Chapter 2 - The Apartment in District O52

Elliot's journey back home was a painful one, both physically and emotionally. As he walked along the bustling streets of the middle educational district, M34, the torn and blood-stained remnants of his clothes hung like rags on his lean frame. His skin remained untouched, a testament to his extraordinary regenerative abilities, yet the scars of humiliation and defeat ran deep.

His footsteps were heavy, his gaze fixed on the path ahead but his mind lost in thoughts of a brighter future. He muttered to himself, determined to prove his worth. "I'll rise above this. One day, I'll be at the top of the world."

Exiting the school zone, Elliot embarked on a journey through the heart of Stellara's thriving urban landscape. The buildings here stood tall and proud, adorned with shimmering glass facades that reflected the city's affluence. Luxurious boutiques and exclusive clubs lined the streets, offering the finest in entertainment, fashion, and cuisine. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the laughter of the affluent and the excitement of those who lived in the heart of the metropolis.

As he made his way towards the public transport station, the contrast between his surroundings and his own circumstances couldn't have been more striking. Elliot's torn and blood-stained clothes were a stark juxtaposition to the elegant attire of the middle district's residents. He entered the bustling station, weaving through the crowd of impeccably dressed individuals, and boarded the hovertrain that would take him on his journey home.

Exiting the middle educational district, he embarked on a lengthy journey through the outer residential districts. The buildings gradually lost their lavishness, and the architecture displayed signs of wear and tear. The atmosphere became palpably different, a subtle but undeniable shift in the quality of life as he moved farther from the central rich district.

After what felt like an eternity on the hovertrain, winding through the labyrinthine streets of Stellara, he finally arrived at District O52, where Elliot called home. It was an outer district, a world apart from the opulence of the central rich district. The surroundings were a mix of dilapidated buildings and makeshift stalls selling a variety of goods. The air here felt heavier, and the atmosphere carried a sense of weariness. Despite the challenges, the people of District O52 carried on, their resilience evident in their determination to make the most of their circumstances.

Finally, he arrived at his apartment building. It was a ten-story structure, showing signs of age and neglect. The entrance was marred with graffiti, and the corridors inside were dimly lit. He reached the basement, where his small living space awaited. It had once been the basement suite of the entire apartment, a place filled with memories of happier times. Now, it was cluttered with boxes and forgotten belongings, a stark reminder of the life he once had.

Entering his apartment, Elliot couldn't help but feel a sense of isolation. His family's wealth and influence had evaporated, and he was left with this basement and the memories it held. But deep within him burned a determination to rise above it all, to reclaim his family's legacy, and to prove himself in the entrance exam that awaited him.

Elliot's apartment, tucked away in District O52, mirrored the disarray of his life. The room was cluttered with cardboard boxes, remnants of a time when he'd first moved in. However, amid the chaos, three cleared areas stood defiantly.

The first was a small space housing a simple bed, its sheets unkempt but clean. The second area served as the "kitchen", a stove and sink standing side by side, barely more than essentials. Finally, a bathroom door remained accessible, offering a sliver of privacy amidst the jumbled surroundings.

Elliot wasted no time. He discarded his tattered clothes, flinging them carelessly into the heap of boxes, and stepped into the shower. An icy cascade of water enveloped him, his preference for cold showers a peculiar quirk that had stayed with him since childhood.

As he emerged from the frigid downpour, he examined himself in the bathroom mirror, his reflection illuminated by the soft, dim light. Elliot, at 5'9, possessed a lean, almost wiry frame. His black hair, a tangled mess, seemed to rebel against any attempts at tidiness. Dark, almost obsidian eyes peered back at him, but within their depths lay a subtle hint of scarlet, like distant embers smoldering beneath the surface.

In the quiet of his apartment, he sighed, his thoughts spilling into the still air. "I wish I had some strength, some way to fight back," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. He knew it lay dormant within him, an untapped well of power waiting to be unleashed. Yet, like a tightly locked door, it remained sealed, as if some unspoken condition needed to be fulfilled to access his full potential.

With a resigned shrug, he stepped out of the bathroom and onto his bed. Thoughts of food barely crossed his mind; hunger had become a distant sensation, a mere memory of a time when life had felt more normal. He pulled out the book he was reading in class and immersed himself in it again.

"Among the factions, the Obsidian Nexus Guild, shrouded in enigma and known for their reclusive nature, maintained a subtle yet far-reaching presence within the Central district. Their influence, though subtle, dominated District C7, the outermost Central district of Stellara. Rumors whispered that the City Lord himself had a unique relationship with this faction, and their purpose remained a mystery to most. It was a Diamond Rank Faction – yet people estimated it to be as strong as a Planetary faction.

Beside them, the Stellar Dominion a Planetary 1 Rank faction, led by the enigmatic City Lord, held dominion over the planetary capital and the entire planet of Stellaris. Their control extended beyond mere politics; they held the pulse of the planet's economy, the flow of information, and the interdimensional gateways that made Stellara a hub of trade and power. It was a faction of immense influence, overseeing not only the planet but also the vast realms beyond.

Beyond the Middle Districts, the outer reaches of the city buzzed with activity as well. The Outer Residential Districts, a vibrant blend of cultures and communities, thrived in harmonious coexistence. Beyond these bustling neighborhoods, the Market Districts hummed with ceaseless activity, offering a multitude of goods and services that fueled the city's bustling economy.

The 8 Central districts were split occupied by just these two Apex factions, with Obsidian Nexus Guild only occupying the outermost central district C7, while the center-most district C0 up to C6, belonged to the City Lord and Stellar Dominion.

Nestled amidst the grandeur, faction headquarters asserted dominion over their territories, each faction a sovereign entity within Stellara's embrace. Among these, "Aurora Vanguard" stood as an enigmatic sentinel, its history veiled in mystery, yet its influence once extended far and wide. They now controlled eight districts in the Middle Districts and two cities on planet Stellaris, along with a stronghold on another distant planet—a well-guarded secret.

The second gold-ranked faction, the Stellar Sovereigns, displayed their dominance from the heart of Middle District 12. They, too, held sway over two cities on planet Stellaris and maintained a stronghold in the uncharted lands. However, their power had grown beyond Aurora Vanguard's grasp over the years, especially after the two leaders Marcus Rouge and Emily Rouge were killed in action when their intergalactic spaceship encountered a swarm of Voidborn."

Elliot frowned reading his parent's names, "they aren't dead, some lousy Voidborn attack won't defeat them, the greedy bastards my father called friends just wanted his guild."

Elliot read on, "This loss of power and the change in leadership gave the Stellar Sovereigns the chance to surpass the Aurora Vanguard in strength, making them a force to be reckoned with.

A network of advanced transportation hubs crisscrossed the metropolis, uniting its diverse districts. Hovertrains whisked commuters to distant corners in a symphony of motion, while teleportation stations provided swift access to pivotal locations.

The Middle Districts spanned a diverse range of territories, each with its unique character and factions vying for influence. Here, the Aegis Brotherhood held sway as a silver-ranked faction, known for their unwavering commitment to justice and protection. Operating out of their headquarters in Middle District 22, they were responsible for the safety of two cities on Stellaris and maintained strongholds in the uncharted lands.

Alongside them, the Echelon Syndicate, another silver-ranked faction, controlled Middle District 17 and its surroundings. Over the years, they had evolved and now presided over two cities under their control, with rumors suggesting they even possessed a spaceship, expanding their reach beyond the planet's boundaries.

Amidst the Middle Districts, two other factions staked their claims. The Emberbound Raiders and the Stormbrand Marauders displayed their distinct power and influence in their respective territories. The Emberbound Raiders, a formidable bronze-ranked faction, sought riches and chaos in their dominion of nine districts. In contrast, the Stormbrand Marauders, a silver-ranked faction, showcased their relentless might in the four districts under their command.

In the realm of the Outer Residential Districts, life flourished in a dynamic mosaic of cultures and communities. From O1 to O68, each district bore its unique character and stories of its inhabitants. Families, workers, and individuals coexisted in this vibrant tapestry, sharing dreams and aspirations within their diverse neighborhoods.

Within the midst of this bustling life, several factions staked their claims over their respective territories. Among them, the Iron Fist Guild, a tenacious bronze-ranked faction, held sway over six districts in the O20-O50 range. They had carved out a reputation for their resilience and resourcefulness in the face of challenges.

The Shadowrunners, another bronze-ranked faction, presided over five districts in the same range. Known for their agility and adaptability, they operated within the intricate alleys and bustling streets, thriving on secrecy and resourcefulness.

The Stoneheart Coalition, a silver-ranked faction, maintained their influence over eight districts, displaying both strength and wisdom in their dominion. Their presence in the Outer Residential Districts marked them as a weaker silver-ranked faction but still a formidable faction to reckon with.

Rustclad Outlaws, ranked at seven, controlled seven districts, showcasing a unique blend of defiance and cunning. Their nomadic roots and unorthodox tactics set them apart from other factions in the outer regions.

Beyond these districts, there were more stories, more struggles, and more power struggles waiting to unfold. Stellara, with its diversity and contrasts, stood as a testament to the ambition and tenacity of its inhabitants, a celestial tapestry of wealth and power woven into the fabric of the cosmos."

This was all Elliot could read, as he felt himself falling into a tired slumber. Elliot's drowsy reverie was shattered by a sudden knock at the door. He sat up in bed, looking down at his disheveled robe-clad self. With a sigh, he pushed himself to his feet, the worn-out floorboards creaking beneath him. He approached the door, his steps marked by a heavy sense of apathy.
