Chapter 20 - The Sixth Day

The human body like any other has its weaknesses, usually the neck, eyes, brain, or heart. However, good or not, men had another weak point, the forbidden subject, however, that didn't stop Evan from doing what he did.

"Ek!" Halvor's face turned red, in an attempt to contain the pain, as his eyes went wide and his veins swelled.

No one had expected Evan to decide to do something like this, it was a real disrespect to the one who had taken them in and trained them.

However, even after realizing all this, Klaus wasn't going to stop.

He followed Evan's movements, and before Halvor could recover from the shock, his palm plunged into Halvor's throat like a sharp spear piercing everything in its path.

The two sudden attacks on his weaknesses caused Halvor to lose his balance. In fact, he just didn't expect his opponents to act so brazenly.

Bam.

Halvor collapsed to the ground, leaving a mark on his broad back.

He quickly opened his eyes, going to get up, but was unable to do so since Evan and Klaus pointed their hands at him.

They had no weapons, but if swords had been clenched in their fists, the sharp tips of the blades would have been right at Halvor's neck.

"I think there's no need to use mana. Obviously, we're skilled enough to go into the lair with you." Evan uttered before extending a hand.

"Your right." Halvor smirked, gripping Evan's wrist tightly and rising from the ground, "However, you should have had some respect for whoever was training you!"

"Agh...?"

The world in front of Evan's eyes turned upside down as Halvor threw him forward with all his might, straight into the bubbling and cold river.

"Hahahahahahahahahaha!"

Under the splashing water, Klaus's laughter erupted.

"Evan, how's the water? Not too cold?!" Klaus smirked, continuing to chuckle.

Tap.

Halvor's large palm fell on his shoulder, radiating menacing intent.

"Hey, do you really think I forgot about you?"

The next one in the water was Klaus.

With difficulty, but soon Evan got out of the river. It was freezing cold, and the current was strong, so this small task took as much energy from him as a full-blown workout.

"Fuck... That was fast, I didn't even realize it." Evan muttered, looking at Halvor walking away towards the house.

Splash.

Klaus surfaced out of the water beside him.

"You think he gave in to us?" Klaus asked, removing the sticking hair from his face that blocking his view.

Evan nodded with a slight delay.

"He wasn't expecting these attacks, that's for sure, but he was hardly hurt, at all. In fact, when I kicked him, there was a bright pain through my leg, down to the bone, as if I'd hit an iron beam instead of his weak spot." Evan said in all seriousness.

Klaus looked at his palm, his fingers trembling slightly from the pain that hadn't fully subsided yet.

"Evan, I hope you can become a mage... You still have one more chance, unlike me..." Klaus uttered with a dark look before walking out of the shore.

Kellan had already lost two chances out of three since his talent for magic had not awakened at either 16 or 17. However, unlike Klaus, who was 19, Evan will have one more chance in a month.

When he turns 18, the fate of his life will be decided. Will he be able to become a mage and climb to the top, or will he be forever limited by the power of the Knight?

'You're right, all I have to do is hope for luck... However, that's never been my strong side.' Evan climbed out of the river as shadows flickered amongst his eyes, one of which strangely radiated elegance and sublimity like a scholar.

...

Three days later, the decisive moment arrived.

In 24 hours, Evan's contract will expire, and he will lose ten years of his life. However, that will only happen if he fails.

"Hana, here you go. I prepared this especially for you." Halvor uttered, handing her a cup of green tea, murky and disgusting smelling.

Hana covered her nose, trying not to breathe in that 'aroma'.

"What is that...? It smells just awful!"

Halvor smirked, "It will help you control the curse. You're lucky that the Cursed Cell fits in your eye if that can even be called lucky. It's the easiest to hide, and in the eye, Cursed Cells are the least active."

Without further ado, Hana took the cup and drank it all in a few gulps.

It was the worst thing she had ever tasted in her life, but it was worth it.

After the first few sips, Hana felt better. A peace and quiet came to her that she had already forgotten about, this was a real dream come true for her.

"Good, also take this." Halvor pulled a vial of purple liquid out of his bag. The glass was slightly yellowish, showing how old and time-worn it was.

"Use this only as a last resort. It will activate your Cursed Cell to a level it never had before, even on your most difficult days. The consequences could be serious." Halvor squeezed Hana's hands tightly.

Sparks flew off to the sides, from the sharpening stone passing over the sharp blade of the rapier, making it even more deadly.

"Oh, you're an alchemist?" Klaus asked with genuine surprise.

Halvor shook his head.

"This potion was created by an old friend of mine, he is an alchemist. My Tantum did not offer me any metamorphosis. However, he taught me some simple recipes. It doesn't need to be an alchemist to create." Halvor uttered before tossing the two red vials.

Evan and Klaus caught them, examining them closely.

"Considering that physically you haven't even reached Knight level yet, your maximum is one vial. Although, even then, you'll suffer from intoxication for a while afterward, but it's no big deal." Halvor explained.

"Intoxication...?"

Evan muttered, rocking the vial from side to side, looking at the flowing scarlet liquid inside.

"Yeah. This potion will cure all of your wounds except for critical ones and fractures. However, even the best potion has some poison in it. Even I can drink a maximum of three of these." Halvor nodded.

'Alchemy... Intoxication... This world is getting more complex and interesting every day...' Evan pondered as he looked at Halvor.

"By the way, before we go, there's something I'd like to know."

"Hmm?" Halvor gave him a questioning look.

"What is your Arcanum Path? You have to have one of the three, don't you?"

"Heh, isn't that obvious?" Halvor grinned, showing off his massive axe, "I'm an Amplifier!"

Finishing their preparations, Evan, Klaus, Halvor, and Hana went outside while the sun was slowly disappearing over the horizon, becoming a harbinger of imminent darkness.

The cold wind and blizzard were more active than ever, but it couldn't stop the four silhouettes, driven by the sole purpose of destroying the parasite lair.
