Chapter 12 - Aen

"Xenos huh." Neo crossed his arms, smiling softly he gazed into the fiery eyes of Zeno who got them out of trouble.

"I'm Reo Elwin, and this is my loyal accomplice Vanessa Leonheart." Vanessa quickly stomped on his feet, it irritated her that he called her his loyal accomplice.

"O..kay, so what made you guys decide to take the Aenist Exams? A lot of people are scared to take the exams here because well you've witnessed firsthand that we Entry Aenists are not exactly welcomed here." Xenos asked, here in Solstice Haven one usually has a strong motive for taking the Aenist Exams given the popularity of the awakened ones.

One of the obvious reasons was solely for protection, but not the protection of their loved comrades, but themselves. As mankind progressed further the awakened became more cruel, cowardly and the most noted trait, stingy.

"There is something we hope to accomplish, and we cannot achieve it the way we are." Vanessa answered in order diluted the fear of Neo speaking what he wasn't supposed to in her.

"Yeah...we need to get stronger and the only way to do that is by becoming an Aenist." Neo responded as well.

Xenos laughed out loudly, Vanessa and Neo wore a look of confusion on their faces as they couldn't tell what was so funny about pursuing their ambitions.

"Everyone wants to get stronger here. The real question is, why?" The happy grin on his face faded as soon as it came, they could tell he was now serious.

"Like anyone, we want to protect the ones we cherish. We already lost our loved ones to this war so we have have to get stronger, but what about you Xenos Ishitami? Why did you sign up for the Aenist Exams?" Vanessa answered and questioned Zeno's own motives, for a princess she had the curiosity of a warrior.

Xenos sighed, he glanced at the sky as memories of the past ran across his mind. "For revenge, I want to avenge the death of my father and kill the bastards who took his life for no reason. And I will shred every last essence of their being."

"That's..deep man." Neo spoke softly in an attempt to sympathize with Xenos, Vanessa slapped his arm swiftly finding his words a bit irrelevant.

"Well it's getting late, you guys don't seem to be from around here so how about we head over to my place for the night and get ready for the exams tomorrow." He offered them a chance for accommodation for the night and they accepted, they had no where to stay after all.

"Alright let's go, maybe you both can tell me more about yourself on the way." Xenos chuckled as he led the way back to his home.

Minutes later they arrived at his apartment, it was quite furnished with three red wood couch in the living room, he had a three bedroom apartment which was suitable for the three of them. Each bedrooms had a furnished double redwood bed, a wardrobe, mirror and an inner bathroom.

Vanessa wondered why Xenos decided to help them but seeing as they both had little options, they had to give in to his offer.

"Make yourselves at home, if your feeling hungry I can whip something up for you." He offered more kind gestures.

"That'll be-"Neo with a smile on his face attempted to accept his offer for food but was cut short by Vanessa's denial.

"No thanks, we're good." She replied.

Xenos nodded, he stepped out of the living room to his room to freshen up.

"Buzz kill." Neo scoffed as he went into the room Xenos had prepared for him, Vanessa sighed retreating to her space of accommodation.

Neo laid on the bed, it had been a while since he slept comfortably, the prison cell at the Suzana empire had no beds, making the prisoners stay more torturing.

He decided it was finally time to focus on his system, if he was to stand a chance passing the exams he had to be in sync with his system.

"System."

He spoke softly to avoid being heard by the others, a beeping sound resonated in his head and a blue holographic panel appeared in front of him displaying his stats. He was a gamer in his previous life so he knew physical contact with the holographic panel was impossible in the medieval times. To clear up his confusion he attempted to ask questions.

"What is Aen?" He spoke to his system.

[Aen is the magic utilized in Nexarion]

The system responded swiftly, Neo was taken aback by the response time of the system. It was more proficient than the high chipped gaming system back on earth.

"Nexarion? What is Nexarion?" Neo threw another question at the system.

[Nexarion is the name of the planet you're currently living in]

Neo was astonished, he never assumed that not only did the people, culture and environment changed but also the planet.

"Tell me more about Aen." He replied.

[Aen is the magic that grants specific individuals who managed to awaken it unique abilities, the abilities varies based on the special Aen class the individual awakens]

"Aen class? You mean different abilities results from different Aen class? What does light abilities fall under?" He asked his system.

[Knight Aen: An Aen class mostly awakened by people of royal blood and is considered to be the strongest class. The abilities this Class permits are Light or Shadow magic]

"I see, so Vanessa's special class is the Knight Aen." Neo spoke softly to himself recalling princess Vanessa using a beam of light from her hand to destroy the bridge that led to the castle.

He immediately remembered when he first transmigrated and killed Vanessa's knights with a ball of electricity which the system referred to as [Electric Burst]

"What Aen class do I fall under?" He asked out of curiosity to the type of Aen he had awakened.

[Elementalist Aen±: An Aen class which allows the awakened to manipulate any of the four elements of water, earth, fire or wind. In special cases a rare number of the awakened are granted special abilities created from the elements like Ice, plant or in extremely rare cases lightning. This Aen class is considered the weakest among all classes]
