Chapter 6 - 6" Fatal Accident

At a rate of 200km/hr, Lu Shen sped through the night. His hands were going through a steady rhythm of clenching and unclenching the steering wheel. His body was tense and rigid and his dark eyes could kill a person at that moment.

Of all the miserable things that had to happen that day- which was majorly spending a whole day with Chang Yang- Lu Shen hadn't expected to recieve a news like the one he just did. His base had been raided and goods worth over a million had been stolen. And his men had let them get away, how could they? That type of news could give someone a heart attack. He couldn't afford to lose so much. He was already running at a loss and now this. This was too much.

He swerved into the entrance of the Yulong bridge and his feet stepped on the accelerator. The car responded, speeding through the night. In his hurry, Lu Shen hadn't bothered to put on his headlights and when he did, he was already seconds away from colliding with another vehicle.

The loud sound of the crash pierced through the silence of the night, car parts flying in the air as they collided. Due to the speed of Lu Shen's car which had been the only one moving, Lu Shen was thrown out of the car. He landed limply at the edge of the bridge which was already broken, obviously from another accident. He was very close to falling off the bridge, any careless movement and he'd be falling over six feet. Luckily for him though, he was as good as unconscious. His head was bleeding and there was a sharp pain in the left side of his chest. His legs were numb and so were his hands. His eyes were almost closing but before they closed, they caught sight of another crashed car and even in his near-to-death state, he could recognize it.

It was Ah Cy's. He could tell it was hers cause he had given it to her himself as their first year anniversary gift. The image of her bright smile as he had given the keys flashed through his head and almost immediately, was replaced by blackness. Numbed blackness.

Chang Yang couldn't stop pacing in the huge living room. Her hands were sweaty, like it always was when she was nervous or worried. It was two hours since Lu Shen left the house. He wasn't picking up his phone and Chang Yang couldn't help but think. What if something had happened to him?

It was almost midnight, barely ten minutes. She didn't know if she was supposed to be up waiting for him, maybe he intended to come home the next day. Maybe she was just worrying herself for no reason. Lu Shen was totally fine, what could go wrong with him? He's THE Lu Shen. Nothing could hurt him. He'd always bounce back.

No need worrying for no reason, Chang Yang told herself. She took a deep breath and let it out. She decided to go on and sleep and wait to see what happens the next day. Taking another deep breath, she made to go to her room when a loud sound echoed through the whole house. It was her phone. Her racing heart which she had almost managed to calm down, began beating again, more furiously. Who could it be at this late hour? Was it Lu Shen? Could be! But he'd never call her, except it was something serious. Was something wrong?

With very unsteady steps, she walked to the table where her phone laid vibrating loudly. Her racing heart doubled it's pace as she saw an unknown number appearing on her screen. The call ended and almost immediately, began ringing again. Chang Yang hesitantly picked up the phone and answered the call.

" Good evening ma'am" a male voice sounded from the other side. " I'm calling from Yangshuo People's Hospital. I'm a Police officer, ma'am"

" It's almost midnight. What's wrong sir?" Chang Yang said as her brain thought of a thousand and one things.

" Are you Miss Chang Yang?" the officer asked.

" Yes… yes I am" She swallowed as she responded.

" Ma'am, pardon us intruding, may I know your relationship with Mr Lu Shen?"

" He's my fiance"Chang Yang responded hurriedly. She heard some whispers in the background and her heart skipped.

" What the hell is this about already?" She snapped. She heard the officer sigh heavily over the phone and his next words made Chang Yang's world shake.

" Ma'am, we're so sorry that we have to be the one giving this news. Mr Shen has been involved in a fatal accident at the Yulong bridge"

She stepped back unconsciously and her hand flew to cover her mouth to prevent a scream she was sure would come. Her brain could only process two words, "fatal accident ". Her worst fears were coming to pass. No, this couldn't be happening. This couldn't be happening. Not her Lu Shen.

" He's currently in the theatre but I must say his condition is very critical. We had to call you because your name appeared to be the first person on his recent calls. I'm very sorry again ma'am"

She couldn't respond. What could she say to that? Her other hand went numb and the phone fell loudly to the floor as her hand fell to her side. She took another shaky step backward and as if the whole world had just come crashing down on her shoulders, she crumbled to the floor.

" Ma'am, are you still there?" the person's voice sounded through the phone but Chang Yang was somewhere else. Her heart was being shattered.

The phone call was hung up and a loud scream found its way out of Chang Yang's mouth. Her hands went into her hair, destroying a half-an-hour hardwork in just seconds.

The tears finally made its way out but she furiously wiped them off. This was no time to cry! She was angry, enraged, mad… any word you could find to describe the boiling rage that was settling in her.

But who was she mad at? Herself? Or Lu Shen? Fuck it! If he had listened to her and stayed at home then he would have been safe. What was so important that he left at the time he did? It was just three days to their wedding, how could he be involved in an accident during that time? She wasn't going to stay here and cry. She was going to go to the damn hospital and give Lu Shen a piece of her mind. Conscious or not! She was going to pour all her rage on him. He caused it so he had to bear it. He had bear the whole damn weight of the anger she was feeling.

With a heavy heart, she rose from the position she was in and stormed into the room. She dressed up as quick as she could and left the house, the sound of her slamming the door loud enough to cause an earthquake. Who cared anyway? Her Lu Shen was in danger. She didn't care about anything else at that moment. Nothing else but her Lu Shen!
