Chereads / Red Chrysanthemum / Chapter 2 - Prologue

Chapter 2 - Prologue

It was a long day of work at the boxing club, and nothing unusual happened, till a man around forty approached me as i was walking out of the building. I politely replied to anything he asked, then out of nowhere our conversation took a weird turn.

"I know you have a boyfriend. His name is Alexey, isn't it?" His smirk confused me and I remained silent. I would have told him to mind his own business, but the boxing club needed more members, and he had a son- as he told me- that wanted to be enrolled.

"You do. I saw you few days ago walking hand in hand with the boy around the center of the city." He took one step closer and shoved his phone right in my face. The picture of me and Alexey was real. We had our last date few days before.

The man wasn't bluffing, and the question that was pestering my mind, made me anxious. What if he wanted something from Alexey or me? There was no way he stalked us for no reason.

"What do you want?" My voice resonated with a tinge of anger, while I took one step behind. We were still in front of the building and if people saw me hitting this man, the reputation of the club would have been ruined.

"I want you to be more careful, little girl." His smirk still pestered me no matter how much I was trying to keep my cool .He continued in a know-it-all tone," Alexey, is not who you think he is."

The words shocked my to the core. I bit my lower lip, hoping that this man was lying. But I couldn't deny the fact that I knew Alexey for a short period of time. Maybe this man was right, I thought to myself.

The leather jacket he was wearing is grabbed with his left hand and his right hand dug in his pocket revealing a folded piece of paper.

"I know you don't trust me; a stranger. Go and see for yourself." He placed the piece of paper in my hand and turned on his heel, not waiting for my reply. As if nothing happened I was left alone, while this man vanished in thin air.

With my heart racing I couldn't wait and ran to the place that was dully noted on the paper. Since I was little , my trust in humans was easily shaken. Part of it was because my parents abandoned me at the orphanage. And the other part was that many people lied to me during the years I lived.

I had to see for myself if the man I loved was lying to me or not.

Screams and yells were heard from a parallel street, near the location I got. Trailing the alley separating the two principal streets, I let myself be led on by the screams.

Mafia had to be involved. I couldn't have mistaken the sounds of men driven by sheer rage and anger.

And I was right! Before my eyes there was a full fledged fight between two gangs; Italians and Russians. Swears and words directed towards each other were enough to realized their ethnicity.

Blood and bodies on the ground, as many others were still engaged in the war. I took one step back, prepared to leave, but when my eyes laid on a particular man, I froze.

Alexey....

This cant be true!

My heart stopped beating when i saw his clothes crimson, while blood was dripping off his fists. He punched another man and another one. He took one dagger from his opponent and sliced his throat. Then as he was searching for another target, his eyes spotted me.

Both of us seemed to shock to speak or move. Fear ran down my spine , making me shiver and unable to do anything. Time froze and I could just watch. I wished that this was a dream.

I had a reality check when something very heavy hit my head and I could see Alexey's face terrified watching me, as I was falling down. My vision got blurred and soon anything I was able to see was pitch black.
