Xavier trudged down the lonely street. It was dusk and he was just returning from detention wondering why his chaffeurs did not wait for him and consistently reminding himself to punish them as soon as he got home. His stomach churned in hunger and he closed his eyes, sighing.
"Almost home..."he mumbled to himself encouragingly, almost falling due to his stumbling progress."Almost..."
Suddenly,he stopped dead. His instincts kicked in, and he stared around sharply. He had a feeling that he was being watched, but there was no one in sight.
"Who's there?"
Silence reigned. The birds had stopped chirping and the setting dusk became more brighter.
"I can feel a presence"he mumbled,"a scary one".
The whole surrounding was quiet. Even the wind that blew around and rustled fallen leaves wasn't brewing, which was strange as it was mid- autumn. The silence was so eerie. Xavier looed around, stepping forward cautiously. Then he broke into a run,and disappeared from sight without even turning back.
Just then,a flaming figure whose brightness lit up the whole street, stepped out from a tree which shriveled up and burst into flames immediately. The figure looked around unsmiling, and then stared at his hands and body.
"He's the right one for me."
***************
Xavier ran right to the doorstep of his home(him and his mom precisely),and knocked frantically, forgetting the doorbell. Caroline, his mom pulled the door open, and he stumbled inside in his haste to get inside. He slammed the door shut and leaned heavily on it.
"Xavier"Caroline gasped, clutching her chest in fear"What's wrong?"
"Something.... someone is after me"Xavier spluttered, panting heavily."I was following the lonely Crescent street, when I felt it...I didn't see it,but I felt it".
Caroline watched her son stagger to a chair and collapse heavily on it. She was sure she knew what caused his fright, but she wouldn't reveal it...yet.
"Let me get you something to eat"she said, hurrying into the kitchen and emerging with a tray containing a bowl of steaming chicken broth, seasoned with carrots and Irish potatoes and a plate of white rice.
"Eat, Xavier. Don't let your dear control you. What was your father's last words before his death?"
"When the fear come, master it".
"That's right. Now eat, and always remember those words".
Wih that, she left him,and hurried away, climbing the staircase rapidly, and hurrying into her bedroom, located at the right wing of the lonely mansion . As soon as she closed the door, she sighed heavily and facing the open window, spoke to the night.
"Luman Hecate!"
At once, the walls of the room darkened and began to glow a deep plum colour, while Caroline's eyes changed colour,as she stepped back from the window, her irides deviating from it's normal green to plum. Simultaneously, another portal much shaped like a window appeared in the middle of the room. It shone bright green in the plum colour, and a man's face appeared in it,his long beard tied in gold ringlets. He had pure golden hair, and his eyes were purple. He was levitating in a meditative posture,so Caroline braced herself before speaking.
"Master!"
The man stared into her eyes and Caroline felt her courage melt away.
"I'm sorry for disturbing your meditating session, but something has happened, and I need your help urgently".
The master stared at her almost curiously.
"Is it your son?"
"Yes,my Lord"Caroline replied regretting why she had brought about this question.
"I told you the moment you married that angel that I won't have anything to do with his offsprings."
"Master, please it concerns-"
"Whether demons or angels,Narcissa I don't care."
"Uncle"Caroline muttered tearfully but the portal closed, and she fell to the floor, her heart-rending sobs sounding around the room.
"Mother?"
The moment Xavier put his hand on the door knob, the room returned to it's normal colour, and Caroline stretched her hand, and a picture of a white haired man with golden irides and pale white skin appeared in it,just as Xavier pushed the door open.
"I've told you times without number to stop crying over Dad"Xavier said, kneeling beside his mother and staring at the picture too. Xavier was an exact copy of his father."I will kill whoever killed him"he finished, his face set and determination. Caroline looked at him sadly. Only if he knew.
"I'm not crying over your father, Xavier"Caroline said, looking at him."I'm worried about you.You are special and in so much danger, but I cannot protect you alone. And my last hope has just forsaken me".
"What are you talking about, mom? Xavier asked remotely confused. Of course,he knew nothing about his parent's true identities, and was unaware of anything beyond the natural.
"I only need one more test"Caroline said to the silence." One more revelation, then I will tell you all you are meant to know... before now".
"Mother"Xavier asked, now worried at the possibility of Caroline having mental insanity"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Go to bed, Xavier"Caroline said, patting his head as her palm glowed plum, and all the thoughtful were wiped from his head. He stood up,his face bland and walked out of the room to his, which was next door. Caroline watched him go and broke into tears again.Standing up,she nearly collapsed but a pair of strong hands caught her by the waist, and helped her to her feet. She whirled around, catching the scent of her twin brother.
"Elon?"
Her twin smiled, impressed with his unnoticed appearances, and then folded his hands.
"I heard Shaboteth exchanging words with you and you were sounding desperate."he said seriously.
Caroline sighed.
"It's Xavier.He saw-"
"Why didn't you ask of my opinion first?"Elon asked sounding annoyed"or for help?"
"Mother told me that you were away at war against Zivox. So, I thought-"
"I returned yesterday. After wrecking Zivox's capital,I took his daughter and queen captive. The princes fled. So, what's the gist?"
"Today, Xavier returned late from school, completely freaked out about something. He said that he was been watched. Although I was watching him-"she gestured to an irregularly shapes portal hanging in thin air.Xavier was sleeping soundly in it from they could see-"I couldn't see anything".
" But you could feel it?"Elon asked, his brow hunched in thought.
"Sure enough. It's a demon enough to obscure himself from my anti-disillusioning magic, and he only emerged after Xavier had left -I kept watching. His aura was hot enough to melt my bracelets but Xavier didn't feel it, probably due to his angelic nature."
Elon was silent for a while, turning over the information in his mind.
"The same thing has happened to us."he said finally, making Caroline to olook at him in alarm.
"Seriously?"
"Positive"Elon said,as a throne made with velvet cushions and gold appeared, and he settled o it. The witch queen I captured-"
"Evon Zivox?"
"Yes,she reported to me from her detention zone that a demon was disturbing and trying to woo her daughter, Bellatrix."
"Does she know-"
"Yes, the little girl said the demon introduced itself as Aamon"Elon said briskly plucking a glass of wine from the air where it had just appeared.
"That's one of the Lemegeton".
"Exactly. The Ars Goetia. So, it's a female demon trying to woo your son . Probably, Lilith"Elon added with a grimace.
"No..."Caroline said, cold sweat trickling down her head at the thought of it "The Queen of hell cannot possibly like a half angelic breed".
"Seriously,"Elon said looking quizzically at Caroline"She once tried to seduce Michael".
Caroline frowned at her brother.
"That was thousands of years ago".
Elon stared at thin air. Caroline knew that he was genuinely worried.
"We can't risk another war with demons. This present war is too time-occupying. And we are against the other three Wich kingdom. And also, the information reaching me now is that Zivox has invited Dracula into the war."
Caroline looked at Elon sharply. Even though her family had rejected her, she still cared about them.
"We will try our best though. But I cannot deny that against Dracula and Zivox, our chances are slim."
"Elon listen please"Caroline said, sensing his resolve to leave." Can I have an audience with Bellatrix. I just want to ask her some questions"
Elon thought for sometime.
"I will try. It have be done slowly. Kang is getting stubborn."
Kang was their eldest brother, and heir apparent.
"You don't have to mention my name!"Caroline said quickly.
"Mentioning your name will only worsen matters. I'm visualizing possibilities without saying your name. Perhaps,if you could see..."
Images flashed through her mind. She slowed them down and watched them one after the other, and nodded as they faded away.
"Good. Thank you Elon. I really appreciate".
"Anything for my twin sis"Elon said ,as he dissolved into blue haze.
Caroline watched till the haze dissipated and then climbed her bed to sleep,a smile plastered on her face.
