In a room so neatly arrange that one can easily for a needle which accidentally dropped from ones hands, there is a bed which is neatly made, with crisp white sheets and a comforter in a deep shade of blue. On the wall, there's a not so large abstract painting in shades of green and gold, with a few small sculptures placed on the dresser below. Few steps away from the dresser there's a desk in the corner, with a sleek laptop and a stack of journals. The lamp on the desk casts a soft, warm light, making the room feel cozy and inviting. And there's a small potted plant on the windowsill, adding a splash of greenery to the space. The closet is off to the side, with a mirrored door that reflect light and this made the room feel even more spacious. The overall feel of the room is one of calm and serenity, yet it also feels energized and alive.
In the room is a tall and slender woman with a graceful, confident air about her. She has deep brown skin that's the color of mahogany, reflecting her African and Brazilian heritage. Her eyes are a dark chocolate brown, and her lips are full and naturally pink. Her long dark hair falls in waves past her shoulders. Her features are striking and distinct, with high cheekbones and a strong, straight nose. She's a woman who's undeniably beautiful, but also complex and intriguing. And that lady's name is Zara.
" Can't believe I'm done packing. But why do I feel like I'm forgetting something of great importance.... Oh oh oh I see... but were did I put my files?" She thought as she looked up at large picture frame: the picture frame showed a very happy family of 5. Zara stirred at the young lady in the picture frame who looks like a carbon copy of her but one who's smile could heal anyone who's heartbroken. Smiling to herself, she touched the bright and beautiful face of the woman as she said inwardly " I'm doing this for you please understand why I have to make such Hastily decision."
" I probably should begin writing now less I forget." Zara said to herself.
Zara sat at her desk, staring at the blank sheet of paper in front of her.pen in hand, she thought about her family and the financial burden they had been carrying for so long. She knew that by taking this new job in New York, she would be able to help them out and give them some much-needed relief. At the same time, she was also hoping that this change would allow her to discover more about herself and who she really was. She knew what she had to do, but it was hard to put her thoughts into words. She picked up her pen and began to write...
"Dear Dad and Grandma, I don't know how to begin this letter. I'm confused and unsure about what the future holds for me. I know that this was going to be a very difficult decision for me to make and is a decision that requires great deal of thought but I hope you both understand, but I hope you'll try to see things from my perspective."
"I know that if you were still alive, you would have done everything in your power to help our family, and I will always be grateful for that. "
"I want you to know that I'm not doing this to hurt you all or leave you all behind. This decision is about finding my own path, and living up to your dreams. I want to make you proud, even though you're not here with me. I know you would want me to be happy and successful, and that's what I'm trying to do. "
"I will always carry you in my heart, Dad and Grandma. I know you're looking down on me, and I hope you're proud of the woman I've become. Now, I have to face the future. It's time to start a new chapter in my life. But first, I need to say goodbye to the past. Goodbye, and thank you for everything.
.....
Looking at her letter she felt very satisfied with it. "Now let's complete our packing besides were the hell did I put my sketchpad?" She asked no one in particular. Opening her drawer she found her sketchpad but upon opening it an envelope fell out of it.
" What's this?" Opening it see saw it was a bank letter reminding her of her 5 million dollars debt balance.
A few minutes later, Zara heard the door open. And she quickly hide the letter and picked up a pen. Her mother poked her head into the room, a smile on her face.
"Zara, dinner is ready. Are you almost finished in here?"
Zara smiled and put down her pen. "Almost, Mom. I just have a few more things to write."
Her mother nodded and started to turn away, but then hesitated.
" Is something wrong? Since you return few hours ago you have so down. Is everything okay?" Her mom asked as she stood by the door with great concern.
"Everything is okay mom I will be down for dinner shortly." Zara assured her Mom.
....
The dinner table was set with Zara's favorite dishes, and the family sat down together to eat. But Zara was quiet, lost in her thoughts. Her mother looked at her with concern. "Zara, what's wrong? You've been so quiet. Is everything okay?" Her mom asked again during dinner.
Zara hesitated, her fork halfway to her mouth. Then, she put it down and looked at her mother.
"Mom what will you do if get a job in a different country and decide to leave Suddenly?"
Zara mom looked at her wondering why she asked such a question.
" Never mind Mom." Is something bothering you Zara dear?"
" No Mom everything is fine." Zara assured her mom.
....
"Actually Mom, I have something to tell you. But it's not easy to say." Zara took a deep breath, unsure of how to continue.
"You can tell me anything, sweetie," her mother said, her hand on Zara's. "You know I'll always listen and support you, no matter what." Her mom said with an assuring smile.
" Dad left Zach university fee with me before he died." Zara confessed with her heart pounding in her chest wondering if she should continue.
Zara swallowed, as she continued her eyes filling with tears she said. "And Mom, .....I've decided to leave Brazil."
There was silence for a moment, and then Zara's mother spoke. "Zara, why? Is something wrong? Is this about the debts?" Millions of question ran across Zara mom's head wondering what could be the cause of her daughter decision.
Sis what are you saying? Why are suddenly leaving home and when are you leaving?" Her brother Zach asked feeling sad about the sudden new for his sister.
Zara's mother is still looking at her, waiting for an answer to her question. Zara takes a deep breath, gathering her courage. "I have see a job opportunity in New York, Mom. It's a great opportunity, and I can't pass it up. But I know it will be hard to leave you and Zach. But I just hope you can understand."
Her mother's eyes filled with tears. "Oh, Zara! If that's what you want then I understand, besides if you have made up your mind that surely means this is a very wonderful opportunity for you."
Surprise at how understanding and how quick her mom digested the new truly surprised her that she couldn't help but hug them both as they cried their hearts out but then Zara's cell phone rang interrupting the moment.
Zara picks up her phone, and sees there's a text message from her best friend, Malissa. The message reads, "Zara, have you heard the news! Lonnie and Justin broke up. I mean after all the things they did to make WE THE SINGLE jealous can you believe it? What are you doing? I can't believe you haven't heard about this!" Lisa said in her text really emphasising on her word the "we the single." Zara stirred at the message and looks at her mother, who is still watching her with sad eyes.
" Mom her's calling. How can I tell her mom when she's this happy? What should I do?" Zara asked her Mom in helplessness.
" I don't know dear but talk to her I'm sure lisa will understand who knows." Mrs will replied her daughter.
"Good night dear, sweet dreams." she added as she watched Zara walk into her room.
In room, Zara takes a deep breath and answers the phone. "Hey, girl seen your text are you sure about such news? Zara asked.
Zara what's wrong? Is something going on that I'm not aware of? Are you keeping me in the dark about something I should know?" Malissa asked feeling something was going on.
" What do you mean? Off course nothing is going on... I mean still the same old boring stuff." Zara assured lisa.
" Ohohoh please keep the fake act for your Mom and does who don't know you. Zara I have been your best friend for more than 16years now and I know you in and out. So please don't lie to me what's really going on?" Lisa spoke with a comforting voice.
taking a deep breath Zara paused, trying to gather her thoughts. And then said. "I'm glad you called. And yes there's something I need to tell you...the thing is that I..... It's just... hard to say." Zara said finding it difficult to bring herself to tell her the truth.
" Come on just say it. How hard can it be? And besides trust me I can take any bomb you decide to throw at me." Malissa assured her.
" Okay here goods nothing....I've been offered a job opportunity in New York, and I'm thinking of taking it. But it means leaving Brazil, you and my family." Zara paused, trying to gather her thoughts. There was silence on the other end of the line, and Zara's heart sank.
Then, Malissa finally spoke. " Well that's a big bomb I never saw coming."
" But beside that, Wow, Zara. That's a really big opportunity. And you know I'll support you, no matter what you decide. So have you made a decision? AND is mrs will okay with it?" Malissa asked.
" Yes, surprisedly she took all in quickly." Zara praised in amazement.
" Then that's settled I also give you my full support." Lisa said.
"I know you'll support me," Zara said, a little relieved. "It's just... it feels like I'm abandoning you and my family. My mom's taking it really hard, yet acting all strong and same goes to you. AND I don't know what to do." Zara said and Malissa was quiet for a moment, then she said, "Well, Zara, I believe that both mrs will and I believe and think you need to follow your heart. So we understand you and why you made such Hastily decision. And besides we know you won't forget about your family. But I do have one condition and the condition is that you will always find away to stay connected to us, even if you're far away!"
Zara felt like the most luckiest person on Earth as she nodded, even though Malissa couldn't see her. "I promise will do my best." Zara assured Lisa.
"Thanks for being so understanding, Malissa. You're the best friend I could ever ask for," Zara said, her voice full of emotion. Malissa's voice was soft when she replied, "You're the best friend I could ever ask for, too. And you know I'll always be here for you, no matter what." Zara's heart swelled with gratitude. "I know, liss. I'm so lucky to have you in my life."
"And I'm lucky to have you in mine," Malissa said. "Now, enough of this heavy stuff! Let's talk about something more fun.
Malissa perked up, ready to switch gears. "Okay, tell me about the latest gossip I told you earlier! Who's dating who? Do you think this is a joke or a scandal or is it real? I can tell you all I heard if you wish to know all the juicy details!" Zara laughed. "Oh, lisa! You're incorrigible!" But she was happy to indulge her friend's request.
They spent the next hour chatting about the "Latest" gossip, sharing laughs and forgetting about the more serious topics for a while.
Finally, Malissa said, "Okay, Zara, as much as I love talking about celebrities and gossip, I think it's time for us to get real again. Tell me, how are you really feeling about moving to New York?"
Zara sighed. "I'm nervous, of course. But also... excited? There's so much opportunity there, and I know it could be a really good thing for me. But I can't help but feel a little bit sad about leaving my family and friends."
Malissa nodded, understanding. "That's totally normal, Zara. It's okay to feel both excited and sad at the same time. It's a big change, and it's okay to feel conflicted about it. Do you have any plans for how you'll stay in touch with everyone?" Zara nodded. "I've been thinking about that. I know I'll need to make time for regular phone calls and video chats. And maybe I can plan trips back home, so I don't feel so far away." Malissa smiled. "That sounds like a good plan."
As they chatted, Zara's phone beeped with a text message. It was from her friend, Max. "Hey Katie, I heard you're moving to New York! Congrats! When you going to tell me the big news? Oh I know when you are in New York right?" Zara read the message out loud to Malissa, and they were both surprised at the fact that Max had known about her departure but after realizing who must have told him they both laughed.
"I guess Zach is really quick at sending word out," Zara said.
"Does that really matter I know you wouldn't have told me if Zach didn't. Why do you like keeping me in the dark? Why I'm I the last to always get informations or news? It's not fair." Max complained.
Sorry Max I didn't mean to keep you in the dark regarding this news for a long time at least until I had a decision. I'm so sorry please forgive me and besides I just told everyone including Zach who told you just today. So please don't get mad at me." Zara asked.
If that's the case I forgive you then so how do you feel about living home so soon? I mean if I'm not mistaking you are departing tomorrow right? Are you nervous? Or excited" Max asked his friend with concern.
"I'm both nervous and excited, Max. But mostly, I just hope you'll visit me! When you are free." Zara added.
Max replied, "Of course I will! I can't wait to explore the Big Apple with my crush. But seriously, I'm proud of you for taking this chance. You're so brave!" Zara felt a rush of affection for her friend.
"Thanks, Max. I appreciate that. You always know just what to say." Max texted back, "That's what I'm here for! I'll be your hype man, cheering you on from afar." Zara smiled. "I couldn't ask for a better hype man. Now let me get back to talking to my best friend, Mal!" Max replied, "Okay, okay! Byeee. I'll leave you two to gossip. But remember, I'm always here if you need me, Zara! 💖" Zara's heart swelled. "I know , Max! Talk soon!" And with that, the two friends signed off, leaving Zara to continue chatting with Malissa. "That was so sweet of Max," Malissa said.
"He's such a sweetheart, isn't he? But enough about Max - let's get back to girl talk!" Zara laughed. "You're right! Let's chat about something fun and lighthearted." Malissa clapped her hands together. "Okay, let's play a game! I'll give you three words, and you have to make a sentence out of them. Ready?" Zara nodded. "I'm ready!" Malissa grinned.
"All right, here's your first three words: cat, bathtub, pizza." Zara laughed. "This is harder than I thought! But here goes nothing: A cat accidentally falls into a bathtub filled with pizza." Malissa burst out laughing. "Oh my gosh, that's hilarious! Okay, here's your next three words: banana, umbrella, helicopter." Zara thought for a moment, then said, "A banana gets caught in the blades of a helicopter-mounted umbrella." Malissa was in stitches.
"You're a natural at this game!Hahaha! All right, your next three words are: traffic light, dinosaur, astronaut. Zara paused, then said, "An astronaut gets stuck in traffic because a dinosaur is using the traffic light as a chew toy." Malissa was almost crying with laughter. "I can't stop laughing! Okay, next words: microwave, flip-flops, traffic cone." Zara was on a roll.
"A traffic cone gets stuck in a microwave, and a pair of flip-flops tries to save it!" Malissa was cracking up. "Oh my gosh, I can't believe how good you are at this! Okay, here are your next three words: toaster, rainbow, library." Zara took a deep breath, then said, "A library full of rainbows gets toasted by a rogue toaster!" Malissa couldn't contain her laughter. "These are the best sentences I've ever heard! All right, one more round!
"No Lisa I have to sleep got an early flight to catch so no..gosh grow up. Anyway thanks for everything love you."
" Hahaha, no need to be grumpy! I'm just trying to keep you entertained. Thanks for hanging out with me. I love you too! Have a safe flight, and get some rest. Goodnight!" Lisa texted and went offline.
String at the text messages, Zara couldn't help but feel great full for having a friend like Malissa and Max. As her thoughts went back to how she got the job opportunity that is about to change her life.
....
Few hours earlier
"Mom I'm stepping out for a while." Zara yelled as she walked out of her room into the living room.
"With casual outfits? Anyway be back early to make dinner okay?" Mrs will replied back.
"Sure Mom." With that Zara walked out of the house.
....
Walking on the street of indiana on a Sunday day and searching for a job vacancy was the hardest thing one could ever think of.
" Why is this so hard?" She asked on one in particular as she kept walking in search of a job.
" God please I know I don't pray to you but please grant me a job pleasee!!" She prayed inwardly as she walked towards a building.
Walking towards the building she only pray for her lucky star to shine; reaching the building a sweet smile plaster on her lips looking at the big screen that displayed the word in bold letters
" JOB VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF AN ASSISTANT TO THE GENERAL MANAGER....." Not waiting to read Forder she couldn't help but jump and scream for joy
" Thank you... Thank you... For answering my prayers you're the best." She couldn't help but say out loud. Many passerby couldn't help but look towards her as though she was losing it.
" Yes .... Yes ... Keep looking at me I've lost my mind." She screamed as she wiped her tears not knowing when she started crying.
After a while of rejoicing Zara decided to walk into the building and approaches the receptionist and says, "Hi, I saw the advertisement post on the board side, I'm very interested in the position. Is there someone I could speak to about it?"
The receptionist stirred at her in confusion for a while but then she smiles and says, "excuse me miss please can you kindly go read the notice right outside so you can get detailed information because there seems to be a misunderstanding."
Zara stirred at the receptionist strangely but then nervously decided to go read the post while telling herself to stay calm and confident.
Right now she is Staring at big screen to know when the interview was, her smile and confident quickly faded into that of anger and hatred towards the company as she kept staring at the screen with words were written in bold letters;
" VENUE @ XwZ Corp, New York City." Just the site of these words kill her to the point she felt like crying.
"These people are crazy... Who do they think they are?.... Do they think money falls from the sky or grows on trees?" She asked on one in particular as she pulled her hair in frustration.
"Gush this is so frustrating what am I supposed to do now?..... I asked for a job not a tour.." She yelled at the building. " What I'm to do?"
Zara turns to leave, feeling dejected and disappointed. But then, the receptionist calls out to her, "Wait, miss! Before you go, there's something else you should know." Zara stops in her tracks and turns back to the receptionist.
the receptionist says, "I know the location of the job might be a problem for you, but there's something else you should know. The job comes with a relocation package that will cover some of your moving expenses. So, if you're interested, the location of the job shouldn't be a problem." Zara's eyes widen in surprise.
See her interest the receptionist continued. "And the job also comes with a generous health insurance package, along with paid vacation and sick days. So, it's really a great opportunity. And there's more as you know this branch in New York City is a newly built one and company is expanding rapidly and is looking for new talent. So if you are able to get the interview there is a great possibility of getting a high position in a few years from now and each position comes with amazing packages." After hearing all that the receptionist said Zara's mind began racing with so many possibilities.
After taking a deep breath Calm her racing heart and she looks the receptionist in the eyes. "I'll do it," she says. " I'll take the interview in New York. I'll do whatever it takes to make this work." The receptionist beams at her. "That's wonderful! I'm so glad to hear that. Do you have any questions for me before you go?" Zara nods, her mind racing. "Yes, I do have one question.
"Do you think I'm qualified for this job? I know it's a really great opportunity, but I'm just not sure if I'm the right person for it." The receptionist smiles reassuringly. "I wouldn't have offered you the interview if I didn't think you were qualified. So, don't doubt yourself. You're more than capable of this." Zara feels a wave of relief wash over her. She thanks the receptionist and heads home to start her preparations.
..Flash back ends...
Zara feels a mix of emotions - excitement, nervousness, and determination. But mostly, she feels grateful for the opportunity. She knows this could be a huge step forward in her career. But she also knows it won't be easy. There's a lot of work ahead of her. But she's ready for the challenge. She thanks God for sending the receptionist and decides to call it a day
