I walked in with fast pace and started to look for her. I looked into dining room slowly checked everybody but neither Jess nor any of her friends was there so I started to look into smaller rooms and I got very scarred when I saw Brook in the kitchen . One Jess's friends she was visible shocked and not doing too well.
I ran towards her and asked her right away.
"Brook. Where is Jess?"
She looked at me. "You no longer even trying to hide it. Good for Jess. I don't know where she is. I was not with her. I was on the date with Chuck when this all happened. Chuck tried his hardest to protect me but there was too many of them. I ran and he died."
"I am sorry. Stay put in here, I will find Jess and come to get you. Ok?"
"mhmm!" She nodded.
"I am sorry but I need to find Jess. I will come with her. Be strong until then."
She nodded.
I stood up and started walking away to look for Jess elsewhere. I was maybe four meters away when I heard Brook.
"If you find her tell her that you love her, you dumbass. You never know when the shit outside takes one of you."
I turned to her and nodded. After that I turned back and started to walk in a brisk pace.
As I reached the exit Karla asked. "Did you find her?"
I shook my head.
"There is one more big shelter on the way to the bar. Hotel Espinosa. Teachers told me about it. Maybe she is there." Karla spoke.
"Thanks. I am going to check that out." I spoke.
"I am going with you Vic. I have highest chance of living through this shit when sticking with you."
"OK, did you used your stat points?"
She nodded. "I reached level six, distributed all the points and grabbed new axe here since the old one was a mess."
"OK let me spend my stat points and we are going."
I reached level 8 and I had 15 unspent points. I pumped 6 into agility and magic and three into constitution making new totals 26 for agility and magic and 18 for my constitution without the boost from weapon.
"OK done let's go."
We greeted the teachers and let them know that we will come back if we manage to find Jessica.
They nodded and wished us good luck.
After that we went on our way towards the hotel Espinosa. It was on the way to the bar where she went. And it was much closer to it than cafeteria so there was a bigger chance that she would be there.
As we walked far enough, I pulled the treasure chest and opened it. Again, the same thing happened and I got to choose the thing I need. I quickly picked up a decent looking twohanded axe so that Karla does not have to be raiding firefighter cabinets every time she fights.
Small chest disappeared and instead of it I was holding big axe.
"Here, you should be able to use it."
She grabbed the axe and looked it up.
"This is awesome, can I take it?"
"Didn't I give it you? I can't have you raiding the firefighter's cabinets after every fight." We both chuckled and continued to go.
Now that I looked at her it was a little comical. Karla was a petite girl with curves where they belong to, she was also rather short. With crimson red hair cut into a bob cut. So now that she was carrying a huge axe it was creating a sharp contrast.
I giggled a little.
"What's so funny?" she asked.
"A petite short beauty with a greataxe."
"So, you think that I am beauty. Good!"
"That's what you took out what I said?" I laughed as I told her that.
"Look my life went to shit during the last few hours, so let me celebrate minor victories. I am alive, getting stronger, with handsome men even if that men loves another woman but maybe just maybe he will be too horny before he finds her and I get to fuck him."
I froze as she spoke the last sentence.
"What? It's fucking apocalypse. I have played a good girl long enough. Its time to be myself. Do you mind that?"
"Not at all. I quite enjoy people being themselves. I was just rather surprised by the last part of that sentence."
"Sorry, maybe I am weird but after chopping bunch of ghouls and getting new axe I became quite horny. So, my mind slipped into gutter."
"Are you into S&M?"
"Nope, that's not it. Just something in me broke free as I was chopping those ghouls. I vented all my grief, anger and everything on them and it felt good. After that I got this new shiny toy and I was happy that I don't have to look for shitty axe after every fight. And then my body felt that it would be good to release the last frustration in me. I haven't had a man for quite some time so now that all the tension got taken care of it just came out. And since I decided to be myself, I just spoke my mind."
"Actually, makes sense. Honestly something similar happened to me. I realized only after that this shit happened that I love the girl I was friends with for some time."
"Yeah, near dead experience brings a level of clarity, same as chopping ghouls and sex."
We both laughed and headed towards the hotel.
We were about three quarters way to the hotel when we heard running. We hid in the dark when we saw three students running away from the hotel with all their might.
I didn't see any ghouls following them.
I stepped out of the shadows and headed towards them and they just screamed.
"RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!"
"What is going on?"
"HOTEL WAS ATTACKED BY MONSTERS! EVERYBODY IS SLAUGHTERED!"
They spoke as they ran past us. Next moment I saw shadow on the nearby roof that moved quickly and in no time jumped in front of the group of three students. It was not a ghoul. It was about two meters tall, very fast, covered by fur that looked very similar to hyena. And it had head of the hyena.
"MONSTER!"
The three screamed and turned to run back. Hyena like monster quickly ran up to one of them and with a quick strike of one if its claws beheaded him.
