Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Beneath the Cliff

The situation had spiraled completely out of control.

Chen Yin had fallen off the cliff, followed by Shen Shuanglian, their fates unknown.

Yu Xiang, stunned for a moment, opened her mouth but couldn't make a sound. Then, as if losing her mind, she dashed madly down the mountain.

From the crowd, Luo Qiaoqiao's urgent voice rang out:

"Quick! All Tianluo Sect disciples, start searching immediately!"

"Mo Jie, you old dog! If anything happens to Chen Yin, your Misty Spirit Sect can prepare to bury you alongside him!"

Meanwhile, amidst the chaos, a pair of fox ears slowly appeared in the void, only to droop and disappear again moments later.

—Just before Chen Yin had unleashed his sword strike, Luo Luo had received a command through their master-servant contract.

"Hide yourself and take care until I return."

Though she had witnessed Chen Yin's strength before, the fact that he had fallen into the infamous Tiantu Abyss—a place feared across the cultivation world—still left her deeply worried.

Master will be fine, right? The little fox tilted her head upward in the void, silently praying.

Elsewhere, Mo Jie, who had remained hovering in midair since his clash with Chen Yin, stood motionless.

His expression shifted multiple times, his hands clasped firmly behind his back.

"Elder Mo Jie, about this matter..." a fellow elder cautiously inquired beside him.

Mo Jie merely snorted coldly and replied indifferently, "That boy overestimated himself, thinking he could withstand my strike. Falling off the cliff, he's undoubtedly been smashed to pieces."

"As for our chief disciple, I'll report back to the sect leader immediately and request a team to search for her."

Someone else chimed in, "And what about that Yin girl...?"

"She's likely gone into the Tiantu Abyss to chase after her little lover. When we search for the Frost Moon Sword Immortal, we'll eliminate her along the way."

Seeing Elder Mo Jie's dark expression, no one dared to provoke him further. After a few brief exchanges, they dispersed.

Mo Jie also departed on his sword, flying to a secluded spot.

The moment he landed in solitude, his expression crumbled. He opened his mouth and spat out a mouthful of blood.

A figure appeared behind him, placing a hand on his back to help stabilize the chaotic spiritual energy in his body.

Mo Jie's eyes were filled with fury and disbelief.

—Within his dantian, fragments floated chaotically.

They were the shattered remains of his Dao foundation.

Chen Yin's single sword strike had completely destroyed it.

"That boy..." Mo Jie gritted his teeth, seething.

"Don't move," the middle-aged man healing him said softly. "Your Dao foundation is shattered. If you don't return to the sect immediately to use vast resources for recovery, it's not just your cultivation—you would lose your life."

Mo Jie knew this all too well. Gritting his teeth, he nodded grimly. "Thank you, Junior Brother."

"No need for thanks. Having you take action was a decision made by the sect, so this injury is on behalf of the sect as well," the healer replied. "But about that Chen Yin... that sword strike—did you feel something unusual?"

"Absolutely." Mo Jie's eyes gleamed with a strange light.

"It was... Dao resonance."

The other elder furrowed his brows, utterly perplexed.

"But that's impossible! Senior Brother, even after years at the Upper Clarity level, you've barely managed to sense the presence of Dao resonance. That boy is clearly only at the Cloud Realm—far from the Great Purity realm. How could he wield a sword technique imbued with Dao resonance?"

"Could it be... something given to him by Yu Ling as a protective treasure?"

Mo Jie remained silent.

He didn't know. Nor did he have the energy to care.

Right now, his mind focused on two things:

Returning to the sect for seclusion and recovery.

And after he healed—

Killing those two brats.

The Tiantu Abyss was the name for the central region of the Tian Tu mountain range.

Located at the heart of the continent, it boasted spiritual energy far denser than any other sacred mountains or blessed lands, making it an ideal place for cultivation.

But no cultivators dared to train there.

Its dangers were legendary, enough to strike fear even into Great Purity Realm cultivators.

Some said that the abyss was home to ancient primordial beasts, each possessing strength rivaling the Great Purity Realm.

Others claimed that the abyss was filled with poisonous miasmas and deadly swamps, potent enough to kill even the most powerful immortals upon contact.

Some say that the Tiantu Abyss is connected to higher planes of existence—what the legends call the Immortal Realm.

But what it truly contains remains unknown, as even Great Purity Realm cultivators rarely venture into its depths.

Beside a crystal-clear waterfall, a frail figure was struggling to drag a heavy man forward, step by step.

The figure was dressed in a once-elegant blue palace gown, now filthy and tattered, with tears exposing patches of her skin. Even her pristine face was smudged with dirt.

She was clearly injured, unable to use her spiritual energy, and could only drag the man like an ordinary mortal.

Her progress was slow and labored, with strands of her hair plastered to her pale neck and beads of sweat dotting her forehead.

Yet, her gaze was resolute, filled with unwavering determination.

Finally, by the waterfall, Shen Shuanglian found a natural cave. With great effort, she dragged Chen Yin into it and placed her trembling hand on his chest.

"…System, redeem a Life-Restoring Pill," she said. Her lips were pale, but her voice was calm.

Moments later, the system's aged voice echoed in her mind:

[Are you certain? The Life-Restoring Pill is very costly. You've worked hard to save up enough points, but they'll only afford a single pill.]

[If you use it on him, you'll have no protection if you encounter danger in the future.]

"It doesn't matter," Shen Shuanglian replied without hesitation. "Whether I live or die is irrelevant."

"I… I just can't bear to lose him."

The system fell silent for a long time before finally sighing.

[Ah, youth... so naive and impulsive.]

[Very well, as you wish.]

The next moment, a pill radiating an ethereal fragrance materialized in mid-air.

Shen Shuanglian picked up the pill and attempted to place it in Chen Yin's mouth, but it wouldn't go down.

So, gritting her teeth, she put the pill in her own mouth, chewed it, and then leaned down to press her lips against his.

A faint, mystical aroma wafted from Chen Yin as the medicinal power was transferred into his body. Shen Shuanglian only moved away when she was certain the pill had fully taken effect. She sat up slowly, her lips tinged with regret as if reluctant to part.

Feeling his body gradually warming and his breath growing steadier, she finally allowed herself to relax a little.

But as soon as she did, an overwhelming wave of fatigue crashed over her.

Her eyelids drooped, nearly closing, but she shook her head vigorously and curled up beside Chen Yin, hugging her knees.

At last, the system couldn't bear to watch anymore and spoke softly, [If you're truly exhausted, just rest for a while. I'll alert you if anything happens.]

But Shen Shuanglian shook her head, resting her chin on her arms as she turned slightly to watch him.

"…It's fine. I'm not tired," she murmured.

"It's a rare opportunity to just look at him like this."

In her eyes was a flicker of deep affection, carefully concealed.

Chen Yin regained consciousness about half an hour later.

He opened his eyes, blinking. Shen Shuanglian was leaning against his knee, her soft breathing punctuated by faint, endearing murmurs in her sleep.

Lying still, Chen Yin stared at the ceiling above him.

—He was questioning everything.

According to Chen Yin's original plan, this was how it was supposed to go:

Take Mo Jie's attack head-on without resisting, making it seem like he barely survived, fitting the persona of a lowly cultivator in the Cloud Realm.

As for the injuries? Those didn't matter. The most overpowered feature of the Record of the Forgetful Blossoming Heart was its recovery ability. As long as he had a single breath left, no matter how severe the injury, he would heal completely in time.

So, he had used his sword aura to protect his heart and ensured that Mo Jie's Upper Clarity Realm strike wouldn't kill him outright, then willingly fell off the cliff.

That counterattack against Mo Jie wasn't meant to kill him but was enough to incapacitate him temporarily, ensuring he couldn't interfere further.

The plan was simple: fall off the cliff, prompting Xiang'er to worry about him. She would inevitably find a way to escape amidst the chaos and search for him.

Once he reunited with Xiang'er ahead of the others, things would proceed smoothly.

But no matter how carefully he had calculated, Chen Yin had never considered one possibility in his wildest dreams—

Senior Sister Shen Shuanglian would jump down after him.

—What was she thinking?

The original plan was perfect—falling off the cliff would grant him complete freedom to act without constraints.

Now, with his senior sister by his side, he was forced to maintain the act of being gravely injured.

Thus, he lay still, feigning critical condition, letting the Record of the Forgetful Blossoming Heart heal him.

During his hazy recovery, he vaguely heard Shen Shuanglian murmuring to herself. She seemed to have fed him some sort of medicinal pill, though he couldn't quite recall how.

Whatever it was, the effects were clear: his injuries had not only healed but left his dantian and spiritual reserves stronger than ever.

Even so, he dared not wake up too soon, lest Shen Shuanglian grow suspicious.

Now, his senior sister lay quietly against his knee, her delicate nose twitching slightly. The sight was enough to stir a mischievous urge to pinch her.

Chen Yin watched her for a while before averting his gaze.

—Why on earth would she follow him down here?

Even if she were the kind-hearted, justice-driven type, risking her own life like this was absurd.

No matter how hard he thought, Chen Yin couldn't find an answer—until a bold idea crept into his mind.

Could it be… the wild boast he had once made to his master had come true?

Had Senior Sister Shen really fallen for him at first sight, to the point of risking her life?

…No way, right?
