Chapter 1 - The pinnacle.

Pinnacle

Noun

The most successful point.

Throughout history, people have always strived to be the best, the greatest. To reach the 'Pinnacle' of their field.

Astor Margrove Drevon was someone who had strived to be the best of his own chosen field, magic.

Born in the great Noble house of Drevon, Tenth son of Great Duke Trivson Harvard Drevon, Astor had been a lonely child. The last child of the Duke, he never received much attention, of course that was understandable.

Astor knew his parents loved all their children, always trying to emphasis with gifts and such. But, the sheer number of children made it impossible for this love to be shared out equally.

When Astor was a baby he had been spoiled, adored even. Though once he was old enough to do things by himself this faded.

Left in the care of the servants, Astor had surprisingly found a passion for reading once he learnt how to.

The Duke's library was immensely large, filled to the brim with endless books and scrolls and more importantly, Magic Tomes. It was mere curiosity that lead him to reading 'Basic Magical theory by Harvard Grimson Drevon, Volume 1'

Who wouldn't read a book by their own Grandfather?

Astor had found everything incredibly curious, so he delved into book. Curiosity turned to obsession, and the young noble devoured all seven Volumes created by his Grandfather.

There was one thing left to do, put those theories into practical use.

In the Godfiend kingdom, known as the kingdom of mages, The former youngest magic user was Seven years old, Astor beat him by two years earlier, five years old. His reading abilities themselves were monsterous for his age, but performing magic was just wild.

Eventually, his family learnt of his skills. He was hailed a genius among geniuses and became quite popular in the kingdom. Using his status as a genius, he requested to avoid troublesome activities like mingling with other noble children.

Why?

He had the social skills of a Brickwall.

He managed to use the excuse of studying to avoid doing any social for most of his life, until he turned seventeen.

At this point he was a magic monster, considerably skilled in all schools. He had planned to keep to this hermit life style to study of magic.

Though that changed when he was summoned to the Palace.

To make a boring story short, he and three others were prophesied heroes meant to save the world from a Demon King. Classic hero stuff.

Lillth Frill, from a Marquis family. Archer so skilled it was believed she could hit an insect on a different continent.

Her Highness Charlotte Grettith Greenfaith, Princess of the Greenfaith Kingdom. The Saintress said to be able to hear the Goddess as if she was right next to her. Master of Divine light. Similar to magic, except only those blessed by the Goddess could use.

Yes, Astor had been slightly jealous.

And the strangest of all, Jason. Not of Noble origin, but from the slums. The Hero. Blonde Hair, sparkling smile. If Astor hadn't done a secret blood test during their adventure he would've been certainly he was of noble origin. Jason was a swordsman, wielding a legendary blade so powerful its name couldn't even be said.

The four of them had been grabbed from their everyday lives and forced to party together, getting an hour of explanation before being thrown out.

At first, it was awkward. Luckily, Jason was just a ball of sunshine who managed to help them get along. For the first time in pretty much his entire life, Astor had a social life, and finally started to show his personality.

Which was considered quite vile.

He had the tendency to be extremely blunt, quick to annoyance and the mouth of a sailor.

After years of heart warming adventure they finally defeated the Demon King, got rewarded and went their separate ways...

Well, Astor did.

His other party members married each other, as well as a large amount of women who had met then along their journey.

Astor was 99% sure they were only together for Jason.

Astor was now quite literally a Force of nature, his magical abilities so strong he could single handedly fight an entire country. After defeating the Demon King, Astor's reward was the title of archmage and his own tower.

If Jason hadn't been there to cover his mouth, Astor would've cursed the King out, somewhat literally.

Two years later, at the age of 25, Astor hit the pinnacle of magic.

All those who knew wondered one thing.

'How did it feel?'

How did standing at the top of Magic feel, had knowing every secret of magic feel?

It was....

"Fuck, this is boring."
