Chapter 9 - chapter 9

Ace's pov

As soon as Ace left, I had time to do some thinking. "What is he up to? A one-year contract? Really?" I asked myself.

We hadn't talked about the contract at the restaurant. It seemed like such a big decision, and I felt left out of the planning.

"Avery, you shouldn't be worried about this," I thought to myself."It's not like you wanted to get married to him in the first place.

I decided to distract myself from my thoughts by baking. Cupcakes and brownies sounded like the perfect treats to make. Since I didn't know where all the ingredients and utensils were, I rang the maid and asked if she would help me bake. We decided to work together in the kitchen.

Of course, I'll help you describe the process of baking. It'll be like we're in the kitchen together! Here goes:

We gathered all the ingredients for the cupcakes and brownies: flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and other things. The maid helped me measure and mix everything together. Then we poured the batter into the cupcake and brownie pans.

After the batter was poured into the cupcake and brownie pans, I decided to have a little fun. I took some cookie cutters and pressed them into the brownie batter to make cute shapes. I made stars, hearts, and flowers. I couldn't wait to see how they would turn out! The maid thought it was a great idea, and she helped me clean up the mess.

We put them in the oven and set the timer. The smell of the baking treats filled the kitchen. It smelled sweet and delicious.

I decided to watch TV as the cupcakes and brownies baked in the oven. I felt so cooped up in the house with no one to talk to. I realized that I really needed to get out and find another job. It would help me focus on something other than my marriage situation. Plus, having a job would make me feel more productive and give me a sense of purpose. I just wasn't sure what kind of job I should look for.

I heard my phone ring. When I looked at the caller ID, I saw that it was Zoe. It had been a while since we'd spoken - she'd been out of town for a while. Zoe is one of my closest friends, along with Becky. But I couldn't stand Becky after she slept with my ex. If it weren't for her, I never would have married Ace in the first place.

I answered the call.

"Hey Aves" she said laughing.

She literally screamed in the phone.

"Hey Zoe baby" I replied.

"How are you, how have you been, what's going on in your life I need to know everything" she said rambling.

Awwwwn this is so cute, I just realized how much I've missed her.

"It's a long story, Zoe," I said, because I wasn't sure where to begin.

"That's okay, I'll take you out for coffee tomorrow," she said mischievously.

What did she mean? She wasn't even in town, so how could she take me out for coffee? Unless...

"Zoe, are you back in town?" I asked, feeling a rush of excitement.

Sure thing! Here's the revised text:

"Oh my fudgecake, I can't wait to see you!" I exclaimed.

"You still say 'fudgecake'?" she teased.

"Sometimes," I replied with a laugh.

"Yes, I'm back, Aves," she confirmed.

We talked for a while longer before we hung up.

I'm so excited that Zoe is back in town. We have a lot to catch up on.

I can't wait for tomorrow.

Ding! My timer went off, and the cupcakes and brownies were done baking.

I took them out of the oven and set the cupcakes on a cooling rack, putting a hand towel under it.

I set the brownies on a pan and let them cool for a bit.

When I was done decorating, I admired my handiwork and felt a sense of pride.

The cupcakes looked like little smiling faces, complete with sprinkles for eyes and a mouth.

They were almost too cute to eat! Almost…

I rang for the maid that helped me and gave her some.

I decided to save the rest for later.

I might share some with him even though he's mean to me.

I went upstairs to my room to take my shower and rid of the flour and little mess I made on myself.

After taking my bath, I got out of the shower and got into a change of cloth and decided to rest a little bit because I felt tired.

I slept for a long time till someone shook me up from my sleep.

I was annoyed at this point because that's not a proper manner to wake someone from their sleep.

" wake up, you sleep like a cow" the person said.

That made me get up fast

Opening my eyes I saw that it was Ace.

"Ace what are you doing in my room" I asked him anger written all over my face.

"This is my house I have the right to walk into any room" he said cockily.

"I feel like killing you right now," I said, my face burning with anger. "You talk so much about privacy, but you don't respect mine. Why would you come into my room without knocking?"

"It's my house, I can go wherever I want," he said with a cocky smile.

"That's just nonsense," I said, losing my patience. "Why are you even here?"

"Did you call my father?" he asked, his voice rising in anger.

"Is that why you woke me up?" I asked incredulously. "To ask me a question like that?"

"Just answer it!" he insisted, clearly getting more frustrated.

"What kind of question is that?" I asked, my tone sharpening.

"It's a simple yes or no question, Avery," he said, raising his voice. "Just answer it!"

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.

"No, I didn't Ace" I replied calmly.

"My father called to ask me if I was taking good care of you," he said.

"So what did you tell him? I hope you didn't lie to him," I said, my voice sharp.

"That's none of your business," he yelled. "And there's more."

"Is that all? Please leave my room," I said, not wanting to deal with this anymore.

"There's more," he continued. "My father wants us to go on our honeymoon next week."

"I don't want to go to anywhere with you " I replied terrified.

"It's the way you keep pretending that really ticks me off," he said.

"I'm not pretending," I started to say, but he cut me off.

"I know it's all part of your plan," he said. "You're playing innocent, but you're really up to something."

"I didn't know anything about this!" I insisted, trying to convince him.

"I'm going to make your stay here with me a living hell," he said, storming out of the room.
