It all happened so fast.
Buffy was on her way to check on Angel because, even though she's hurt that he had a baby with Darla of all people, she knows how hard it is being a single parent. She watched her mom struggle after the move to Sunnydale. Having to deal with her daughter having a secret life, and not knowing what's going on with her. Buffy still cares about Angel. She'll always love him, and she wants him to know he has her support.
Suddenly, the road was blocked, and all the cars had to stop. She could feel something was not right about this, and pulled over so she could get out of the car. As Buffy walked closer, she saw cars surrounding a group of people. Her eyes instantly found Angel. He looked worried and scared. There were people with guns pointed at Angel and a man with a baby in his arms. Angel also has a gun pointed right back at the people pointing guns at him.
Buffy gets close enough to hear part of the conversation. "I will take good care of him, as if he were my own son. He'll never even know you existed. Don't come after me - you will though, won't you? Maybe I should just…" the man says to Angel as his hand moves towards the baby's neck. "No. Please." She hears Angel say to the man. Then it hits her. That's Connor. That's Angel's son the man is threatening. After Buffy hears Angel tell the man to take him, she starts moving closer. The Slayer is determined to save her ex-lover's baby from this man.
Then suddenly, a demon she didn't notice opens a portal. "What you are looking into is Quor'toth, the darkest of the dark worlds. So I can widen the portal and you can all be swallowed up by a world you can not begin to imagine, or you can keep your word and kill that child. Now!" she heard the demon say. When no one moves, the demon opens the portal wider.
The next thing Buffy knows, the man holding Connor runs towards the portal. Seeing his intentions, Buffy intersects him. She punches the man in the face, causing him to drop Connor. The Slayer catches him just before he hits the ground. When she stands back up, she feels a kick to her stomach and stumbles back… right into the portal. The last thing she hears is Angel screaming "NO!" before the portal closes behind her.
When Buffy catches her breath, she collects her bearings. She takes a look around, and all she sees is a red sky and dead plants everywhere. Then the Slayer looks down at the baby in her arms. Such an innocent looking face. Connor doesn't deserve this. He deserves to be at home with his father who loves him. Buffy makes a decision right there and then. She's going to give this kid everything she has to offer. Sh'e going to shower him with love and try to find a way out of here as soon as possible.
