The Kabuki Puppet, holding a candle, stepped into the mining tunnel.
With the varied sensations of the puppet, Kamiyagawa, who was controlling it from the outside, could almost experience the scene as if he was there himself.
Inside the mining tunnel, it was dark and humid. By the light of the candle, one could see that the surrounding walls and floor were made of yellow or brown rocks, covered with a thick layer of dust and mud.
In such an environment, one would soon find breathing difficult if physically present.
But the puppet, after all, was lifeless; though it could convey smells to Kamiya, it had no need for breath itself.
He continued walking deeper.
The light from the candle cradled in the puppet's arms grew slightly fainter.
Perhaps due to the moisture in the tunnel or possibly because the air inside was not circulating well.
