Chapter 1 - Awakening

On the day of January 1, 2024, Alaric Khaos, an orphan, was sitting in the auditorium of the Institute of Med-Tech, where scientists combine medicine and technology and bring out the best of both.

He had gone through a grueling four years, achieving the top scores of every year while giving up on his social life, and working at a mechanic shop. Alaric had also barely slept over these four years due to studying, work. and research.

Alaric was 6'4", with a decent physique and decent looks.

Alaric worked to pay the medical bills his girlfriend, Ashe Noriko had accrued. His purpose in going to IMT was to find a cure for the incurable disease she was diagnosed with by medical professionals. The disease was called Kuru by one of best virologists in Terra, and the disease degraded the nervous system.

As the students were called up one-by-one by the Dean to receive their degrees, the ground started rumbling, the buildings started creaking, the wind started howling, and the oceans started bubbling.

A wave of pure energy burst outward from the core of Terra. Everyone in the auditorium keeled over, groaning on the floor, some writhing in apparent pain. The skin of the students writhing on the floor turned from white to a pale green, their veins turning black.

However, Alaric felt as if he had come home after many years, the energy feeling like a comfortable blanket. His back straightened, his eyes glistened, as he wondered if this is what a real home felt like.

Suddenly, a golden screen appeared in his retinas.

| Alaric Khaos |

| Bloodline - Chaotic Dragon |

| Level 0 - 0/100 XP |

| Health - 150/150 |

| Mana - 200/200 |

| Race - Human |

| Bloodline - ??? |

| Class - None |

| Title - Chaotic Sovereign |

| Beast Companion - Sealed |

| Strength - 15 |

| Agility - 10 |

| Stamina - 10 |

His brain was flooded with an enormous amount of information, giving him a slight headache. There was basic information about the system such as the average base stats of a peak athlete in all forms, which is 100 health, 10 for all 3 main stats (STR, AGI, STA) and 100 for mana.

Alaric was confused on why he had such high mana, health, and above average strength, but when he looked down further, he was dumbfounded. He had followed the law for his entire life and was very orderly and organized. Which begs the question: How did he get the title "Chaotic Sovereign?"

He exclaimed, "What the hell is a sealed beast companion?"

How could he have a sealed beast companion if he had just awoken? Furthermore, he had no recollection of having a beast companion at all. Why was it sealed in the first place?

After Alaric took in all the information, he looked around and saw his fellow students turn into green skinned, black veined monstrosities. He immediately knew that they were zombies who had failed to awaken and succumbed to the energy wave.

The zombies started to stand up and stumble towards the still living students. Alaric picked up his chair and bashed a nearby zombie that was still trying to stand up. The golden screen displayed | 10/100 XP |.

Alaric realized that killing zombies strengthened him ever so slightly along with giving some XP. Alaric then broke a leg off the chair, fashioning a crude club to bludgeon the zombies.

Abruptly, one of the zombies dashed forward heading towards Alaric. It was as if the zombie could smell his above-average lifeforce. It was lean, but not overly so. Alaric assumed that it was specialized in speed and not strength.

Just as the zombie was about to reach Alaric, it stumbled. Alaric jumped at the opportunity and swung the makeshift club at the zombie's head. The head burst like a watermelon, bits of brain and skull fragments shooting through the air.

The system, or so Alaric called the golden screen, showed | 60/100 XP |. Alaric had shot through over half of what he presumed as level 1.

Alaric dashed over to kill another zombie, but when he came to a stop, he was shocked. He felt as if he had covered the distance in but an instant, but that was impossible for any human, peak athlete or not.

Alaric put the thought in the back of his mind for the moment because the zombie he had dashed towards started lurching towards him. He shifted the club in his hands so that the jagged portion was facing towards the zombie and thrust the club forward like a spear.

The "spear" shot forward, piercing through the zombie's eye, puncturing its brain. The zombie collapsed, falling to the floor. As Alaric looked at the zombie still twitching in its death throes, he wondered why he didn't feel sick.

Alaric attributed the lack of nausea to his training in the Institute of Med-Tech, where they have to experiment on cadavers. In the practical exams for the final year, the students had to incorporate technology into soldiers to enhance their senses and combat power.

Alaric had passed with flying colors, but he internally felt that the exam was morally wrong. The grafting of non-organic materials to a living, breathing person never sat right with him.

As Alaric shook off the thought, he saw another student being chased by a horde of zombies. Although Alaric didn't have an overblown sense of righteousness, he still sprinted over and killed the horde. There were twenty zombies in the horde, but after Alaric killed them, he had only received 40 XP, bringing him up to | 100/100 XP |.

Alaric deduced that the stronger he was, the less experience he will get from enemies weaker than him. All of a sudden, the golden screen flashed saying:

| Choose Class |

| Spear Novice |

| Cudgel Novice |

| Blacksmith |

| Prince of Chaos |

Alaric did not particularly enjoy inflicting pain on others, either through breaking bones or rending flesh, and although he did enjoy hands-on activities, he did not want to base his future on supporting others if others never supported him.

Alaric also remembered his title | Chaotic Sovereign |, and he immediately knew what class he would choose.
