Alex pulled out a small device and whispered, "I've got an idea. This device can emit a high-pitched sound, momentarily disorienting anyone who hears it. It might buy us a few seconds to slip away."
With bated breath, they activated the device, and the piercing noise filled the corridor. Guards approaching from the opposite direction stumbled and clutched their ears in pain, buying the trio precious moments.
However, as the noise subsided, Nathan knew they couldn't rely on this trick for long. Their escape had become even more urgent, and with the guards now alerted, they had to find their way out before they were discovered.
Nathan whispered in low tone, "We can't stay here. We need to keep moving. The closest exit is through the garden courtyard. I've been here before; it's our best chance."
