'A stupid girl…'
The two overlapping voices rang loudly inside Vita's head, and she could only groan silently as she tried to recognize them.
One of the voices was Mors', she was able to somehow recognize it, but the other voice seemed to be something she wished to not remember.
Her head ached the more she thought about it, so she opted to empty her mind of everything and closed her eyes tightly.
'Don't think, don't think, don't try to remember…'
Gradually, the headache had calmed down, but Vita was already asleep when Lu had finished cleaning up the dishes.
"Tch. I should've finished sooner."
Lu sighed and laid down next to her and stared at the ceiling, 'But then again, it's better for her to rest.'
Falling into a coma for a whole month was not something Lu had expected to happen to Vita.
'The shock must have been so strong on her.'
He carefully hugged Vita and patted her head in her sleep. After a few minutes, the door was opened, announcing Meria's arrival.
"Lu… How is Vita?"
Meria asked after sensing their auras. She then took off her cloak and sat down, waiting for the answer.
"She is okay, Auntie. Exhausted, but nothing unexpected. The bastard dragged her to use her power once she opened her eyes."
Meria could not help but scoff at that, "Heh! So much for a father, if I may say."
"Why bother sweetening it? We both know the truth."
Both Lu and Meria sighed and decided to stop speaking about that, instead, Meria changed the topic.
"The Chief did not hesitate to share the new rumors, how the Tree of Life had been 'testing' us or something."
After Vita helped the village to recover, the Chief did not hesitate to announce that everything that had been happening was a test by the Almighty Tree of Life.
"He had declared it so shamelessly, 'The Tree of Life had tested us and we have been proven to be worthy!'."
Meria laughed dryly, remembering how the Elves cheered and laughed happily. They were filled with a glazing determination, thinking they were favored again.
'Disgusting.'
Meria could only think about that. For her, they were pathetic, disgusting, and absolutely delusional.
People outside were ready to fight, and here they were, rejoicing about something that was never true from the start.
Lu noticed Meria's emotional flare and stood up, "I'll go out, I think it's better that I see it by myself. Speaking of which, how are the others?"
Meria nodded and answered Lu who was changing his clothes, "Our alliance still stands. Everyone is ready, although Vita's deeds today have shaken them a bit."
She then tucked Vita under the blankets and used her Element to soothe the child to sleep more deeply.
"Go now, I'll look after her."
Nodding, Lu activated his Wind Element and launched himself to the sky before coating himself with a wind barrier that made others unable to see him.
He dived through the air and saw some of the quiet village's atmosphere as it was nighttime, however, he knew better than to believe that.
The dark sky could always pull the curtain off the insidious secrets that have been kept for so long. It was also the reason why children were forced to stay at home at night.
Lu floated there, waiting to hear or see something. His wait proved to be fruitful, as he soon was met with few Elves moving towards the center of the village.
"Underground Party…?"
Lu murmured but shook his head soon, there was no way that he would not know about this. For one reason, those gatherings always needed to be neatly prepared.
What would happen if someone had discovered the creepy acts of the so-called Chosen Ones?
Lu stopped thinking, and followed silently. He kept a good distance, enough for him to hear, and enough so he would not be discovered.
The Elves he was following now were three, one female and two males, from their appearance, one should be her sibling, and the other may be a friend.
They were not from the high ranking Elves as Lu could not remember them.
The assumed brother started a conversation to break the silence between them.
"The Tree of Life had finally acted, but isn't that weird?"
He looked at the assumed sister, but the one who had answered him was the assumed friend, his tone made it seem as if he was sighing.
"Yeah, I am glad I'm not the only one to notice."
"Yes, today-"
Just as the brother was about to continue, the sister frowned and stepped on his feet.
"Enough. We shall not bring harm to ourselves by being nosy."
"Oww… Just a curiosity…"
The brother whimpered and acted like a kicked puppy, making the friend grimace and turn his head away from him.
"Your sister is right, let's drop the topic."
"But… It's kinda weird, no? The Chief was today at the Tree of Life's location and suddenly all is good? Like come on, what did he do? Pray? We all know that should be nothing but bullc- ACK!"
The Elf was running his mouth casually while massaging his foot, only for his sister to elbow his stomach hard enough that he fell to the side in a coughing fit.
"Stop doing this stupid crap. You think no one is watching us?! How much am I going to teach you too?!"
Lu winced at the brother who was about to be kicked once more before using his Wind Element to catch the movements of any other person.
'I caught around 8 or 9 people until now.'
And it seemed the number was increasing.
Lu felt that something very fishy was happening, but he could only secretly observe. No matter what he does anyway, he would not be able to change anything yet.
'So, lay low, play dead. And let the show go on.'
He gathered enough information from those idiots who kept talking left and right, now, the next step was to join them in their charade.
"Let's see how long this can go on."
