[Stele of Sources has completed its fusion with the Cosmic Source of Wisdom.] The screen of light infront of him had no voice or smell, but at first glance, he understood what it said, even though he had never seen such weird texts ever before in his life.
[Current Celestial Sources: Devour, Wisdom]
[Self Analysis]
[3rd Class Martial Trainee: Can sense and use minor strengthening effects of Innate Qi on the body.]
[Innate Qi: 16 years.]
[Martial Arts: None.]
'What is this?' Ren muttered and touched the screen but his hands phased through it.
[This is just the reflection of the stele and the host cannot interact with it physically.] The words changed.
'Physically? That means I can mentally?' Ren thought involuntarily.
[Yes, you can interact with the Stele mentally, since after absorbing the Source of Wisdom, it had gained basic sentience.]
Ren looked at the weird screen infront of him and gulped audibly.
What was going on now?
"What the hell are you?" he asked incredulously.
The [transmission] was an absolutely high-class martial arts method, right? Who was doing it? And why would they bother with him instead of someone like his master?
[I am not a human but a Spirit, born out of a tool inside your soul due to some unknown reasons. And I am not using transmission but speaking to you with the connection you have to this tool, The Stele.]
"Are you the reason I was revived into this young body?" he asked out loud, again hearing the childish voice of the new himself. Causing him to involuntarily take in a deep breath.
[No, the reason the host was revived into this body is not due to any interference of the Stele since it has no such powers. But rather, due to the locket that the host owned in your previous life.]
'…That locket? Can it revive others?!' he asked the most important thing to him.
[The locket vanished after a bright light just after you died, leaving behind an ownerless 'Source of Wisdom' that the Stele absorbed, and then, both you and the stele fell into darkness and your soul woke up into this world in an infant body 16 years ago. But the previous life's memories couldn't be awakened until now, but a traumatic event jolted your mind awake and released all the past life memories. But that in turn sealed your new life's memories.]
"Wh… Does that mean I didn't possess another person?" Ren's face grew contemplative at all the uncoherent information that seemed not to make any sense at all and all the sense in the world.
[Yes, the host's soul and mind had always been the owner of this body.]
'So I had something called a Stele in my soul even before I was reborn? And I would have died without ever knowing this if the Locket didn't make me revive,' he thought.
The screen also said it gained basic sentience after absorbing something called a 'Source of Wisdom' that the locket left behind after being used.
"Can I get the memories back?" he asked as he clenched his hands. That would make things much easier.
[You can use one of the two powers of the Stele, (Analyze), and get your memories back.]
"Do it!" Wu Ren's heart started to beat crazily.
The fact that the locket that reincarnated him was lost was a despairing thought, but it was at the same time, equally encouraging to him.
That meant he had indeed been revived and such a thing was not impossible.
If his family died, he just had to revive them somehow.
[Can't (analyze) the information. Needs 10 Neutral Energy to do it.]
"Neutral Energy?"
[Host has only 3 units of Neutral Energy]
"Where did I get that from and where is it?!" He didn't sense any other foreign energy in his innate qi.
[It was absorbed using the second power of the Stele, Devour, from the dead body of the previous weird wolf and is stored inside your soul which you are unable to sense.] The system said noiselessly, calm and indifferent.
'I need 7 more units to get the memories?' Ren scratched his jaws and frowned. 'So I need to be near 3 more dying wolves or kill them? But are there even any left?'
He stood up without any further hesitation. He had to understand what was going on as quickly as possible and find a way back home. The memories would be his foundation to build up on it.
Taking a final glance at the empty barricade in the distance, he could guess the chances of the wolves still remaining alive were borderline impossible. If not, the soldiers wouldn't have left.
He then slid down the ladder and briefly looked around the trashy alleyway filled with puddles and steamy windows. He could even hear the noise of some mice and fleas with his slightly enhanced senses after the earlier breakthrough.
Walking out of the alley, he finally looked around the world when there was light.
It was a huge city the likes of which he had only heard of in stories, filled with buildings standing as high as the nine legendary pagodas of the Martial Star. But here, it was everywhere.
A strong wind suddenly blasted against his tattered t-shirt and he held his hand infront of him. He walked near the barricade and hesitated at the fact that no one else was around. But after a bit of thought, he decided to take the dangerous route.
Walking past the flowing yellow tapes, he moved towards the previous alley where he was when he just woke up. There might be some clues there about himself.
'If one wolf gave me 3 points, I just have to kill 3 more wolves. But they were quite strong. I wonder if my 3rd Class level of skills are enough to beat them.'
They were quite strong, but not too much since even the weaker version of himself stood a chance to escape with wounds if he used the terrain well.
But he couldn't clearly tell how much strength was dormant inside a body like those wolves without actually fighting one.
