...
It was already three in the morning by the time Lu Jingyan finished dealing with Lu Hongcheng's affairs. She stepped out of the building only to discover a light drizzle had begun to fall outside.
The already sparse late-night traffic grew even less frequent in the rain, making the streets appear emptier. Sitting in the back seat, Lu Jingyan watched the layer upon layer of rain mist on the car window and thought back to the scene she had just been summoned to by her uncle, feeling a slight headache coming on as she softly pressed her temples.
The car swayed gently forward, and as it neared home, Lu Jingyan looked up and, through the blurred window drenched in rain, spotted a person standing by the side of the road.
He was very tall.
Holding a large black umbrella, which hid his upper body, all that could be seen at first glance were legs.
Although his face was not visible, Lu Jingyan recognized him immediately and, without hesitation, blurted out, "Stop the car."
The designated driver quickly hit the brakes.
Lu Jingyan lowered the car window, and the wind, carrying droplets of rain, rushed into the car, feeling cool against her face, sobering her up quite a bit. She blinked her eyes to focus better and peered outside, sure enough, it was that scumbag she had encountered earlier in the bar.
He was not alone; a girl stood in front of him, with long black hair and a long dress, looking very virtuous and dutiful.
The girl had no umbrella, and her hair was soaked as she looked up, crying with pear-like tears.
Sheng Xian didn't have a trace of pity, not bothering to hold the umbrella for the girl or even show much patience. Facing her crying, he was thinking of walking away.
The girl reacted quite quickly, seizing his arm before he could lift his leg to leave. She cried harder, as if pleading with him for something.
But he was unmoved, ruthlessly shaking off the girl's arm and walking away.
The gesture was even a bit violent, with an air of disdain.
The girl, thrown off balance, retreated a couple of steps and sat down on the ground, her crying growing even more woeful.
Lu Jingyan glanced at Sheng Xian leaving with his umbrella and then at the girl squatting on the ground, crying non-stop, imagining a scene of a love-struck heroine being cold-heartedly dumped by the male lead.
Admittedly, the sound of her crying, mixed with the pitter-patter of the rain, was indeed quite sorrowful.
Lu Jingyan slowly shook her head, signaling to the designated driver to drive forward, while leisurely thinking to herself that she had indeed not misjudged him; that man was as vile as a thousand-year-old demon.
Within half a minute, the car had passed Sheng Xian.
There was a red light up ahead, causing the car to stop.
Lu Jingyan rested her arm on the damp car window and, seeing Sheng Xian approaching, whistled at him.
Sheng Xian didn't react.
Lu Jingyan kept whistling.
Sheng Xian looked up under his umbrella.
Lu Jingyan's eyes sparkled with laughter, "Hey, big bro, need a lift?"
Sheng Xian, mute as ever, continued walking.
Lu Jingyan tapped her slender, beautiful fingertips on the car body and with a smile teased again, "Big bro, scared to get in my car?"
Sheng Xian turned his head to look at her.
Meeting Sheng Xian's gaze, Lu Jingyan's smile turned even more seductive as she flicked her hair, "Then... do you do online romance, big bro?" Lu Jingyan shook her phone, "How about we exchange contact info, and have an online romance?"
Sheng Xian: "..."
Sheng Xian held his umbrella as he locked eyes with Lu Jingyan for three seconds before turning right and walking away.
Lu Jingyan, watching Sheng Xian's retreating figure, blinked in disbelief.
He left?!
Only after Sheng Xian's figure had completely disappeared from view did Lu Jingyan dare believe he had truly left.
He was using her birthday as the hotspot password, yet he was still playing so coy.
After a few seconds, Lu Jingyan recovered from being given the cold shoulder by Sheng Xian.
Lu Jingyan, who saw no fault in herself, thought it through for a moment and then let out a slow "tch."
She hadn't expected this scumbag to be so crafty, playing hard to get.
Lu Jingyan, sprawled leisurely against the car seat, smiled, "Interesting."
She happened to have some free time lately and, idly tracing her finger on the car window glass, paused for a few seconds and said slowly, "Let's play then. Sooner or later, I'll make him cry."
