Kaito Chapter 53
As their orders arrive, Kaito couldn't help but marvel at how much his little brother could eat. He watched in amazement as Naruto happily devoured two full bowls of ramen while their mother polished off four. With a small sweat drop forming on his temple, Kaito thought to himself, "How can he eat so much? He's only two years old... even i have trouble eating two bowls of ramen!".
Once they finished eating and paid for their meal, they headed back home. Kaito couldn't help but feel grateful that both his mother and brother were able to enjoy themselve, Ever since Danzo had publicly revealed that Kushina was the previous jinchuriki, she had decreased her outings drastically. But today seemed like she had a great time as she smiled and laughed freely among friends and family.
...
It was a cold winter night in Konoha, the air was crisp and the streets were lit by the soft glow of the moon. The time had long passed midnight as Kaito Uzumaki sat atop his family's residence, his bright red hair illuminated by the pale light. He sat in a meditative posture, using his Kagura's Mind's Eye to sense his surroundings. With this ability, he could sense up to a 5km radius in all directions.
Kaito's keen senses alerted him to the presence of ANBU guards hidden around his home, assigned by the third Hokage to protect Naruto. It was no surprise that they were on high alert, given the recent arrival of the Kumo envoy to complete a peace treaty with Konoha.
As he focused on his surroundings, Kaito couldn't help but be reminded of his mother's past. She had been kidnapped by Kumo during the second shinobi war and it was during her rescue that she fell in love with his father. She had shared this story with him when he asked, before Naruto was born.
It had been three days since the Kumo envoy arrived and today marked their last day in Konoha before returning to their village. Yugito and her team had already left the village the day after their arrival for the peace talks. Kaito suspected that Hiruzen had removed the Gogyō Fūin that he had placed on her, and she was ordered by the Raikage to return back to Kumo as as soon as the seal was removed. As a jinchuriki, it was likely that she would cause the tensions to be high in konoha. He knew that despite the peace treaty, tensions between Konoha and Kumo still ran deep.
Over the past few days that the envoy from Kumo had been staying in the village, Kaito had been keeping a close eye on them. Using his shadow clones, he silently followed their every move, making sure to stay hidden and undetected. Meanwhile, Kaito himself used Kagura's mind's eye technique to ensure that no one came close to his home.
The reason why the Kumo envoy was not aware of Kaito's presence was due to a stealth seal that he had created with the help of his mother. This seal served to completely erase his presence, chakra signature, and scent, making it nearly impossible for any tracker or sensory ninja to locate him.
Kaito was well aware of a chakra suppression technique taught to ANBU members that could achieve similar results. It was the same technique that Itachi had used when he infiltrated Konoha after the attack by suna and oto lead by Orochimaru. However, this technique had a major weakness - it prevented the user from using any chakra, even for basic body enhancement. And if the user did attempt to use their chakra, the suppression would immediately deactivate revealing the presence of the user.
But Kaito's stealth seal had no such weakness. It allowed him to freely use his chakra while remaining undetected. This gave him a clear advantage over any other ninja attempting to track or find him.
Just then, Kaito received a surge of memories from his shadow clone that had been spying on the Kumo envoy during their stay in the village. His eyes snapped open as he muttered, "Shit... how could I forget?"
Quickly thinking on his feet, Kaito created two more shadow clones and urgently commanded, "We don't have time, hurry up!"
All three of them swiftly flickered away towards their next destination.
...
In the heart of the hidden leaf village, nestled amongst tall buildings and bustling streets, sat Kaito's shadow clone, on a rooftop overlooking the city. The building was a good 3.5km away from where the Kumo envoy was staying in a luxurious hotel. With his legs crossed and eyes closed, Kaito's clone used his kagura's mind's eye ability to monitor the movements of the Kumo envoy and their entourage.
Although Kaito had found that his shadow clones didn't have as much range with kagura's mind eye ability as he did, they still had a decent reach of about 4 km. He had been tailing the Kumo envoy for an entire day, keeping an eye on their every move.
But then something unexpected happened - one of the ANBU assigned to guard and monitor the Kumo envoy was brutally killed by an unknown assailant. And as luck would have it, the same fate befell the other ANBU as well. It seemed that someone was targeting those who dared to keep watch over the Kumogakure envoy.
The clone's intense gaze locked onto the killer, searching for any trace of emotion. But all he felt was a blank void, as if their chakra was completely devoid of any feeling. The clone quickly rose to his feet, turning in the direction of the hotel and muttering under his breath, "What... is going on?" He could sense that the individuals responsible for killing the Konoha ANBU were still present and had taken up positions around the area. The clone's mind raced, trying to piece together the puzzle. "Root? What are they planning?" he thought, noting that the killer was wearing ANBU uniform as well.
Suddenly, one of the Kumo jonin emerged from the inn they were staying at. Dressed entirely in black with a matching cloth mask, he utilized a chakra suppression technique to stealthily make thier way towards the east side of the village. But Kaito's keen senses also picked up on the fact that the jonin had left a clone behind to take his place while he snuck out undetected.
Without hesitation, the Root ANBU followed after the Kumo jonin, careful not to give away his presence. And Kaito's clone trailed behind them both, determined to uncover their true intentions.
As he stealthily followed the Kumo jonin, His feet moved silently, barely making a sound on the forest floor as he trailed behind the figure ahead. As they neared the Hyuga compound, the clone could feel a sense of unease building within him. Murmuring to himself, he whispered "He's heading towards the Hyuga compound." Suddenly, a memory flooded his mind - the Hyuga affair and Hinata's kidnapping.
The clone now remembered how Kumo had offered a peace treaty to Konoha, only to betray them by kidnapping Hinata and nearly sparking a war. Hiashi, in a fit of rage, had killed the Kumo envoy in retaliation. Panic set in as the clone realized the gravity of the situation. "I need to notify the boss immediately," he muttered to himself, knowing that he had to inform the original about what was happening, and he dispelled himself.
...
Kaito, his body moving at top speed, flicked through the streets towards the Hyuga compound. With each step, his mind raced with thoughts and theories. "It makes sense now, thinking about it," he mused to himself. "In the original timeline, there were so many plot holes. How did the Kumo shinobi infiltrate the Hyuga compound without anyone noticing? And how did they manage to kidnap Hinata without prior knowledge of the layout?" He clenched his fists in frustration.
"And it seems like he had help from inside the village...from Danzo." As he leapt and weaved through the trees, memories flooded his mind. "But didn't that all happen on Hinata's third birthday and the day Neji received the Caged Bird Seal?" Kaito pondered. "Did my interference with Yugito alter the timeline?" The questions raced through his mind as he hurried towards the Hyuga compound, determined to change the outcome.
