The usually stern-faced Old Liu finally had a smile on his face and said, "You're a good seedling, not bad, not bad. I thought Li Delong gave me a gilded doll, but it turns out I was wrong. It seems I've stumbled upon a gem. Alright, from now on, you'll learn from me. I'll teach you everything I know!"
Ye Guang smiled and responded, "Thank you, Master!"
Old Liu waved his hand and said, "I can only teach you for a few days. I can't be your master. It'll depend on your own understanding and if you're willing, you can call me Teacher."
"Okay, thank you, Teacher."
With the conversation flowing, Old Liu and Ye Guang chatted about various topics, mostly with Ye Guang asking Old Liu questions about hosting. Old Liu patiently answered all of them.
They chatted for several hours, and by the time they finished, it was almost 10 pm. Those few hours of clarification greatly benefitted Ye Guang. Indeed, having a good teacher and discussing things with him was different. In just a few hours, Ye Guang's hosting knowledge improved by leaps and bounds. Much of what Old Liu said was based on his own experience, which couldn't be found in any materials.
Old Liu would be retiring soon, and he had already handed over his previous work to other staff members. If not for that, he wouldn't have had the time to chat with Ye Guang so much.
At 10:30 pm, Old Liu brought Ye Guang to the broadcasting room, where he explained to him and his assistant, Ma Tao, the various equipment and their functions.
There were many broadcasting equipment, big and small, each with multiple buttons and interfaces. It seemed complicated, but after Old Liu roughly explained them, Ye Guang had a basic understanding. In reality, there were only a few buttons that the host would use during the broadcast, and the operations were relatively simple. Additionally, there were assistants and stage crew outside, who played a pivotal role in the live broadcast. The host only needed to focus on hosting, while all other aspects were handled by the crew, assistants, and other staff members working together.
At 11:20 pm, the program was about to begin. Old Liu and the staff members were all in the broadcasting room, preparing for the show. Ye Guang helped out with miscellaneous tasks.
Outside the soundproof glass wall, Ye Guang and the staff members wore headphones. At 11:29 pm, the countdown started.
"Five, four, three, two, start!"
"On this starry night, at this moment, who are you missing? Or perhaps, who are you meeting? What kind of story is beginning or ending? A good story, especially for you.
Hello everyone, this is the JX Radio Deep Night Storytelling. I am your host: Bayi.
Next, let's listen to a story.
The story takes place in..."
Old Liu's tone was slow, his voice steady, magnetic, and his pronunciation and intonation were perfect. Ye Guang couldn't find a single flaw. He truly was an experienced host.
Ye Guang listened to Old Liu's live storytelling, but to be honest, he didn't find the story very interesting.
Old Liu's program was a story program that ran from 11:30 pm to 1 am, a total of one and a half hours or ninety minutes.
The program consisted of three segments. The first segment was thirty minutes of the host live storytelling, followed by five minutes of advertisements and music. During this time, the host could take care of personal hygiene. The second segment was the same as the first, thirty minutes of live broadcasting, followed by a five-minute intermission. Two segments of live broadcasting totaled sixty minutes, ten minutes of advertisements and music, totaling seventy minutes. The final segment lasted ten to seventeen minutes, during which listeners could call in, with music playing in between. However, because it was the late-night time slot, there weren't many listeners, and calls from listeners were even rarer. Most of the time, only music would play. At 12:57 am, the host would say a closing remark, followed by two minutes of music, and the program would end.
More than an hour quickly passed, and with Old Liu's farewell and the melodic music, today's broadcast came to an end.
Old Liu, who had finished the live broadcast, looked tired. After all, he was getting older and couldn't stay up late. He left the broadcasting room after greeting Ye Guang, leading to Ye Guang helping the stage crew, Old Wang, clean up the equipment.
Outside the TV station's main entrance, Ye Guang's father was already waiting in the car.
Ye Guang's family owned a black sedan called Anda, a domestic car that cost less than 100,000 yuan. His father didn't drive often, partly because he didn't have many opportunities to use it and partly because his mother was concerned about the cost of fuel.
Ye Guang got in the car, started the engine, and headed home.
"I told you not to come. It's so late, I could have just taken a taxi." Ye Guang said to his father.
"It's too late. Your mother is worried." his father replied.
"Come on, I'm a grown man now. There's nothing to worry about. Even muggers wouldn't dare to mess with someone my size." Ye Guang laughed.
His father snorted, "You're so cocky. One day, you'll have a lesson learned. When you're out, you still need to be careful."
During the ride, Ye Guang chatted with his father about his workday. When he mentioned Li Delong asking him to be on the show, his father slapped his thigh, "Hey, old Li is straightforward. Next time he invites me for a drink, your mother can't stop me."
"You just want to drink, don't you?" Ye Guang teased.
Upon returning home, his mother wanted to make some noodles for Ye Guang, but he declined. After freshening up, he went straight to bed. He was indeed tired from the day's activities.
He fell asleep immediately, but unfortunately, he didn't enter the world of dreams where he could meet the person he had been longing for.
The next day, he didn't have to work until 6 pm, so he had plenty of free time during the day. Ye Guang enjoyed a good sleep-in and was only dragged out of bed by his mother for lunch.
After lunch, it was still early for work, and his parents were busy themselves. Ye Guang felt bored and lounged on the couch, watching TV aimlessly. He tuned into an entertainment channel because his current goal was to become a star, so he needed to pay attention to the entertainment industry. After a whole afternoon of watching TV, he didn't come across anything useful. Of course, Ye Guang didn't know what was useful or useless. He was just killing time.
"Huang Yiran and Li Qinger show affection together."
"Li Sihua may join ZJ TV."
"Pop queen Liu Chiyin spotted in Nanchang."
"Young actor Lu Fan denies having poor acting skills."
...
He spent the whole afternoon reading boring entertainment news. At 5 pm, Ye Guang ate a little something and tidied himself before heading out to work.
He drove his father's Anda. His father rarely drove, and Ye Guang's workplace was far, making it inconvenient to rely on his father to drop him off and pick him up every day. So, his father waved his hand and handed him the car keys.
There was some traffic on the way, and by the time Ye Guang parked his car at work, it was already 5:55 pm.
Just in time.
He quickly walked into the JX TV building. As he entered, two women walked out, both wearing sunglasses and face masks. They were each wearing a trench coat, one tall and one short, passing by Ye Guang.
Ye Guang took two more steps, suddenly trembling all over, as if he had been electrocuted.
He abruptly stopped and turned around.
The two women, one tall and one short, walked away from him. Ye Guang's gaze was fixed on the tall woman, who had a slim figure and was wearing a trench coat. Her straight hair fluttered in the wind.
Ye Guang opened his mouth, his hand reaching out, wanting to call out to the girl.
But the words didn't come out.
Forget it. Ye Guang shook his head, glanced at the time, and realized he only had three minutes left. He had to hurry up and go upstairs to check in.
He turned around and quickly walked up the stairs.
The two women were heading towards the parking lot. The tall woman seemed to sense something and slowed down, almost stopping completely.
She turned around slowly, gazing towards the entrance of the TV station, but found nothing.
"What's wrong, Yan'er?" the woman next to her asked. She also stopped and looked in the direction Yan'er was looking, but saw nothing.
"It's nothing. It seems like I saw a familiar face," Yan'er said, her voice crisp and pleasant.
"Oh, then let's go. It wouldn't be good if someone noticed us," the woman said, pulling Yan'er along.
At 5:59:11 pm, a mechanical voice sounded, "Ding, check-in success." Ye Guang breathed a sigh of relief. "I've secured the 500 yuan perfect attendance bonus!"
Old Liu had already arrived, holding a cup of tea and slowly blowing on it.
"Hello, Teacher Liu," Ye Guang greeted with a smile.
"I'm here," Old Liu smiled back and nodded.
"Teacher Liu, after I went home yesterday, I thought about some questions. I want to consult with you later," Ye Guang said, sitting down and looking at Old Liu.
"Okay, it's a good thing if you're thinking. It shows you have high comprehension. Ask me anything you want." Old Liu agreed.
And so, Old Liu patiently taught Ye Guang for several more hours.
Old Liu's assistant, Ma Tao, initially wanted to discuss the script and tonight's program with Old Liu, but seeing how engrossed the teacher and student were, he wisely turned and left.
"You're learning very quickly. I've taught you almost everything I can. There's nothing else I can say. From now on, follow me closely, observe and learn with all your heart. In a couple of days, when everything starts to make sense to you, I'll let you try hosting the program! Also, if there's anything you need help with in the program group, help out wherever you can. Even though your primary role is hosting, it's crucial for you to understand all the different aspects of the program group. Learn more, observe more, and do more. Although my program's ratings aren't great and we've always been at the bottom, it still carries a certain reputation. After you start working with me, don't ruin my reputation!" Old Liu emphasized as the conversation ended.
