Chapter 31 - Fatigued

Glancing at the magical arrow next to him, Lawrence was amused that the figure finally left and didn't pretend to leave.

She disappeared from her position, but Lawrence could sense it was hiding, clearly waiting for him to lower his guard down. Thus, he decided to make such vulgar speech to prompt the woman to simply attack him.

And now that it had tried but failed, Lawrence was no longer able to sense her presence.

Nevertheless, Lawrence wasn't a bit happy about chasing the mysterious woman.

"Cough, that woman sure is difficult to deal with." Lawrence coughed up a mouthful of blood and plopped to the ground, clearly fatigued. He might have avoided most of the critical hits, but just deflecting her attack had caused him quite the trouble.

If it was known to others, then Lawrence was positive that he would become the butt of a joke.

Luckily, Lawrence was able to put up a strong front and repeatedly taunt the woman, essentially deceiving and misleading her into believing that he was hiding more of his strength.

After all, no one would be that audacious to act so vulgar and hooligan toward someone stronger than them. Only a person without any brain cell would do such an act to seek their own death instantaneously.

And that was exactly what Lawrence gambled and capitalized upon.

The more clever a person was, the more they would tend to overthink and consider many possibilities, thus resulting in them achieving nothing. However, not thinking about anything wasn't ideal either, and one must be able to balance whether to overthink or simply go ahead with some tasks.

That was the main difference in Lawrence's victory against the mysterious woman.

His ability to discern when or when not to utilize his action was pivotal in scaring her away. Going from a hooligan behavior to a serious personality all of a sudden, and delivering a strike at her in surprise was what factored in.

"The woman is inexperienced in real-world situations, but her skills are truly shocking. The magical attack and close combat techniques don't even seem to have originated from the Tatum Kingdom." He murmured, feeling bitter about not being able to recognize the combat skills used.

Wiping the blood off his mouth with his sleeve, Lawrence realized the undercurrent of the Tatum Kingdom was much more complex and layered than he initially thought.

A simple task that he thought would be finished in a snap of a finger somehow turned into this overly complex situation.

It was as if gods or goddesses were telling him he was having too much of an easy life, so they proceeded to make him involved in such muddy water.

"Damn it, why must that woman be targeting Agatha?" Lawrence scratched his head. From a small scale to a bigger scale now, Lawrence wondered if this was the butterfly effect taking place currently.

After all, he would have never encountered the woman had he stayed in the Tatum Academy or if he never even bothered to come all the way here, and retrieved the parasite from Agatha's mother.

All these situations wouldn't have taken place if it was the still old Lawrence, who only got a brain cell of a small pea.

Shaking his head, Lawrence could only accept the current situation that had happened. It wasn't like he could do much to salvage it, and even if he could redo his action, he would still choose this path, albeit with some variation.

The first would naturally not cure Agatha's mother on the spot but bring some strong backup. That way, the mysterious woman would have been in his clutch by now.

'Tsk, that's a blunder, but who told me to be a lone star now. Ahh, just who could assist me and not make me wary of them?' Lawrence sighed inwardly. Alas, no one could understand the difficulty that Lawrence was going through.

This was a tough life for someone like Lawrence, who was not only handsome but amazingly awesome in his skills. Thus, there are practically little to none that could actually stand next to him or even assist him properly.

You can call him narcissistic, but let's be real, you can't deny his capabilities.

Just look at how he scared away the mysterious woman despite having limited skills in his capacity, should be enough evidence.

"So fatigued… if only I didn't promise the Old Fool and still need some more of his Aetherforge Elixir then I would have gone to a massage parlor. I really would like some happy ending." Lawrence lamented and began leaving the slum area in search of high-quality booze.

The high-quality booze was all located in the central zone of Valera City, which makes sense since it was the center of attention.

Only a fool would put up a high-quality tavern in some slum area and expect the people there to have the money to afford the exorbitant prices.

Sometime later, Lawrence arrived at the central zone, which had another nickname for this place.

The neon light district!

Not sure if you have heard of a red light district, which meant a gathering of places for prostitution and all kinds of gambling or stuff that are not allowed in daytime, but this neon light district was leagues above the red light district.

The neon light district was a gathering of such places similar to a red light district, but the difference was tremendously large. The quality and people here in the neon light district were more clever and known not to cause trouble.

Of course, there are still some rotten apples here and there but fret not. These rotten apples are usually silenced rather quickly unless they are someone with status, but the probability of that was low.

No high-status people would behave so impudently aside from Lawrence.

Standing by the rooftop and looking at the activity in the neon light district, Lawrence sighed and realized humans were quite hypocrites.

"They all talk high and mighty as if they are born with the greatest bloodline. But at the end of the day, they are no different than beasts." Lawrence mumbled, having seen a noble wrapping his arms around two great beauties.
