Lu Jingyan was stunned for a few seconds before he realized Sheng Xian knew he was downstairs at his residence.
She lifted her head and glanced up at his floor.
The lights were on, the curtains weren't drawn, yet his figure wasn't at the window.
As Lu Jingyan pondered how he knew she was downstairs, her phone buzzed with another message.
Sheng Xian: "Aren't you coming up?"
Lu Jingyan didn't know if she was tipsy from the alcohol, or if she had been numbed by the cold—as her mind was a bit sluggish, and she didn't know how to respond to the message.
Sheng Xian: "Forget it."
Forget it?
What did that mean?
Lu Jingyan unlocked her phone's keyboard, intending to type a reply.
Sheng Xian sent another before she could: "I'm coming down."
Lu Jingyan paused for a moment, then looked up again.
The lights on Sheng Xian's floor were now off.
She opened her mouth but for some reason, felt an unexplained sourness in the pit of her stomach.
