Chapter 1 - Summoning

Some of us are all born as a normal human being, devoid of any sort of power that could alter ones fate. Not even a glimpse of such extraordinaries can be seen since we live in a world of logic.

A world of logic cursed by the Gods.

According to the history of my professor, we were condemned by the gods. Thrown to the most vile world just to suffer their wrath. However, maybe because we are stubborn motherfuckers, we endured, we survived.

And despite all the blessings we were not fated to have, we were able to advance... And yet along the way, we still wished that someday we will be seen and forgiven by praying, serving, and worshipping those who abandoned us.

My name is Magnus, i am an astrology student of a known university in my city. The reason of having such course was something I didn't even know, perhaps I was simply taken by pity and the only choice I got is to take this underrated course.

And to my greatest luck of all unluckiness, I came to a situation where I have to utilize my knowledge.

"You have been summoned, my dear hero, please save us." the old hag said as she whips her staff up into the sky, chanting some useless shits even I don't understand.

But that's not even the weirdest thing. I don't care about what she does, what I am worried about is this place.

It stinks, it's dull, it's not an environment a person like myself would appreciate. Brick of stones make up the walls, the curtain was made out of linen and done as if the maker was a clumsy little fucker, and the old hag dress like a fucking beggar.

She's dressed in rugged cloak, and her white hair looks like it has not been washed for a little few centuries.

Was I kidnapped? Unlikely so, even though I am a dumb fuck, I have trained myself some few self-defense technique that could make a decisive result if I need so. So this people would probably be dead and I'd be in jail if they truly attempted to kidnap me.

Was I in some kind of cult? Unlikely either. Although I am an astrology student, I have no knowledge of astroly or whatsoever, joing a cult isn't something I would fancy. Hell, I don't even go to church nor believe in God.

"Where the hell am I?" impatient, I asked with animosity directed to them.

This caused a mass confusion of people that surrounds me. Even the old hag stopped her nonsense just to stare at me with baffled face.

I frowned.

Although I slightly appreciate the creepy attention, I very much like my question to be answered.

Suddenly, A person entered my view. A lady of probably high status, exited from the crowd and gradually approaches me while her porcelain white hand clench at each other's grasp.

She trembles as my eyes turn to hers. She's afraid of me it seems. This is much worse that I thought.

"D-dear hero... If I may, I'll answer your question. But first, I would like to ask you something."

My eyebrow raise, then furrowed. My question was being evaded by asking another question. Does these idiots think I'm like one of them?

Either way, it might be good to cooperate in this kind of situation so I'll allow her attempt. However, I will ask my question again after this.

"Go on."

"You... Are you aware of your sudden appearance on this hall?"

"No... What?" what kind of question is that?

"I see. So it seems, now let me answer your question. You have been summoned in this world, dear hero. You received a calling and you appeared. Now, you have been tasked to help us stop the atrocities and tyranny of the great evil King of the south."

"Wait wait wait... What?!"

Is this lady crazy?! Does she also have some sort of mental illness that makes her disillusioned and forget reality?

"You... That old hag said the same, but now you want me to think I came here on my own and so I have the obligation to help you? Are you onto something or what?"

"Ah!"

Surprised, the lady's eyes widen. She seems shock, but moments later she realize something was off.

"Oh! I apologize for the misunderstanding, dear hero! Of course, I have never intended to make you think as such. That's why I am here."

"You are here?"

"Yes. To properly introduce myself, I shall give my name. I go by Lyna Von Weiss. Daughter of the countess Weiss and saintess of the her Benevolence, Quiana, the goddess of creation.

You have been given the calling, and so do I. In exchange for your help, the goddess have instructed me a few things.

One is to accompany you, give you your needs, and help you in your journey towards the better future.

Two is to ensure your utmost safety in this world. Though few would dare hurt the hero, there is always a chance such thing would occur.

Three is, to give you the wish you will need after defeating the evil king. No matter what it takes... even returning to your world will be plausible."

Hmm... I raise my left brow, held my chin, then think through the words she utter.

"Of course, dear hero was also bestowed upon by the goddess a few skills and unique magical spells that fits your personality. You can even summon your weapon by simply thinking of the things that you always liked to wield."

Damn.

Are they some sort of die hard cult?

Fuck it.

I'll just play along with these shits for now. I have no clue about their so called goddess but it would be a reasonable thing to fear such highly respectable figure, to the point of creating a cult and having such a huge number of people.

"Okay."

Scythe.

A weapon that reap souls from the death. It was the weapon I used to think everyday ever since I saw it from a game and how its mechanics works.

Despite its size, even bigger that a great sword, it can be swing with ease. Despite it's curve blade, it can pierce and slash through most flesh. Despite its fragile looking grip, it can withstand even a thousand ton of weight.

A weapon bigger than a human, a tool used to reap and guide the souls.

*bang*

Immediately after I finished thinking about the weapon I desired. Something came from above, and came crushing through the ceiling of this weird medieval-looking place.

It pierced the roof as if it was made off paper and landed on the floor beside me.

The thing that landed has curved blade, imbued by the beautiful royal color of violent. It screams of discomfort to others it seems, but to me, it calms me. As if this thing will be something that will protect me from my life and beyond.

It was the scythe I imagined. The scythe that I have always think of when I was a child.

A deadly weapon for others, but the violet flowery embroidery at the other side of the scythe is lovely.

*bang*

Then again, suddenly, another one crushed through the roof, landing onto the ground, piercing the floor in order to stay standing.

When the smoke soon faded to nothingness, there I saw it.

"Edelweiss?"

A pure white sword, with white blade and grip embroidered by white petals of the known edelweiss.

The sword I used to imagine that would be on par with the scythe I named Cynthia.
