Jayden lay on the floor waiting for his death.
From nowhere a huge stick flew over his head and hit the wolf squarely in its eyes. The wolf howled in pain.
Jayden looked at the wolf confused about what had just happened. He felt someone pick him up and carry him in his arms and run away.
Jayden looked at the person carrying him, the person was dressed in black and wore a black mask.
The person stopped in front of a shed, Jayden looked at the shed, it was Lavender's shed.
Jayden was put down, the person opened the door and pulled Jayden inside before entering inside and bolting the door.
He helped Jayden sit on the bed before pulling off his mask, Jayden gasped. It was him, it was Lavender.
Jayden hadn't seen him in a long time and he had looked forward to seeing him again. He looked more handsome and his green eyes were still as vibrant as ever.
"Hey Lavender." Jayden said.
Lavender glared at him in response, "For the beta of a pack, you can be really dumb."
"Well, hello to you too."
"What were you thinking? Running into the forest when you damn well knew the shadow wolves were on the loose. You know they don't always differentiate between pack member or rogue. What if you had been killed?" Lavender questioned.
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay." Jayden grumbled.
"I would have been fine, I would have covered myself with charcoal and they won't have been able to scent me but thanks to your stupidity I had to go rescue you, now they are drawn here."
"How did you know I was in trouble?" Jayden asked curiously.
"Where did you tell Ryder you were going to?" Lavender asked him, expertly dodging his question.
Jayden suddenly became alarmed. "Oh no! He must be worried."
"Great, just great! Because of you, the wolves are already on their way here. Ryder already knows that I stay here. You are just a little bundle of trouble."
"I am sorry." Jayden whispered.
They heard the howls of the wolves and their snarls, they were in front of the door.
"Shhh!" Lavender said.
"Do you think that they can come in here?" Jayden asked.
"I don't know, for both our sakes, I hope they can't."
Lavender sat on the bed and lifted Jayden's injured leg on his. He examined the ankle.
"How did you even manage to sprain your foot this badly?" Lavender asked in a whisper.
"I tripped and fell."
Lavender shook his head at his clumsiness and slowly massaged the injured spot.
"I missed you, why did you never come out anytime I came?" Jayden asked.
"It was for the best. We didn't need to see each other."
"Why? I don't even understand anything, why did you even leave?"
Lavender looked at him, "I left because of you"
"me? What did I do?"
"You were always arguing with Ryder about how he was treating me. You are his best friend and beta wolf, I didn't want to come in between the both of you."
"What are you talking about? Ryder is my best friend but you are also my best friend and I would always defend you."
"I didn't want to put you in that position where you had to choose between both of us. Ryder needs you."
"And so do you, you also needed me. For the past years, you have been alone and I have always worried about you. You shouldn't have left, you should have let me choose." Jayden told him angrily.
"So you would have picked me over Ryder, is that what you are trying to say? We both know that is a fucking lie." Lavender yelled at him.
"You don't know that, you don't know what I would have done."
"Fine, let's leave."
"uh?" Jayden looked at him in confusion
"Let's leave the pack tonight, let's run away. You said you would pick me right?, now pick me."
Jayden looked at him speechless, he had no idea what to say.
"I knew it, you would never pick me." Lavender said bitterly.
"Lav...."
"Shhhh!" Lavender held his finger to his lips.
"What is it?"
"The wolves are no longer outside." Lavender said.
Jayden couldn't hear their sounds anymore. "What if it is a trap and they are waiting for us to come outside so they can kill us?"
"Shadow wolves aren't that smart, they have probably been called back by Ryder."
"He can do that with the help of a witch, he must have summoned Evena."
Lavender bent down and helped Jayden stand up.
"let's go." he said.
"Lavender, about..."
Lavender interrupted him, "Let's go before he tears this whole forest apart."
Jayden kept quiet as Lavender carried him piggyback out of the forest.
.....
Evena and Ryder successfully led the shadow wolves back to the house they were kept and locked the door. Then they went back to the forest.
"I am not seeing any trace of them, do you think that they are dead?" Ryder asked in worry.
Evena rolled his eyes and pointed forward, "Look that's them, they aren't dead."
Ryder watched as Lavender came forward carrying Jayden on his back. He reached them and put Jayden down.
"Hey Lavender, it's being a long time. Is it my imagination or you are even more handsome." Evena grinned at him.
Ryder looked at the both of them sternly. "What's wrong with you Jayden, why can't you walk on your own?" he asked Jayden.
"I sprained my ankle."
"You realize your decision was rash and foolish right, I am sure Lavender would have survived on his own, you just had to rush in and put the both of you in trouble." Ryder lectured Jayden.
"You two are really related." Jayden muttered underneath his breath.
"Let's go back home." Ryder said, the look on his face was scary so Jayden zipped his mouth shut and hobbled forward, Evena supported him so he wouldn't fall.
Lavender turned around to leave, "And where do you think you are going? You were included in the order."
Lavender remained standing, "I am your alpha and I command you to follow us home. Or am I no longer your Alpha?" Ryder asked.
"You are my Alpha." Lavender replied.
"Good, let's go."
And so the four of them went back to the pack house.
