It was hard to achieve control regardless, since he was controlling external energy that had already materialized into flames rather than the energy within him. The level of difficulty was evident.
Though Malachi managed to assert control over the flames, it was only to the level of increasing and reducing the intensity and output of the flames in his hand.
From another person's point of view, this was already impressive enough, but Malachi was dissatisfied.
While he wondered why his ability seemed different from the original and also had an idea of why it might be so, Malachi didn't feel like the change was exactly a bad thing.
