance at life. He had survived.

As he tried to swim away, he felt something stopping him. When he looked down, he saw that his legs were tied together tightly. He struggled to get free, but it was no use. He searched for a way out, his heart racing with confusion. Suddenly, he saw what was causing his trouble - a heavy stone block tied to his legs, pulling him down into the water.

The realization struck him that his assailant had taken measures to ensure that not even his lifeless body would surface from the depths of the water. His teeth clenched with fierce determination as he vowed to avenge his attacker.

As each second passed, his lungs screamed for air as he struggled to hold his breath underwater. He knew he couldn't last much longer before he lost consciousness. To his relief, the knot tying his legs wasn't as tight as he had feared, likely due to the thickness of the rope. Despite the murky water obscuring his vision, he frantically groped for the knot, feeling his way along the rough fibers. Finally, after a moment of desperation and intense effort, the knot gave way.

He thrashed wildly, propelled by an intense fear of death and the primal instinct to survive.. His arms and legs flailed in uncoordinated motions, fighting against the weight that dragged him down.Despite having never learned to swim, his body somehow knew what to do, moving with an almost instinctual grace as he fought his way to the surface.

As his head broke through the water, he drew in great gulps of fresh air, the sensation of oxygen filling his lungs with life sending shivers of relief through his body. It was the most delicious, intoxicating sensation he had ever felt, and for a moment he lay panting and gasping, his heart racing with the shock of what had just happened. As he gradually regained his composure, he realized that his ordeal was far from over, even if it was over he wouldn't let it end.

A white-hot anger burned within him. He knew he couldn't let this go, not after what he'd been through. He swore to himself that he would find whoever had tried to take his life and make them pay, with interest. Nothing would stop him from seeking the justice he deserved.

As he lifted his gaze towards the sky, the darkness enveloped his senses, and his eyes struggled to make out any discernible shapes. The quietness was all-encompassing, punctuated only by the gentle rustling of leaves in the soft breeze. There was still time before dawn.

"I gotta get outta here before the sun comes up."

He tried to keep himself afloat and scanned the riverbank for any signs of danger. His heart raced as he saw a group of people working in the distance, but he couldn't tell if they were friend or foe. He needed to act fast.

As he desperately searched for a way to escape without alerting anyone, Navak's eyes scanned the riverbank for any sign of cover. Finally, his gaze fell on a thicket nearby. It looked like a tangled mess of shrubs, bushes, and small trees, but it was a structure that could provide him with cover.

He made his way towards the thicket, moving cautiously and silently, checking for any signs of movement around him. As he reached the edge of the thicket, he crouched low and surveyed the area again. He could hear the sound of the river rushing past, but there was no other sound except for the occasional chirping of birds.

With a deep breath, he crawled through the thicket, trying to avoid breaking any branches or disturbing the leaves. It was tough going, and the branches caught at his clothes, but he persevered. Finally, he emerged on the other side, feeling relieved that he had made it without being spotted.
