Chapter 15 - Staring

In the search for the fragments of The Mebius Heart, Rowan explores towards the endless west of the digital world, continuously searching without finding any clues indicating the presence of The Mebius Heart, except for what Yi mentioned earlier.

While resting, a sound whispers in Rowan's ears, urging him to go to a specific place. Rowan sets out and continues his search. The same whisper is heard again, but this time a force weakens Rowan's body, causing him to close his eyes.

When he opens his eyes, Rowan sees a giant monument in front of him, floating in the air and shaped like a dark giant box. The same whisper is now coming from inside the monument. Rowan searches for the entrance but can't find it. He asks, "Do either of you know what this monument is?" Haval replies, "I've never seen this monument before in my incarnations." Meanwhile, Goza answers, "This is a monument that houses a portal to another world within the digital world, and it's called the Tesseractor."

Rowan asks, "Goza, what's inside this monument? A portal to another world within the digital world? What is that?" Goza responds, "A portal leading to a world with deeper knowledge within the digital realm. This world is called Nefarious, complex in terms of its vastness and origin." Rowan inquires, "So, what is this complexity?" Goza explains, "The vastness—the vastness within Nefarious is hard to grasp. Nefarious fills the digital world without appearing to fill it. It serves as the baseline for every existence, even the expanses of the digital world. Yet, Nefarious itself exists elsewhere, unconnected to the digital world."

Goza continues, "Nefarious and the digital world share the same expanse, but Nefarious is within the digital world. Its origin is not easily understood. For instance, a box inside a room before the existence of the room—here, the box exists before the room, but it is inside the room. The same goes for the origin of Nefarious. Nefarious exists before the digital world, but it is within the digital world before it exists."

Rowan nods in understanding. The current issue is how to enter the monument. When Rowan decides not to enter, he notices a door not far from the monument. He hadn't seen the door earlier, but without much thought, he enters it. The door takes Rowan inside the monument, where a purple light radiates throughout the room. The monument's floor seems wet, but what's surprising is that, upon closer inspection, the floor is actually a vast ocean. Rowan, however, floats on the surface as if standing on solid ground.

In the silent moment, a voice resonates through the monument, coming from beneath the ocean-like floor. In the distance, Rowan sees a colossal wave approaching, generating strong vibrations and sounds. Right in front of Rowan, a giant whale leaps into the sky, creating a powerful wave. Due to the wave, Rowan is thrown far away. Haval shouts, "Threat detected! Charge!" Drawing his sword, Haval commands, "Attack!" Rowan advances with additional speed, alongside Goza and Haval. BOOM! Rowan manages to injure the whale, but it quickly regenerates upon contact with the seawater.

The situation becomes more epic as the whale attacks with sword-shaped waves heading towards Rowan at high speed. Rowan is almost crushed by the attack, but thanks to a protective barrier emerging from Goza's power, Rowan is saved. The whale advances, intending to devour Rowan, but a commanding voice echoes, saying, "Stop!" From afar, Rowan sees a man in striking battle attire.

The man approaches Rowan and apologizes for the earlier incident. Rowan, still angry, says, "I almost died!" The man apologizes again, and what was initially a panic turns into an argument. Rowan ends the dispute, asking, "Who are you?" The man introduces himself as 陈玉龙 or Chen Yulong. Strangely, he exists in this world without an apparatus, even as a human. Rowan asks if there's another name to call him, and he says to call him Chen.

Rowan questions Chen about his true identity, and Chen reveals he is the embodiment of a powerful entity in this world called The Mebius Heart. Shocked, Rowan asks if Chen is The Mebius Heart. Chen confirms and asks why. Rowan explains that he's searching for The Mebius Heart, which supposedly has the power to ascend the Luna staircase.

Chen understands and asks if Rowan seeks his power to aid in climbing the Luna staircase. Rowan replies, "Something like that." Chen's battle attire emits a golden aura, and he unleashes waves that throw Rowan to the ground. Chen challenges Rowan to a fierce fight. Rowan, not scared but rather excited, is ready to engage in battle. Meanwhile, the whale joins the attack. In the midst of their fierce battle, Chen launches a final attack, and Rowan counters. Their attacks nearly collide but are halted by something in between, dissipating into dust and revealing Azrael, who effortlessly stops the two powerful strikes. Azrael invites them both to a fight, not seeking conflict but aiming to understand each other better.

Chen and Rowan engage in a serious battle against Azrael, but Azrael sees it as a game to better understand each other. Two swords strike Azrael's head, causing no impact or injury. Azrael attempts to attack Chen to observe the outcome, and as anticipated, Rowan deflects the attack. When Azrael turns to attack Rowan, Chen intervenes, and they work together. Azrael applauds, disappears, leaving only Chen and Rowan, both puzzled by what just happened.

In their confusion, they eventually understand Azrael's intention. Both fall silent after realizing the purpose. In Rowan's thoughts, he wonders, "Why did I choose to accept that fight when I knew I would lose?" Meanwhile, in Chen's thoughts, he contemplates, "Why did I choose to inflict trouble when it could be resolved easily?" They both reflect in that moment.
