Chapter 27 - The changes outside

It had been a few minutes since every child closed their eyes to initiate the spirit egg formation. Sir Minza and a few other staff members were present on the other side of the chamber, observing the children.

At this moment, a bright light shone, and five individuals in black robes appeared at the back of the room. They walked closer to the transparent window, stopping just behind Sir Minza, and bowed slightly.

Sir Minza gave a casual nod and asked, "Did all of you get the class list?"

The first from the left instructor said, "Yes, sir."

Sir Minza said nothing, and all of them began observing the kids in the chambers.

The scene in the chamber changed somewhat from before. Many of the kids had already moved their soul consciousness into their soul space. Each of these kids started glowing in different shades of color.

Those with fire element affinity were glowing with red, water with deep blue, air with sky blue, earth with yellow, light with white, and dark with black. But the number of those with only a single basic mana affinity was very low.

Those with multiple mana affinities were glowing in shades that would come out by combining a few of these colors. Like those with fire and earth were glowing in shades of orange, and those with fire and water in shades of purple. The exact shade of the glow depended on the potential of the mana affinity.

Like in the orange case, the shade of orange depended on which mana affinity was higher. Dark orange, if higher fire affinity, and light orange in case of higher earth affinity.

Anyone with the advanced elements was glowing in random colors, like those with plant affinity glowing in green, golden for lighting, grey for space, and many more. The whole chamber was full of different glowing kids.

A layer of transparent mana film also formed around these kids. This showed the spirit egg formation was in progress. But spirit egg formation was not the only change they were undergoing; their bodies were evolving slightly, trying to adjust to the use of mana.

As the mana density rose in the chamber, so did the intensity of the glow surrounding the kids and the mana film around them. Some were glowing brighter than others.

All the staff and instructors noted these changes in the mana chamber. Five minutes passed, and one of the staff said to Sir Minza, "Sir, the mana chamber is at full power."

Sir Minza asked, "How much mana is being consumed?"

The staff looked at the round device in his hand, "Sir, it's at about 85% as of now."

The instructors widened their eyes upon hearing that. One instructor even said, "It looks like we have a good batch this time."

Sir Minza nodded and instructed the staff, "Wait until half of the kids have formed their spirit eggs, then decrease the power based on the consumption."

The staff went back to monitoring the device. He glanced at the kids and noticed that only half of them were glowing, while the other half were still struggling. He knew that once more kids began their spirit egg formation, the mana consumption would easily reach 100%.

Five more minutes passed, and all the kids were glowing in the mana chamber. The mana layer around a few of them became an inch thicker.

A flash of yellow light occurred on the right side of the mana chamber. All the instructors looked and saw the mana layer around one kid slowly being absorbed into the child's body, signifying a successful spirit egg formation.

The dwarf child slowly opened his eyes with a smile on his face, walked to the teleportation circle, and left the mana chamber.

Like a domino effect, various flashes started happening inside the mana chamber, and one after another, all the kids began exiting the chamber.

Ten more minutes passed, and the last 10 to 20 kids remained inside the mana chamber. All of them still had a very thin mana layer around them, as well as a very dull glow.

Drake was also among these last groups of children. All of these kids had painful expressions on their faces.

The staff and instructors maintained their expressions. Each year, there were always a few kids who had trouble evolving their bodies. Various factors could be the reason here, but as long as the kid had a stable mana layer, it was not a problem.

With no distortion in their mana layers, the kids continued to go through the process. Some minutes passed, and ten more kids formed their spirit eggs.

One instructor pointed to the remaining kids. "Sir, I don't see any progress in these kids."

The second one on the side said, "Sir, I think we should increase the mana density a little. With only 10 kids in the chamber, the mana pressure will give them a sufficient boost."

Sir Minza nodded. This situation happened many times, and most of the time, the additional pressure from the mana would give sufficient pressure to force their bodies to evolve.

Sir Minza looked at the staff and asked, "What's the current power?"

"Sir, the chamber is running at 50% power, and mana consumption is at 5%."

"Increase the power by 2% every minute."

The staff nodded and made the adjustments to the device in his hand.

As the power increased, the mana layer around a few kids compressed briefly, but then it expanded beyond its previous thickness. The little pressure broke the blockage and in just the next 2 minutes, seven more kids walked out of the chamber.

Only the last three remained in the chamber, with Drake being one of them. Time continued to pass, while the pressure of mana continued to increase.

Soon the mana layer around the kids started distorting. Shiny marks began to appear on the bodies of the three kids. The other two kids had a few circular marks that had an extremely dull shine compared to the original glow of their bodies.

But on Drake's body, a few straight lines appeared. Each of these lines was shining in a deep red color. The brightness of these red lines was far much stronger than the dull dark glow on his body and with each passing second the number of lines was increasing on his body.

Sir Minza clenched his fist seeing that and said in a low voice, "Element poisoning."
