Malachi doubted what he just heard. He turned to look at David and then turned to look at Leo before returning his gaze back to David.
He felt he must have misheard.
"Sorry, what did you say again?" he inquired.
Seeing his father's reaction was a little surprising to David, as his reaction to his words was unexpected.
For one, Malachi was supposed to be unaware of the power of the zombie they had fought, so that shouldn't have been a reason for his reaction even if he did tell his father the zombie had been strong.
At most, Malachi should have shown a doubting expression rather than a surprised one.
"The crystal heart is from a zombie, Dad," David repeated as he watched the expression of his father shift again. This time it was one of doubt, though it came late.
"Was there anything different about this zombie?" Malachi asked, with his gaze still fixated on the unique-looking crystal heart he had in his hand.
