Xinyan yawned as she went into the station. As expected, Yuze was talking to the victim's mother. She placed his medication on his desk when she entered his office. Xinyan looked around his office before exiting. She wanted to sleep on his couch, but she pinched herself instead. Sometimes, pinching oneself is an alternative idea of keeping oneself awake.
She stretched to keep her blood moving and pumping.
After Yuze finished talking to the mother, Officer Han took her home and they will notify her once they get the updates. For now, everyone did not know who was behind this. All they could do was to ask everyone who knew the victim and go from there. Yuze went back to his office to get some water to drink when he saw Xinyan reading one of his books.
"Xinyan..."
"I-I'm sorry. I know I wasn't supposed to touch your books. I'll put them back now and I'll go." Xinyan placed the book back, but before she could leave, Yuze held her hand out of the blue.
"Officer Jiang, this isn't appropriate. Is it?" Xinyan was speechless as Yuze rested his head on her shoulder. She didn't even know where to place her hand.
"Just let me stay this way for a while. My head is killing me." Xinyan gently felt his forehead, and it was burning hot. Xinyan sighed and carefully led him to the couch.
"You really shouldn't have eaten spicy food tonight." She replied and Yuze whispered, "Xinyan.. just leave me be. I'll handle everything." Xinyan sighed and muttered to herself.
"Handle everything? My ass." Xinyan couldn't leave him alone since he was sick. After getting his medicine and water, Xinyan did not see there was a book on the ground.
"Ah!" Xinyan accidentally tripped and their lips suddenly touched. Both of her hands were on the sofa while the water spilt on the ground. Xinyan quickly got up and organized herself. She cleared her throat and said, "This-This was an accident. I'm sorry. I'll leave your medicine here." Yuze couldn't believe what had just happened. He touched his lips while he watched Xinyan going outside. He slowly formed a smile on his face.
As the next morning arrived, Xinyan washed up quickly, then headed for the cafeteria. As expected, she did not see Yuze at all. Guess he's still sick, she thought. She headed to the porridge and soup section and got some for Yuze since he needs to eat well and recuperate. After a few seconds, she felt a hand on top of her head.
"Who is it?" She turned around and blushed immediately after he saw Yuze. "W-Why aren't you resting? I thought you had a headache."
"Is that for me?" His finger pointed at the porridge, and she nodded. "Since you're here, here you go. I'm going to get my breakfast now." She hurried away because she could feel her face burning up. Yuze smiled. Officer Lu, who was with him the whole time, witnessed everything.
"Wow, I never knew you guys were so close. Miss. Zhang is really thoughtful." Officer Lu looked happy for his team leader., but Yuze looked at him, unimpressed.
"Are you finished?"
Officer Lu's expression changed immediately and nodded.
"Eat your breakfast quickly. We're going to have a meeting in half an hour." Yuze got himself a healthy meal while Officer Lu was still in shock.
"This is my first time seeing him having breakfast." He talked to himself as people around him were waiting for their turn.
Yuze walked over and sat at another table. His eyes automatically turned to Xinyan who was smiling at something. It was something about her smile that he finds it alluring. He touched his lips again and Officer Han was looking at him weirdly.
"What are you thinking about, Team Leader?" He asked.
"Nothing. Don't be late for the meeting." Yuze quickly finished his breakfast, then went to his office. Officer Han nodded while thinking there was something wrong with Yuze.
"Something is definitely wrong with our team leader."
Half an hour later, all of Yuze's team members met in the meeting room. They did a simple debriefing of what happened last night. Yuze got some updates from another team member and they wrote about everything they have on a whiteboard. Xinyan tried to pay attention to Yuze when he was debriefing, but all she could do was to play with her pen while thinking about the accidental kiss from last night. She shook her head and tried to wake herself.
After debriefing, Yuze received a phone call from another officer. He wrote the location in his notebook and asked two of his members to check the place out. Apparently, this was the last location the CCTV camera saw the victim.
Xinyan and Yuze were together in the monitor room. There were plenty of screen monitors in front of them and they could see most of the traffic inside the city. Xinyan received a phone call from Officer Lu since Yuze wasn't answering his phone.
"Miss. Zhang, I'll send you the text message of the suspect's car. We found out that they kidnapped the victim. I tried calling our team leader, but he wasn't answering his phone."
"Okay, I'll let him know. Thank you." Xinyan tapped on Yuze's shoulder, then he turned to her.
"What is it?"
"Officer Lu sent a text about the suspect's car." She showed the text message to Yuze, and he asked the person in charge to look for a car. After several minutes, an alert showed up. It was the suspect's vehicle.
Yuze asked them to zoom it in and he called his team members, all the other officers, to stop the vehicle from exiting. He turned to Xinyan and asked her to follow him. They got into the car together and then drove to the exact location where the suspect's car was located. Even if the suspect wasn't in the car, at least they will know they were in the right direction.
Yuze drove the car even though his cough wasn't completely gone yet. Xinyan looked at him with a concerned expression.
"Officer Jiang, I can drive. You should rest since you're not fully recovered yet." She fidgeted with her fingers and then Yuze turned to her.
"Are you worried about me?"
