Chapter 34 - ENSNARED BY WRATH : MEILI VS XAPHAN

Elia, her eyes blazing with fury, wasted no time in taking the offensive. Elia, her hands a blur of motion, manipulated the invisible threads of energy with expert precision. The lethal net she spun was not meant to ensnare the body, but the soul itself - a technique passed down through generations of Hanzo clan warriors.

Xaphan, his arms transformed into dark, impenetrable shields, deflected the attack with a mocking laugh. "Impressive, but futile," he purred. "Against my power, your attacks are no more than a whisper in the wind."

As Elia's threads dissolved into the shadows, Lei stepped forward, his eyes flashing with determination.

"Don't underestimate us, Xaphan," she growled, the words heavy with the weight of her anger. "We won't let you have Lian, I won't give her up even if I die trying."

Xaphan's grin widened, a cruel gleam in his eyes. "And what will you do to stop me, Hanzo princess ?" he taunted, his voice dripping with venom.

Elia's eyes blazed with fury at Xaphan's words, her hands clenching into fists. "You'll find out soon enough, Xaphan," she snarled, her voice vibrating with the heat of her anger.

Lei, her stance determined and fierce, mirrored Elia's resolve. "We'll show you what Hanzo clan nobles are truly capable of," she growled, her body tensing for attack.

Xaphan chuckled, his amusement laced with malice.

"Oh, you girls," Xaphan said, his voice dripping with mockery. "Your bravery is admirable, but ultimately...pointless."

As the battle intensified, the area echoed with the explosive sounds of punches, the shattering of rock, and the crackling of Chi energy. Lei, her fist blazing with power, connected with Xaphan's face, sending him reeling backwards

*BOOM*

Elia, her feet a blur of movement, unleashed a spinning kick that sent a spray of sparks into the air

*CRACK *

"We won't give up, Xaphan!" Lei shouted, her voice ringing with determination. "Lian is counting on Us! You'll take us to her no matter what."

"Brave, but foolish," Xaphan hissed, his form transforming with inhuman speed. As the two girls launched their next attack, Xaphan transformed his torso into a thick, thorny armor, their fists and kicks bouncing off the deadly spikes.

With a laugh that sent shivers down their spines, Xaphan shot forward, the spikes on his torso spinning like a buzzsaw. "Perhaps you'll be more entertaining as a pair of severed limbs," he cackled, the ground beneath his feet cracking with the force of his attack.

Elia and Lei, their hearts racing with fear, tried to dodge the deadly spikes, but Xaphan's movements were too swift.

*SCHWING! *

The sound of steel slicing through the air filled the cave, as Xaphan's armor cut a vicious path through their defenses.

With a cry of pain, Elia collapsed to the ground, clutching her shoulder. "Elia!" Lei shouted, her eyes widening with horror.

But Xaphan was relentless, his form shifting again as he bore down on Lei.

CRASH!

The sound of stone shattering echoed throughout the cave as Xaphan, his serpentine form expanding to a monstrous size, slammed against the ceiling.

The ground trembled, the dust swirling in a frenzy as Lei, her limbs shaking, struggled to her feet.

Xaphan, his slitted eyes narrowing, hissed, "Your bravery will make you a worthy offering to the Chimera Worm."

Lei's fear became palpable, her breathing coming in short, ragged gasps as she stared into Xaphan's cold, reptilian eyes.

With a swift flick of his tail, Xaphan wrapped Lei in his coils, his grip tightening like a vise.

AHHH!!!

Lei's scream of pain echoed throughout the cavern, her body writhing in a futile attempt to break free.

Xaphan's serpentine head lowered, his forked tongue flicking out to taste her fear. "Your struggle only makes it sweeter, princess," he hissed.

Lei's terror reached a crescendo, her tears flowing freely as her body shook with fear. "Help...Elia," she stammered, her voice cracking with desperation. "Please, help me!"

Elia, her body racked with pain, dragged herself to her feet, her eyes burning with rage. "Lei, I'm coming!" she cried, her breath ragged with the effort.

Xaphan, sensing his prey's futile attempt at rescue, gave a low, menacing chuckle. "And so the drama unfolds," he hissed.

Xaphan's eyes narrowed as he considered his next move, his serpentine form coiled tightly around Lei's trembling body.

"The Hanzo princess is a tempting morsel, to be sure," he hissed, his voice echoing in the dimly lit cave. "But Kai...he is the true prize. I can't be too sure he'll get along well?!"

A low, rumbling chuckle rose from Xaphan's throat. "No, the element of surprise is lost to me now. But there is another way," Xaphan mused, his serpentine form unwinding slightly, his eyes gleaming with newfound cunning. "A way to turn this unexpected development to my advantage."

With a flick of his tail, Xaphan tightened his grip around Lei, a cruel smile tugging at his reptilian lips.

"Haha, I will curse her," he whispered, his voice dripping with venomous pleasure. "Her Hanzo power will become mine, and she will become a tool for my ultimate goal."

With a snap of his tail, Xaphan brought Lei closer to his face, his slitted eyes narrowed in satisfaction.

"You will live, princess," he hissed, the curse taking hold as dark, serpentine runes began to writhe across Lei's skin. "But you will serve me in this life and the next."

Elia, her eyes widening in horror, managed to crawl to her feet, her injured shoulder aching with every movement. "Xaphan, stop!" she cried, her voice raw with fear. "Don't do this!"

Xaphan's serpentine form undulated menacingly as he hissed at Elia, his voice dripping with malice. "You boast of your prowess, yet cower in fear. Your terror is palpable, a scent I can savor from afar. You know you're no match for me, and your inaction condemned your friend to my mercy."

His gaze remained fixed on Lei, whose screams grew more frantic, her voice raw and hoarse with desperation. "Elia, please... don't let me die!" she begged, her body shuddering against Xaphan's unyielding grasp.

Elia's eyes narrowed in defiance, her hand gripping the hilt of her sword. "You may be right about me,I'm scared of what am I seeing right now, no doubt about that." she growled, her voice low and fierce, "but I will not stand idly by while you defile her."

With a roar of rage, Elia lunged forward, her sword a gleaming arc of steel as she aimed to strike at Xaphan's scaled hide.

But Xaphan was prepared, transforming his serpentine tail into a sharp, barbed blade that caught Elia's sword with a CLANG of metal on metal, deflecting her blow.

With a serpentine snarl, Xaphan stretched his barbed tail into a whiplike appendage, its length coiling around Elia's body and slamming her against a nearby tree with a thunderous.

*THUD*

Elia cried out in pain as she struggled against the impaling coils, her sword falling to the ground.

*CLANG*

With Elia's resistance subdued, Xaphan turned his attention back to Lei, his serpentine form slithering closer until his fanged maw was inches away from her vulnerable neck.

"No!" Lei screamed, her body trembling as Xaphan's fangs sank into her neck, his venomous poison flooding her veins. The curse takes hold, and Lei's eyes turn a dark, sinister shade of crimson.

A cold wave of numbness spread through Lei's body, her vision blurring as her strength drained from her limbs. "Elia..." she choked out, her voice weak and faltering.

In Elia's eyes, the sight of her friend's suffering sent a jolt of fury and despair through her very core. She fought against Xaphan's coils, her struggle fueled by the strength of her emotions.

Lei's eyes fluttered, her mind a turbulent canvas of memories and whispers. A voice rose above the din, its words a beacon in the storm. "You cannot walk this path alone, Lei. You need us."

A second voice lashed out, its truth cutting like a whip. "You know you can't do this alone, you need us! I know you, you only see her as a means to an end, don't you? A mere squadmate to complete the quest! If it were anyone else, you'd be singing a different tune, wouldn't you, Lei?" Meili's rebuke seared Lei's conscience.

Lei's voice barely registered, a faint whisper lost in the gale. "Lian...Meili...I failed..."

Then, a promise, a vow spoken in the darkness. "No, Lei, listen! This has nothing to do with Lian being your squadmate. She's Iron Fist, one of us! If it were any other friend, I'd fight tooth and nail to save them. I made a promised, I would always be there for my friends. So I'm not losing any of you, Not you, not Lian." Meili's words illuminated the shadows.

As Lei's vision faded, Meili emerged, descending from the trees with Fuse, their faces etched with shock and concern.

As Lei's senses faded into oblivion, she became aware of the presence of her friends, their bodies cast in shadow by the flickering light of the cave. Meili's voice, a guiding light in the darkness, echoed in her mind.

"Lei, hold on! You're not giving up yet, we're here for you. You're strong, Lei, stronger than you know. You've got to fight this, don't you dare surrender." Meili's words were filled with passion, her eyes blazing with determination.

Meili, her eyes widening in horror, watched as Xaphan, his serpentine form rippling with dark power, unleashed a devastating attack on Elia. Elia was sent flying, her body crashing into the cavern wall

*THUD*

As Elia collapsed to the ground, her breathing ragged and shallow, Meili's rage exploded, a wave of energy surging through her body. "You monster!" she shrieked, her voice echoing through the cave. "I'll make you pay for this!"

As Meili's inner demon raged, the cave shuddered under her fury. Wraithbane, the malignant presence residing within her, seized the opportunity to seize control, his voice a cruel whisper in her mind.

"Yesss, unleash your rage, girl," Wraithbane purred, his voice dripping with dark glee. "Feel the power coursing through you, the strength to crush your enemies. I can help you, Meili. Together, we will annihilate all who oppose us."

As Fuse approached Meili, a surge of Wraithbane's malicious aura flared, scorching her hand and causing her to recoil in pain." Oh no, what's up with Meili !"

Xaphan, sensing the shift in power, hissed with delight. "Ahhh, what have we here? The little firecracker is awakening, is she? Delicious."

Meili's eyes, once clear and determined, became shrouded with Wraithbane's crimson haze. "I will destroy you all!" she roared, her voice echoing with Wraithbane's sinister influence.

A tense standoff brewed between Meili and Xaphan, the air thick with anticipation. Xaphan's interest piqued as he sensed the battle's potential. With a calculated gleam in his eye, he began to channel more of his ki.

"Your aura is unlike any I've encountered," Xaphan admitted, his voice laced with intrigue. "This fight might prove worthy of my attention. But don't raise my expectations only to disappoint, girl. If you falter, I'll ensure your demise—and that of your friends—for wasting my time."

Meili's response was a wicked, devilish grin, her eyes flashing with excitement. She reveled in the challenge, poised to unleash her full fury upon Xaphan.

The air was heavy with tension, the forest around Meili and Xaphan seeming to writhe under the weight of their impending clash. Fuse, sensing the escalating danger, swiftly intervened, whisking Elia and Lei to safer grounds.

Distantly, Si-Fu Hibiki's keen senses alerted him to the turmoil. "Mei, follow me! A sudden ki explosion has shaken the landscape. We risk arriving too late; let's move swiftly!"

Mei's response was instant, her voice firm. "Alright!"

Hibiki's expression turned grave, his thoughts racing. "Who or what could be unleashing this magnitude of energy? The darkness emanating from it is palpable, and Xaphan's presence only deepens the mystery."

The disturbance rippled through the warrior community, prompting many to flee the region. However, a few sensed the aura's significance.

Kai towered over the beast's lifeless form, his breathing steady. Yet, the aura's darkness seeped into his bones.

"Lei... Fuse... Meili... Those idiots, what have they gotten into now? " Kai's thoughts churned, suspicion festering. They'd left him behind, but he wouldn't be ignored .

With methodical precision, Kai ensured the beast's destruction was complete.

"Now, I have to get involved," Kai said, his voice low and even.

Rhett, conversely, remained unperturbed. Having already secured the necessary items, he instructed his team, Jade and Xia, to remain calm and focus on submitting their acquisitions tomorrow morning.

"Stay alert, but let's not get drawn in," Rhett advised. "Our priority is advancing to the next round."

Meanwhile, Ryou, Levi, and Nix detected the ominous energy. Concern etched on their faces, Levi and Ryou exchanged urgent glances.

"Lei!" Ryou shouted, already sprinting toward the source.

"Elia!" Levi yelled, his voice laced with worry. "What's happening? Why has your friend gotten Elia entangled in this?"

Ryou shot back, "I don't know, but I won't let anything harm Lei!"

Together, the trio rushed toward the epicenter, Nix keeping pace alongside them.

Meili and Xaphan stood on the brink of an all-out clash, the air between them charged with power and anticipation. Meili, her eyes flickering with Wraithbane's influence, narrowed her gaze and bared her teeth in a fierce grin.

Wraithbane, the malignant spirit within Meili, had all but taken control. Her eyes, once clear and determined, now shone with a crimson malice, her thoughts consumed by a singular purpose - to destroy Xaphan.

"So eager to die," Xaphan taunted, his serpentine form coiling in anticipation. "Come, little human. Let us see how long you last against me."
