There should still be supplies in the store, but there are too many zombies inside.
To gain access to the supplies in the store, the zombies need to be eliminated first. But is it worth the risk to attempt this?
In a way, getting rid of the zombies in the store might be riskier than breaking into a locked store. However, there are people trapped inside
As Malachi continued to use his unique ability to inspect the store ahead, he weighed his options.
Truthfully, if Malachi hadn't seen the trapped people in the store, he would have gone on his way with his son and not bothered about them.
However, seeing that people were actually trapped among that pool of zombies, the thought of leaving them, even if it was reasonable considering his concern for himself and his family, just felt too cruel.
Apart from the trapped people in the store, the store itself was quite large, so it should house a lot of supplies. If he could bring his car here to gather more provisions, they shouldn't be in the red zone for at least a few days.
So, aside from the trapped people in the store, the store itself also compelled Malachi to think carefully about his next move.
"Father," David called out to Malachi, pulling him from his thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Are we not going in?" David asked his father slowly, pondering how to choose his words carefully. "This is the first open store we've come across all night. Mom and sis are still waiting for us, so we can't afford to—"
Just as David was about to continue, Malachi interrupted him with a single sentence.
"The store is flooded with zombies," Malachi said.
Upon hearing his words, David could only let out an audible gulp and remained silent for a while.
But Malachi wasn't finished.
"Aside from the zombies, there are also seven trapped people in that store—four in the basement and three on the second floor."
David's mind conjured a grim image at the revelation, causing his stomach to twist.
Silence once again enveloped the two.
On one hand, David processed what his father had just said.
When he imagined being in the shoes of those trapped in the store, it suddenly felt like a thousand ants were crawling all over his body.
However, another realisation hit him. It seemed like his father could see through walls, but...
Is that his ability? David silently wondered before shaking his head slightly.
I don't think it is. It might just be something his power could do and not the exact power. However, doesn't this make it more unique?
The reason David didn't think his father's ability was simply to see through walls was straightforward.
During their first battle with the monster dog, there were no walls, and even if there were, he couldn't see how seeing through walls would have helped in the fight. It was the same for the battle they had with the six mutated animals earlier.
This was why David felt that his dad's power should not be as simple as seeing through walls. Perhaps he had an ability that allowed him to see things more clearly in the truest sense of things.
He had no idea how true this was.
"Dad?" David called out once more.
"Yes?"
"What are we going to do now?" David asked softly, waiting for his father's response.
Malachi's response surprised him a little.
"What do you think we can do?" Malachi asked David.
David was initially stunned by his father's question, wondering why he would ask such a thing in this situation.
After a few seconds of contemplation, David provided a response.
"We should try and see if we can help the trapped people without getting ourselves into trouble," David suggested, though his tone lacked confidence.
In truth, David also knew that there was little to gain and more risks involved if the store was indeed filled with zombies, as his father had suggested. However, the idea of leaving without taking any action, even when they were aware of the situation, troubled him.
"I don't know what's going on in the world, but judging by how everything out there seems intent on killing us on sight, if this continues, the phrase 'value your life more' will become more than just words. David, I appreciate that we share a similar perspective in this situation. Our future selves will handle what's to come," Malachi said with a smile, turning to his son, who mirrored his expression.
After expressing his thoughts, a serious expression overtook Malachi's face as he gazed at the store once more, using his unique vision.
There are too many of them inside
How can we get them all out? He pondered the question and scanned his surroundings, spotting a metal bat a few metres away from him.
Seeing the bat sparked an idea.
This is quite risky Malachi thought, yet a subtle excitement quickened his heart.
