Chapter 3 - The Domain

Crim found himself in a simpler world, free from the overwhelming technology that had taken over his reality.

It resembled a medieval setting, with charming buildings encircling a majestic castle. The town was alive with joy as it celebrated a grand ceremony.

The walls of the castle, crafted from sturdy rocks, were adorned with colorful paper lanterns and fortunes, reminiscent of scenes from a movie.

It was a vibrant world, a stark contrast to the cold, blinding holographic city Crim had known.  As Crim relaxed, the quaint town drew nearer.

Then, in a sudden twist, he awoke in the body of another person, facing a man seated on a throne accessible only by a flight of stairs. It was a term he had read in a book long ago—an age-old title: king.

"My knight," the king proclaimed, holding a note handed to him by a servant. "Raise your sword, recite your oath, and I shall appoint you as commander."

Crim hesitated for a brief moment, his gaze shifting toward the king's throne. But a floating red panel blocked his view, leaving him in suspense.

"Another Illusion?' Crim pondered.

The boy rose to his feet, and the panel tracked his gaze.

Ignoring the king's presence, he attempted to cast a spell, but all that emerged from his palms was a mere spark, leaving the boy bewildered.

He tried once again, but still, he couldn't sense any mana, nor could he pinpoint the location of his core.

The king's hand thundered onto his gilded throne, leaving it visibly trembling.

"My Knight, Raise your weapon" he uttered in a commanding tone, quite unlike the casual tone Crim was accustomed to.

Each Phrase carried authority.

One final attempt, the boy phased. Despite his desperation, not even a spark sputtered from the young man's hand.

His magical prowess had been stifled, and the boy scarcely contained his malevolent glare meant for the man who trapped him.

Defeated,  He hoisted the sword made of pure metal out of his laced leather belt. The king awaited the tense response of the knight.

'What oath!?' Crim pondered, his mind bolstered round for a response. 'This damn illusion.'

As he meticulously scanned the words on the hovering panel, the phrases "Soon" and "Shrine" seized his ever-wavering focus.

Crim's determination surged, he knew how to accomplish his goal. "My King I want a new oath."

He rehabilitated the behaviors and tone of the king.

The king's eye flickered with a mix of malice and fascination.

Yet, after enduring the chilling presence just moments ago, Crim remained poised and unflinching.

The King and the Knights fluttering eyes locked between each other. Crim focused on the king's forehead, while the king locked on the Knights's lips, awaiting an unwavering argument.

"A lower class that requested a change of oath was impossible. Was this why he rose to the rank of captain?" The servants and guards chattered, froating out rumors like a factory.

Crim had a different plan in mind, but the king's sealed grin suggested otherwise. A lower-ranked knight would have faced certain death, but Crim firmly believed that holding the title of captain guaranteed his survival.

The driblet of the chatter he heard confirmed his theory.

"I should dispel this weird spell fast," Crim grimaced his stomach growling with hunger, 'I still haven't eaten.""
