Mephit stopped him from going further with a dangerous look in her eyes.
"This... I'm not trying to take advantage of you."
Rod raised his hands and said seriously:
"What I mean is, I don't think you're Ominous, nor do I believe that being in contact with you for a long time will make me unlucky. If you don't believe me, we can go back to the inn and have a deeper conversation... uh, it's okay if you don't want to."
He coughed and then continued,
"You may be cursed, and maybe the Holy Church can't lift it for now, but that's not your fault. I once heard Teacher Chucher say that the Black Fog is the greatest curse in this world. If we're unwilling to lift a single person's curse, how can we lift the curses of the world?"
Mephit looked at him, her silvery eyes filled with complex emotions.
She said softly, "You're going to die."
Rod showed a sunny smile, "I won't die."
"Many people say that."
