Chapter 30 - Swap

Just like humans, mages had their own unique abilities and skills, demons were no exception to this rule, working for everyone. In the wide world, everyone had something different, something unique, especially if it was someone very powerful, such as the 70th demon.

When fighting against a mutated moose, Evan had summoned the 70th demon - Prince Seere. However, all he got for one year of his life was 0.1 second of the demon's physical power and its lance.

This was not the real ability of Prince Seere, because Evan's body simply could not withstand it.

However, if Evan had some artifact that contained a bit of Seere's power, then things would be completely different.

Seere's real power was to instantly move objects in place of others, and if he wanted to, Seere could even cross the entire world on his horse.

Naturally, someone like Drakar, who had contracted with a demon unknown to Evan, could not know this.

Crackle.

A stream of blood rushed outward as Evan's sword slashed Drakar's chest, lowering the blade all the way to the ground, which was quickly drenched in crimson liquid.

Before Drakar could regain consciousness, Evan spun around sharply, kicking his opponent, knocking him aside.

Halvor's eyes went wide just as Klaus, who was trying his best to stay conscious after being hit in the head by the chain.

'What was that...? What did he just do?' Klaus internally muttered in a daze, 'Did he jump forward? No, rather he teleported or else...' Klaus's eyes headed towards the simple rock that Evan had thrown a few seconds ago.

'Hahaha! Evan, you're doing great! Let's go! Finish that bastard off! The power of demons can be used in many ways, you definitely proved that today!" Halvor exclaimed happily.

Unlike Klaus, who was trying to make sense of the situation, Halvor just wanted Evan to win, nothing else mattered to him.

"Argh!!! Bastard!" Drakar roared furiously, rising from the ground.

Evan lifted his chin arrogantly, "Something wrong? Looks like your demon turned out to be pretty damn useless. You know, I'm still curious about them, so now I'm going to torture you until I know all the answers!"

Drakar was ready to explode with anger, the kind of humiliation he hadn't felt in a long time. As a Creator, member of the Crimson Wing, and a user of the demonic arts, he couldn't lose to a Commoner. It was something that was simply impossible.

"You have no idea who you've decided to mock! I will destroy you!" Drakar exclaimed, pointing his staff at Evan.

The Crimson crystal shone brightly, Drakar was ready to attack, but he stopped at the last moment, and the reason for that was the stone in Evan's hands.

"Such lofty speech filled with conceit, yet you are afraid of a simple stone in the hands of an ordinary Commoner? Or could the reason be that you realize I'm not an ordinary one?" Evan grinned evilly before throwing the stone.

Drakar's pupils narrowed, he prepared for Evan's attack, but nothing happened, the stone just fell to the ground.

"Hahaha! You should have seen your face! Being that scared over a simple rock... what a hilarious thing to do!" Evan laughed, holding his stomach demonstratively.

Drakar said nothing, he just remained silent with a dark face. Evan's actions were going beyond all acceptable limits, and even Drakar couldn't contain his emotions anymore, because now he only wanted one thing - to make Evan suffer.

Whooooooooooooosh.

Drakar let go of the staff, leaving it to float above the ground. Then, his Warp reached its speed limit, and scarlet energy traveled to his fingertips.

He brought his palms closer together, creating a dense sphere of energy between them, shaking violently, ready to explode at any moment.

Evan was wary, it was unknown to him what Drakar was going to do, since it was obviously some kind of spell, since he didn't use the staff obtained from the demon.

"I didn't want to use it, it would put me in a difficult position if anyone else came here besides you, but the main larva is already dead anyway..." Drakar muttered before clasping his palms together.

At the same moment, the sphere enlarged dozens of times, covering Drakar like a dome. Then, several threads like blades pierced his body, causing his eyes to glow as he soared above the ground with his arms spread apart, as if ready to ascend to the heavens. Though, there was hardly any way for him to go but hell.

The surface of the dome began to shake like lava with bursting magma bubbles, then dozens of bloody projectiles rained down on Evan in a single stream.

In a split second, several options appeared in his mind: First - he could have run away or replaced himself with some object, but he quickly pushed that option aside.

He only had two more crystals, and it was unknown if the projectiles could follow him, so he decided to act on the second option.

Whoooooooooooooosh.

The broad blade of the sword cut the three clots in a vertical slash for a moment, clearing the space in front of Evan.

However, in a heartbeat, new projectiles replaced the space, raining down in hail on Evan.

With each action, he tried to swing his sword faster and faster, keeping his balance while stepping back - each step bought him a little time to react. But, it was hardly enough.

Bam. Bam. Bam.

Bloody projectiles slammed into Evan's shoulders, arms, and legs, leaving behind lacerations as if from a small explosion, non-lethal but incredibly painful.

'Fuck! It hurts so bad! It's like I'm burning alive! Just a little more, I have to hold on a little longer!' Evan inwardly exclaimed, clenching his teeth and focusing all his attention on the projectiles.

A few seconds before the projectiles were about to run out, the sphere collapsed, turning into a huge scarlet blast approaching Evan at lightning speed.

The stone floor of the cave turned to dust, the sphere leaving a smooth trail behind it like a meteorite demolishing everything in its path.

Evan's pupils narrowed as he kicked a random rock, and the crystal in his earring shone brightly.

At the last moment, he and the stone swapped places, saving his life and sacrificing the stone that, in a heartbeat, was turned to dust.

'Was that one of his spells...? One of the spells a Creator can wield? No fucking way...' Evan muttered to himself in disbelief.

Such a power was quite different from the one Halvor possessed, two different classes, two different paths, two different styles of combat.

However, Evan realized that Drakar's last attack had been powerful enough to destroy hundreds of parasites, even dark ones, without any difficulty.

Drakar wiped the blood flowing from the corner of his mouth and looked at Evan with an exhausted look, "Oh, you managed to survive? Impressive. Your demon's ability is indeed impressive, but it seems you have significant limitations, don't you? After all... If that weren't the case, there'd be nothing stopping you from swapping the stone and my heart, for example."

Evan frowned, he wasn't going to hide it, but Drakar's insight alerted him.

"Agh, whatever, given your condition, you've already lost anyway." Drakar uttered before taking the staff and pointing it at Evan, causing the crystal to shine brightly, the air trembling.
