A few days had passed since the dinner with Carter's family and the two were quick to put Lisa's advice to use, Daniel asked Lisa who would be the pediatric doctor to go to with Andrea, and with her recommendation Daniel had started working on arranging appointments with her to make sure Andrea was doing well.
Both he and Carter spent the days caring for Andrea and going through the documents Abigail had sent with her, and the two were getting quite good at the whole parenting thing, so much so that Carter decided to take the opportunity to go out with Angela when Daniel told him he had to go fix his relationship and talk with Angela about Andrea - Daniel didn't want to be the reason they broke up, he knew that much.
So Carter had arranged a meal with Angela and knowing she was prone to yelling he made sure to book a private room in the restaurant just to be sure they wouldn't bother other people.
So as the time came around for him to pick up Angela, he quickly gave Andrea a small peck on the cheek, and with an encouraging hug from Daniel, he finally left the house.
As he drove over to Angela's apartment he nervously tapped the steering wheel at each stop and traffic light, it could go well but it could also end up going horribly - he wasn't sure what to expect all he could hope for was it would end well and they would be fine again.
Once he parked at the apartment building he got out of his car and headed towards the building and found Angela waiting in the lobby. He walked over to her and the moment she spotted him she ran over to him with a big smile and hugged him.
"Hello my love," She said in a cheery voice, Carter was a little taken aback at the sudden personality change once again but he decided to just ignore it and go with it, his goal today was to talk to Angela, get her to understand he was helping Daniel with Andrea and that he didn't feel anything towards Daniel and to reassure her not to worry about it, he didn't want to make her upset from the get-go.
The two walked towards Carter's car hand in hand and once they got there Carter opened the door for Angela and let her get in before closing it.
The drive to the restaurant didn't take long since it was close to Angela's apartment and it was a place they frequented most of the time for their dates. Once they arrived Carter opened the door for her once again and they headed inside the restaurant, after giving the name of the reservation the two were escorted to a private room - which much to Angela's delight - was quite spacious and fancy.
The two sat and went over the menu, ordering some wine and their food, and while waiting they were served water. Once their waiter left they were left in a bit of silence, Carter wasn't sure how to start the conversation and Angela didn't seem all that talkative unlike usual, where she would talk so much he could hardly get a word in.
It seemed like she was expecting something but Carter wasn't sure what exactly that something would be.
"How has your week been?" Carter asked before taking a sip of water, Angela looked at him a little speechless.
"It's been fine I guess?" she said with a straight face, Carter nodded a little looking around the room.
"What's going on Carter?" she asked him a little unimpressed.
"What do you mean Angie?" Carter asked his fiancee curiously.
"Carter Abbot I wasn't born yesterday, you usually aren't all that talkative - I get that but this is seriously a new low. what did you come to pick me up for a date just to not speak to me at all unless it's small talk?" She asked slightly annoyed.
"What? no Angie, I just - I am not sure how to speak to you after the whole thing the other day, I am scared the things I have to tell you will upset you and I don't want to do that" Carter tried to explain.
"Upset me? what so you brought me out to our regular meet-up place to talk about your secretary?" she asked him utterly unimpressed.
"He isn't just a secretary Angela" Carter said - he, himself started to feel annoyed at her reaction.
"Then what exactly is he Carter?" She asked as her voice started to grow louder.
"He is my friend Angela, my best friend at that," Carter said, defending himself.
"Friend? you really think that man thinks of you as his friend? and yet you let him into your house without thinking about everything that could happen?" Angela yelled, asking Carter things that made him feel anger boiling over in his heart.
"Angela be careful with your words" Carter warned her, he didn't like where the conversation was heading.
"Whatever Carter let's just get this conversation over with," she said as she rolled her eyes, leaning back in her seat.
"Fine... So the baby you saw is Daniel's niece, her mother can't look after her at the moment due to circumstances, so I told him to come live with me so I could help him with her" Carter explained as calmly as possible, Angela only scoffed in response.
"And how sure are you that it wasn't a planned thing between the siblings to get some money from you?" Angela asked, and maybe that was finally the straw that broke the camel's back because Carter could no longer control his expression.
"Angela Blake, I will not have you speak of my friend in such a way, Daniel is nothing but a good friend and we aren't anything more than that, he is also not a gold digger so stop insinuating that he is either trying to seduce me or using me for my money," Carter told her.
"What? So my feelings don't even matter? What I feel doesn't matter? if you were another guy you would cut him out of your life for good if I told him too... I clearly see where I stand here" Angela yelled as she got up from her seat, she picked up her glass of water and threw it at Carter, water splashing him and the glass breaking right beside his head.
"Come find me when you are ready to get rid of Daniel and don't expect it will be easy to make up with me either! your words won't be enough Carter Abbot" she yelled and stormed off.
Carter sat there speechless, he didn't want this to happen... but he couldn't handle the way she spoke about Daniel, she spoke about him as if his existence was insignificant and meaningless and he just didn't like it, he was raised that regardless of status and money that everyone was equal and he finally realized not everyone in the world was raised with the same values as he was.
After collecting his thoughts for a bit Carter called the waiter and asked if he could get his food to go, instead of letting the food go to waste he would take it home and enjoy it with Daniel instead.
So after a small wait, his wine and food were ready to go, he collected everything and finally left the private room, and soon realized it might be a private room but it definitely wasn't soundproof as all eyes were trained on him as he walked out of the room, his hair and jacket still slightly wet from the water Angela threw at him.
But he decided to suck it up and walk out of the restaurant with his head held high and headed straight home.
