Chapter 9 - Skill Chest Wants All My SP

Larcen stood behind a car and spied on the people who were fighting the goblins valiantly. He wanted to join and fight but he realized that it was a foolish idea after he checked the stats of the people who were fighting along with the stats of the goblins.

The average strength stat was around 0.5 while stamina and agility were at 0.6. He was lacking in two of the most important stats and he only found out why after he browsed his memories. Jack never exercised and was a chain smoker, both of which resulted in him having below-average stats.

The goblins were all at 0.5 in all stats except mana like the others but they had a talent that increased their stats by 20% when in a group of more than 10.

Larcen glanced at his arm and waited, hoping to get at least one more system point so he could buy the body regeneration pill.

'With this injury and my shitty stats, even if I join, I'll be a dead weight.'

He did think of going back but he also realized that staying in a group was the best choice for now as he lacked individual power. He took a quick look at the fight before turning around and running.

'I will come back. But joining now is not a good idea... I'll have to break into one of the houses here and hide for a few hours.'

He ran into another road and climbed a gate before heading towards the door. He wished that he had some lockpicking skills but he knew that he didn't. The house seemed to be empty but he knew that there was a high chance of someone being unconscious inside.

Not knowing how to break in through the door, he walked towards one of the windows and hit it using the back of his machete as hard as he could which did break the glass. He then carefully climbed in whilst trying not to get scraped by the glass.

Once inside, he scouted the room and quietly walked to the other ones. The house seemed to be devoid of human presence until he entered the last room where two twin babies turned to look at him.

He would've considered them cute if only their whole body wasn't covered in large boils that seemed to have burst multiple times before bulging back again. A few bones were on the floor near their cradles while long hair was sprawled across the floor, stuck to it due to the dried-up blood.

One of the babies crouched down and licked the dried blood before looking back up with some of the hair dangling off its mouth. The other one simply smiled, revealing sharp metallic teeth that seemed to have grown in random locations in its mouth as some were even on its tongue.

This was the first time that he found out what nauseousness felt like. He was about to close the door and leave the house silently but the baby that had smiled at him growled. It growled again but louder this time before running towards him like a four-legged animal.

It was fast but the goblins were faster. He brought his machete down without any reservation and cleaved its whole body in two before glancing at the other one which now looked angry. It stood up, unlike its dead twin, and ran towards him, stumbling along the way but using its hands as limbs just like the other one.

The only difference was that it looked extremely unsettling as it crawled with two hands and one of its feet while the other one dangled in the air. Larcen used his flow state this time and focused on the mutant baby coming towards him.

He didn't slash this one but instead gave it an extremely hard kick which sent the baby crashing into the wall but it used the wall as a footing to jump at him. Larcen simply brought his machete down and the baby had its head sliced off.

He released the flow state and the moment he did, everything that was inside his stomach was pushed out of his mouth. He didn't look at the contents of his creation and simply left the room before he locked it from the outside and walked towards the bathroom to clean himself up.

He rinsed his mouth and washed his face before looking at himself in the mirror. A guy with above-average looks, lustrous black hair, and emerald-green eyes stared back at him.

'Would looks even matter when the whole world is about to be doomed?', he asked himself as he walked out of the room and munched on an energy bar. He checked the notifications he had received when he killed the baby mutants and what he saw made him happy.

{Killed a stage 1 mutant +4 SP}

{Killed a stage 1 mutant +4 SP}

The first thing he did after he read that was to navigate to the shop and clicked on the buy option beside the body regeneration pill.

{Insufficient SP}

"What?", he muttered as he frowned, searching for where his System points went.

System Points = 0

That was what was being displayed on his status screen. He stared at it in disbelief and cursed whoever stole his points while he opened up every single window to check where it was gone because he was sure that he had received them as the notifications were still present.

A few minutes later he spotted them under the skill chest icon which read, (8/100)

He did not remember using his points there so he tried asking the system, only to receive the silent treatment.

He gave out a long sigh as he sat on the bed and rubbed his forehead, 'I should probably stop expecting SP to enter my balance when I get kills personally. For all I can tell right now, if I get direct kills, they'll all go toward the unlocking of a skill chest.

I can only rely on others for usable SP and lastly, the mutated humans give out a total of 10 SP while I still don't know about the goblins...'
