Ariel was actually super sensitive. She could sense even the tiniest bit of attention that Damon gave me.
I pretended that I didn't hear anything and just closed my eyes so I could relax.
Since I ignored her and she got no response from Damon, Ariel couldn't vent her anger. She just withdrew her gaze in frustration and deliberately flopped down heavily, making a loud noise
This childish tantrum obviously didn't catch Damon's attention. The car was silent all the way, no one uttered a word.
By the time we got back to the city, it was late at night. Damon dropped me off at the Starlight first, then took Ariel home.
"Ms. Brooks, you're back!" Hannah was waiting for us. She rushed over to help me. "Did you get hurt anywhere? Is it bad?"
I chuckled. "I'm good, I just have a scratch on my back. Don't worry about it. Your parents should be here soon. Go arrange a room for them to rest, okay?"
