It was already evening. Drake was back in his room, lying on his bed.
He still could not believe what he just experienced. After hours of training, he could barely run at max speed for around 5 minutes without falling. He was delighted with the progress until he saw that.
Just 2 hours earlier, Kane got control of the body and, unlike him, the moment Kane started running, it became something else. He saw how Kane slid on the green roots, used the tree trunk as a jumping pad, used branches to swing, and did different kinds of rolls on the ground.
Unlike him, who just focused on running fast, Kane smacked the rigidity out of his mind. Kane's running felt more like playing with obstacles. He even jumped back and rolled to the side, using every resource around the forest, and even with all that, he was much faster than him.
The most shocking thing was Kane fell only two times and in both times it was due to some weak branch breaking. Kane really opened his eyes to the track running.
He was still excited as the scene of different jumps went through his mind. Now that he thought about the track, multiple ways to cross that track came through his mind. He was not focusing on the gap now, but more on the obstacle itself.
Kane's cocky voice came at him, [hehe are you still thinking about me?]
He nodded,
[Not gonna lie, it was impressive, haha. This world is amazing.]
His eyes widened.
[There is a big difference. It's fatigue and recovery. I found the rate at which the body recovered after the spirit egg process was much faster and even the endurance limit has increased.]
[Ah, I only notice it because of my habit, nothing much.]
Kane took a pause and said, [well it took me a couple of years. If you are willing to spend that much time, then sure.]
He focused on the most important topic and asked,
[I don't know man. The thing is, tomorrow morning she is going to encounter you on the stairs. We will have a few minutes from the stairs to the classroom. Once in the class, she will start crying and that will be game over.]
[It is possible.]
[Well, we need to deal with both key tasks.]
[The first key is her finding her motivation.]
[Nah, just think for a moment. Your stepmother does all that after the mandatory test. Why? I mean she already knew about your terrible potential, so why wait for that long.]
It hit him. Yeah, after the result of the first family meeting, it makes no sense for her to target him more. He quit lazing and sat up on the bed with both hands under his chin.
He realized the blunder in his thoughts and asked,
[Yup]
He grabbed his head. He was stupid all this time to think she was targeting him. Nope, he was just used as a sacrificial pawn. The actual target was his mother's reputation.
That explained Blake's reaction. Many things started to become clear to him, but with that, lots of confusion also emerged. He grabbed his head.
Kane said [Stopped thinking about other things, just focus on my question. Why do you think she did all that after the mandatory test? Why not before?]
< It's clear she is searching for the maid candidate for her drama. But if I was not her target, then why did she choose a maid with a sister? It can't be a coincidence.>
[Ah wait it's not a coincidence but before that why do you think you are not the target?]
Kane said in a deep voice, [Idiot, why think like this? Can't she target both of you and your mother at others at the same time? Stop this bullshit about who she is targeting, what she targeting, and bla bla… fck it. Focus on what she did that affected you, nothing else.]
He froze, closing his eyes. He took some deep breaths. It hit him how much of an idiot he was trying to search for self-worth in other actions. He was getting sad about the fact the other party exploited him to target others.
He did not have the luxury of getting distracted by all that nonsense. Shaking his head, he removed all the distractions from his mind and started thinking about what Kane said about the key.
Kane observed Drake's reaction, and he was happy with Drake's reaction. The 3 days of freedom were really full of ups and downs and it was normal to get multiple emotions, good and bad.
But the only way to survive was not to let those emotions affect you. He had seen many who lost to these emotions and most of them ended up dying.
Unknown to Drake, Kane's respect for him grew more.
After thinking for a minute or two, Drake said in amazement,
[Oh, you get the reason.]
[Tell me details. I need to know both of us are on the same page.]
[Go on.]
