Chapter 8 - "If I can't have you, nobody will"

Charlene, wait up," Hazel called out, rushing after her. "Gosh, you walk too fast," she complained when she finally caught up with Charlene.

"I think I'm hallucinating. Those eyes..."

Charlene muttered.

"Okay, I'm lost. Which eyes?"

Hazel murmured and sat on a bench.

"Once upon a time, someone offered me a handkerchief to wipe my tears. His ocean blue eyes were so unique, I could recognize them anywhere.

Minutes ago, I saw the same pair of eyes, but instead of being cheerful, they were cold,"

Charlene mumbled.

"You're weird," Hazel scoffed.

"That's all you have to say?"

Charlene asked.

"Maybe you're really hallucinating, or just confused. Anyone could have blue eyes," Hazel shrugged, knowing who Charlene was referring to, but what she wasn't clear on was what transpired between her and the blue-eyed fellow.

"I know what I saw, Hazel. What are the chances two people will have exactly the same blue eyes?"

Charlene asked.

"So that's why you ran out of the auditorium like someone being chased? How dramatic," Hazel rolled her eyes.

"I hate you. I wish I never birthed you. Because of you, I lost the only person I ever loved. Now your evil powers are manifesting."

"Just leave, go away. I don't want to ever set my eyes on you again. And just so you know, you'd never have peace."

These words kept ringing in Blake's mind as he sat down, sipping slowly from his drink. He ruffled his hair and sighed in frustration.

"For how long will your words continue to haunt me? Can't you just forget about me?"

He chuckled, pain obvious in his chuckle. He held tightly onto his tumbler as memories from his childhood flooded his mind.

"Get out of my head," he mumbled amidst gritted teeth, transferring all his frustration to the tumbler, and without warning, it broke.

Everyone seemed too busy to notice what was going on with him. But Layla didn't fail to. She wanted to be by Blake's side, to comfort him and assure him that everything would be fine. She wanted to assure him that whatever he was battling with would be history. But her legs failed her. They weren't willing to take her to Blake, not after he disgraced her publicly. She just sat in the corner, sulking.

Blake sighed for the umpteenth time as he stared at his palm, which was beginning to wound as a result of the broken glass that pierced into it.

Suddenly, green light began emanating from his palm, and without warning, the glass cuts healed up. He began chanting a few words, and within the blink of an eye, the pieces of the broken glass came together to form another tumbler.

(Back in the human world)

Pearl sat alone in the cafeteria, picking at her food slowly, with a lot of thoughts running through her mind. So lost she was in thoughts that she failed to realize someone else had joined her.

"Hi, Pearl," the unfamiliar voice said, snapping her out of her deep thoughts. Slowly, she looked up and found a pair of caramel brown eyes staring at her, but there was something about the look she couldn't decipher. It was as though his gaze was piercing her soul.

"Hey, Pearl," he said again, louder this time.

"Hi... you know my name," she replied amusingly.

"Yeah, we're in the same grade. I'm Smith J. Smith. See ya around," he winked, flashing her a bright smile before walking away. It was then that Pearl realized he actually had guards trailing behind him.

"Smith J. Smith," she mumbled and diverted her attention back to her food.

"Really, well I'm here now, and if I don't have you, no one else will," an unknown smirked, watching from a corner.
