Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: My strange helper

Janet Pov

"Janet, we are sorry for not telling you about it since," my mom said to me with a dejected tone.

Once they broke the news to me, it just felt as if my whole life was turning upside down. I didn't know what I was feeling anymore.

I couldn't explain what was paining me the most anymore, whether it's pain that the people who I have thought to be parents since childhood were soon going to be executed or discovering that they weren't my real parents and that my real parents abandoned me when I was a baby.

My heart shattered as these thoughts ran through my mind. Tears started streaming down my face once again.

"If you people are not my real parents, then who are my real parents, and why did they abandon me when I was a baby?" I asked them with tears streaming down my face.

"We don't know anything about them; all we know is that their names were William Reghar and Juliette Reghar, and this is their picture," my dad said to me while handing me a picture that he took from his pocket.

Without hesitating, I collected the picture from him, and true to what they said, the woman in the picture was just a photocopy of me.

"And how am I going to find them?" I asked my parents.

"Just follow your instincts, and you will surely find them," my dad said to me.

"Janet, we want you to know that whatever happens, we love you like our own daughter, and if life will permit it, we will still keep on loving you," my mom said to me with tears streaming down her face, and immediately I rushed towards her and hugged her tightly.

"I love you too, mom, and you and dad will always be the parents I always wished for. Thank you for all that you and dad have done for me," I said to my mom while sobbing on her shoulders, and immediately my dad approached us and hugged all of us together.

I couldn't control my tears throughout the whole night. I kept on crying until I dozed off.

The next morning, I was awakened by the voices and footsteps of the guards who were walking around.

Once I stood up, I realized that my parents weren't in the dungeon anymore.

Without hesitating, I tried to mind-link with them, but I got no response, and immediately it dawned on me that they had been executed.

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and just like every other one, I was in the playground with my parents, enjoying the merry-go-round and the slide of the Jan glover.

I kept moving up and down as my dad pushed me from behind.

After some minutes, my mom came back with three ice creams and handed one to me and one to my father.

As my mom was leaking her ice cream, it mistakenly stained her cheeks, and immediately my dad approached and removed the ice cream from her cheeks with his tongue.

"Eww," I muttered to myself while looking at them in disgust.

Once they realized that I was looking at them, they smiled at me.

"Janet, don't worry; soon you will be eighteen, and by then you will already have a mate, and I promise you will no longer find these things disgusting," my mom said to me while smiling.

"I hope so because I can never do what dad just did," I said to my mom frankly, but she laughed wholeheartedly without replying.

My mom and dad are the best couple I have ever seen. I have never seen them quarreling and throwing words at each other, and sometimes I wonder how that is even possible because it's contrary to what I see in the movies.

Sometimes I always pray to the moon goddess to make my own love life the same as theirs.

As these thoughts were running through my mind, my mom and dad approached me while holding each other's hands.

"Janet, there is something we want to tell you," my mom said to me, and I nodded in agreement while wondering what they wanted to tell me.

"Janet, your dad and I love you so much, and we want you to always remember that, in any situation, you always remember that we love you," my mom said to me, and immediately my dad nodded in agreement.

"I love you guys too, and you are the best parents I could ever wish for," I said to them, and immediately they hugged me.

As they were hugging me, my dad slightly shifted his head and scooped my ice cream with his tongue.

"I saw you, dad," I said to him, and immediately he quickly disengaged from the hug and started running, and, without hesitating, I, too, started chasing him from behind.

As I was chasing him, a strange voice started calling my name from behind, but I ignored the call. But the more I ran, the louder the voice became, and just like a flash of light, everything started disappearing, while the strange voice that was calling my name kept getting louder and louder, and immediately I jerked up and realized it was just a dream.

I was still in the dungeon, and the morning sun was already penetrating through the windows of the dungeon.

Once I turned around, I realized that it was one of the guards that had been calling my name.

"Thank goodness that you are still alive. I thought you were already dead," the guard said to me.

"Who are you, and how do you know my name?" I asked him while leaning on the wall.

"That's not what is important now, you need to eat something you have been asleep for two days now," he said to me while handing a bowl of noodles to me.

"Why are you doing this, and how do I know that the food is not poisoned?" I asked him with an unfriendly tone.

Without replying to me, he shook his head in disbelief while dropping the food beside me.

As I was staring at the food, I quickly remembered that I hadn't discussed it with my inner wolf, and immediately I tried linking with her.

"Hello Tricksy Are you there?" I asked her, but I got no response, and immediately my heart skipped.

"Tricksy," I called out to her again, and immediately she replied:

"Yes, Janet, I'm hearing you," she replied, and immediately I heaved a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness, I thought that I had lost you too," I said to her.

"Come on, Janet, we are in the same body, so as long as you are alive, I'm alive too," she said to me, and immediately I remembered that she was right; we were actually in the same body.

"What do you think about the guard? Should I trust him?" I asked her.

"Well, we don't have any choice," she replied.

As I was discussing with my inner wolf, the guard tapped me, and immediately I jerked back to reality.

"If you aren't going to eat the food, simply tell me so that I can take it away. You have been staring at the food for over ten minutes now. He said to me, and immediately I looked at him with an unsure stare before taking the food.

"What is your name? I should at least know your name so that if I die after eating the food, I will know who killed me," I said to him while peering into his eyeballs.

"My name is Leroy; if that does you any good knowing it, I would advise you to eat the food in order to gather some strength to be able to escape from this dungeon," he said to me.

"What! Escape from here? How is that even going to be possible?" I asked him with a surprised tone.
