The areas of the sewers where the Polluter Sect resided were hidden, abandoned, worthless, and posed no threat, known as "dead zones."
Thus, for the Doomsday believers, this part of the sewers was very unfamiliar, only briefly frequented during the "Savior Plan" when Black Priest Sarimi led some believers here for a while.
Yet the plan ultimately failed miserably, all four "Saviors" died, the fragments lost, all somehow related to that Rod.
