Chapter 1 - Prologue

001: Prologue

"How dare you kill my child?! I could have forgiven that you are only after my money. But to get rid of my child…how could you be so merciless?! Sera told me everything. Please stop with all the lies. Sign these documents and get the hell out of here," those were the words that broke her heart.

Loreen received divorce papers and accusations instead of flowers on her third wedding anniversary.

She was once a girl filled with dreams and ideals. She graduated university with flying colors and began working immediately.

Eager to chase after her aspirations, she took her masters while working. And right after, she began her doctorate while advancing her career.

But all of that changed with a single mistake. A single night with a stranger.

She had to stop pursuing her dreams when she became pregnant from a one-night stand with someone she did not know back then was Edric Doyle Harvey, the CEO of a huge company and a rich businessman.

Edric, with his principles and family virtues, took responsibility and married her.

However, Edric made Loreen stop her schooling, quit her work, and made her focus on being a housewife and becoming a mother.

Everything she would ever need was provided though, so she didn't need to worry her baby would go hungry. Since she was already pregnant, and pregnancy was even harder than she thought, she agreed.

She didn't love him, nor did he love her.

But the feelings budded and bloomed as time went by.

Yet, just when she thought everything was going well, how did they come to the point that he would furiously ask her for divorce?

Was it because a few months after their marriage, she had a miscarriage?

She was brokenhearted by it, but they thought trying again would bear fruit.

Or was it because years of trying and strict diet led to nothing?

It was their wedding anniversary, but upon arrival, her husband suddenly said she should sign these divorce papers.

The reason? Edric insisted she was a guiltless liar and a gold digger who went after him for his money and properties. He believed something he recently heard because someone who knew her since childhood was the one who told him.

Their unexpected marriage she had no choice but to accept due to his insistence suddenly became her fault.

Why did he believe other people's words instead of her?

Worst yet, how could he accuse her of aborting their child when he saw how much she grieved and suffered when she had a miscarriage?

Did he forget about what he, himself, witnessed because of someone else's words?

Or was that what he thought of her all this time?

Loreen had never been this disappointed in someone. After three years, she already had feelings for Edric and trusted him.

Is this how the marriage she spent years to nourish, end?

She did not want to sign it. It was all too sudden.

Three years of marriage with Edric gave her precious memories to treasure.

But does he treasure them too if he could do this on their wedding anniversary?

Worst yet, he believed other people's words instead of hers. And he wasn't giving her the chance to explain.

There more he talked, the more broken and disappointed she became. He was already set on it, so he was not giving her a chance to explain.

Loreen realized, there was no longer a space for her. Then, there's no need to insist.

She was not one to insist herself on someone who no longer wanted her.

"I'm signing these not because your claims are true, but because today, you broke my heart and disappointed me," she signed the papers and left their house that very day.

She did not accept the alimony he offered, nor took anything he had given her in the past.

"I'd rather die than live with your money," Loreen said as Edric kept insisting for her to accept the alimony he offered.

Who would accept that after all the accusations he threw at her? Wouldn't she be proving his point?

She didn't need his money nor anything from him. She would rather beg on the streets than be his obedient little housewife again.

She never needed to depend on a man for money before he came into her life, and she could return to that lifestyle just fine.

Loreen became a divorced woman on the same day of her third anniversary.

But life must go on.

Perhaps this was her ticket to freedom.

It was time to chase on the dreams she thought she would no longer be able to do.

To discover things, she did not know about herself.

Loreen was determined to live her life to the fullest and show her ex-husband that she was fine without him.

She wanted to show Edric she could live without him or his money. She will live her life to the fullest.

She stopped for three years. But she could continue chasing after her dreams again, right?

Loreen thought finding work was easy because she easily got accepted in the past. But reality was much crueler than she thought.

Should she accept do just any job so she would have a source of income?

Would she survive in the competitive world she had been withdrawn of for three years?

Still, she had her pride.

She would not depend on Edric ever again. Not after he easily discarded her after three years.

But then, she noticed something was wrong.

'200 calls and 100 messages. What the hells is wrong with this guy?!'

Edric was the one who betrayed and abandoned her, so why does he keep lingering around her?

Shouldn't he be happy that she simply left without taking anything?

Why was he using the alimony she did not accept to keep on pestering her?

Would she be able to leave him completely, when once again, she felt the beat of a life inside her? Something they had been waiting for, for years.

But she had learned her lesson, right?

Marriage was not the cure-all to sudden pregnancies.
