Chapter 31 - Fire

In a futuristic meeting room bathed in neon purple light, three people sat at the center. Two were stunningly beautiful women, and the third, was an extremely handsome man. They were surrounded by scientists in glasses and lab coats.

Before them, a hologram showed a towering structure partly buried in the ground amidst broken cars and buildings. The focus was on a man in the hologram, sitting on top of a car, firing bullets into the air.

The room felt tense and curious as everyone watched the holographic man's actions with fascination. They had never seen anyone run towards the tower and attack the monster ever in their lives and even when such a thing occurred, those people would've died.

One of the two women banged the table with her balled fist, "Just who is this guy? Also, how in the hell did those donkeys upgrade their useless tower?"

The scientists looked down at the ground, trying to not meet her eyes but the other girl sitting beside her spoke.

"Sister Helen, we have no choice but to transfer energy from our end so that the towers can function optimally. The mana on that planet is very low at this moment. Also, we have to first find out what is happening on that planet since we cannot tell how these guys are getting weapons out of thin air and how they suddenly got those bizarre abilities.

I suggest sending one of our divers to that planet to learn about the things that are going on. All we know is that the Tower of Preservation got a temporary upgrade and according to our predictions, it must either be another faction that has decided to show their fangs now or some other lone High Human who discovered a tower by luck."

"That will be risky.", a very deep voice resounded in the room and everyone turned toward the sound. It was the other high human sitting in the room. He waited for a few seconds before continuing.

"All of our members are experienced divers and we spent a lot of resources on them. Sending them will be risky as they are not high humans and they will be unable to use Aether as the mana in that world is of very low quality. Sending them is a waste so I suggest hiring some citizens who have contributed a lot to the city."

Helen took a deep breath and nodded, "For now, give the tower some energy from our side so that it can awaken sooner. It's infuriating to see such a weak human killing so many of those creatures. Ugh, so much life energy wasted!"

She then looked at the scientists as she spoke haughty, "Find out the best candidates for diving in two days. I want someone knowledgeable and skilled. Now, all of you can get out."

The man and the other woman walked out first before the scientists and took separate lifts. The woman waited for a few seconds before tapping on her watch, and calling someone.

"Grand Master, they're planning on spending Aether energy on the towers soon and they're also going to send some new divers into that world. This is the only chance we have to protect a planet from their clutches so we should also send some of our men. I will go there myself if we lack manpower."

Meanwhile, on Earth-0485, Larcen swallowed his own saliva as he bought multiple regeneration pills from the shop. Monsters circled him from all sides while he slowly stood up from the car and jumped off it, his pistols already pointing at the monsters. He didn't even have to aim as anywhere he shot, he would hit one of them.

Bullets shot out of the barrel while Larcen ran in one direction and switched weapons once the magazine was empty. Two long machetes appeared in his hands as he slashed at the incoming monsters, brutally breaking their bones and cutting through their flesh.

A sudden ear-piercing wail hurt his head again which caused him to lose focus even in his flow state. He felt immense pain in his arm once he did and punched the lizardman that had chomped on his arm.

He jumped backward and ate a regeneration pill as he ran, jumping on cars before going for the first floors of buildings. The monsters followed but none of them had the speed he was showing. While his arm healed, he took out a gun and reloaded it before doing the same with another gun.

Standing at the rooftop, he shot at the monsters below, quickly emptying his rounds and reloading quickly and emptying that round too. He did not care about the ammo wastage and by the time those few lizardmen climbed to the top, Larcen had already emptied a total of six magazines.

The empty magazines fell to the ground as two more appeared between his fingers, which he quickly pushed into their slots before aiming at the narrow stairway. The Lizardmen that had just walked out were sprayed with bullets.

'Yeah.... this is way safer. I feel so dumb ugh, why did I even try to fight them in close quarters when I had a superior weapon?'

Magazines upon magazines were emptied out as more monsters walked through the stairway but after a certain point, he did not see any walk out. The weird uneasy feeling rose in his chest again which got him to stand up and see what was happening.

The Lizardmen and goblins were eating the corpses of their dead mates and once he saw what they were doing, he aimed his gun at their heads and shot at them. While he did so, he heard screeches and wails coming from the other side and went to check what was going on, only to see the banshees trying to climb up the walls.

Yet again, he shot at them but this time, he was also looking at his screen. A few seconds later, a bunch of red containers appeared around him along with a notification in front of his face.

'These assholes should just burn.... shooting at them is a waste of energy.'
