Chapter 26 - Cassidy's new boyfriend.

"What are you doing?" Before Miley could react, and just when Helena was about to kneel on the ground, a cheerless voice came through. While Miley froze, Helena was smiling when nobody could see her. After that, the two of them turned around to cast their glances in the direction of the voice, only to see Dexter marching toward them with a grim look on his face while holding onto his phone. With the silent cafeteria as a backdrop, the ceiling lights that shone on him seemed to make him glow. However, it didn't soften his gaze as he stared at Miley with a steely look.

"Dexter, I'm alright. I made Miley angry--" Helena began explaining herself in a flurry of panic. When she turned to look at Myra, she inadvertently showed him the angry slap mark on her left cheek. Then, as if realizing what she had done, she tried to turn away to hide that mark but Dexter held her head in place pinching in her chin.

"Apologize!" His gaze was chilly and aloof when he glared at Miley.

Miley was speechless for a moment and didn't know how to reply.

"What have I done?" Miley asked him with a serious face.

"Miley, she is a patient," Dexter muttered under his breath.

All of a sudden, Miley burst into a fit of laughter. Her laugh didn't last long as her eyes darkened and looked at Helena indifferently "Helena, I am sorry. I lost my control." While speaking, Miley reached over and placed her hand on his shoulder, then continued, "Darling, Sorry! I have to go. Cassidy is waiting for me."

Miley ignored his observant eyes and pulled away from him.

Helena's eyes were burning with rage when she saw Miley flirting with Dexter. She never expected that Mileg would handle the situation and apologise to her instantly.

------

After arriving, Miley and Cassidy waited for about half an hour before Cassidy's new boyfriend, Tony arrived.

Miley checked him out from top to toe. He was tall, slim, and wore a pair of glasses. He seemed scholarly and gentle.

"Tony, why did you take so long to come here? We waited for quite some time."

The moment the man appeared, Cassidy went forward and held his arm affectionately. Her normally straightforward and boisterous character disappeared; she became a sweet and demure girl.

Miley could not help but smile when she saw the way Cassidy changed.

With a face filled with remorse, Tony glanced at Miley and explained, "The traffic was rather heavy. I'm sorry."

"No worries. We are not in a hurry."

During the meal, Miley saw Tony constantly stealthily checking his mobile phone, and he seemed a little anxious, which was strange.

"Mr Hart, you have been constantly looking at your phone. You look preoccupied. Is there something wrong?"

Although the man looked very scholarly and quiet, there was something weird about him that Miley could not pinpoint.

The expression on Tony's face became a little flustered, and he quickly put the phone in his pocket.

"No… It's nothing." He said.

"Tony, we haven't met for a few days. Now that we are together, don't you want to pay more attention to me?"

Cassidy looked at her boyfriend, pouting with displeasure and gently reproving him. Through some miracle, she did not catch the guilty look on his face.

Halfway through dinner, the man made the excuse that he needed to visit the bathroom and took his phone with him, heading in that direction.

While walking in the direction of the bathroom, he seemed hurried and had a flustered expression on his face which further aroused Miley's suspicions. John is not as honest as he looks on the surface.

Cassidy concentrated on eating, not noticing at all Tony's weird behaviour.

"Cassidy, How well do you know him?"

Miley gazed at her friend, who was eating nonstop, and asked her quietly.

"He is my senior. He asked me out before that accident. He waited for me all this time until I gave him an answer yesterday."

-----

It was past eight o'clock in the evening when Miley drove back from Cassidy's apartment.

As soon as her car arrived at the entrance of the underground garage, the security guard opened the gate and said to her, "Ms Lombard, a man is waiting for you in the lobby."

Miley's first thought was that Tristan had forgotten to bring an elevator card.

When Miley parked her car and took the elevator to the lobby on the first floor, she found that it was not Tristan who was waiting for her.

Dexter sat in the lounge, idly flipping a magazine.

He looked up slightly and saw Miley coming out of the elevator. After putting down the magazine, he got up and draped the coat he left on the couch over his arm.

Miley took two steps forward before stopping and looking at him. "Mr. Lombard, Why are you here?"

"This is my home. Why can't I be here?" Dexter was unhappy with her expression.
