Kai stood by the bedroom window in his bright blue PJs and flip flops, staring outside at the morning snowflakes that fell on the once green leaves of the surrounding trees.
A month had passed since the incident and winter arrived quicker than expected. Everything had gone back to the way they were except that Aiden was hardly ever home nowadays since he had to temporarily take over CM enterprise. Since the exams and semester was over, he fully dedicated his time to taking care of it.
After Aidens father had left for Hong Kong, Anna had gotten married and had left the country as well for her honeymoon and probably won't come back anytime soon. Lilith did as she was told and went back home while Vladimir and Vance remained on land to run their casino hotel business under Inex which was supposedly owned by Ilya.
With Aiden always busy, Kia had began to feel his absence even more. The past month was bearable because everyone was busy with the semester exams but now that they were done with it and it was winter break, he couldn't stand it. Each time the young master came home, he would be tired and would go straight to bed and by morning, he was gone before Kai could even wake up.
It was Kai's first winter and they were supposed to spend this time together but the way things were going, Kai didn't think it would be possible.
Having to sit home and wait for Aiden to get back was becoming tiring and the thought of getting a job again had been in his head and this time he wouldn't take no for an answer.
The sound of the phone ringing on the bedside table drew the merman's attention and he went to answer the call,
"Hey Jenny," his voice sounded dull enough for Jenny to notice,
"I know you're bored out of your mind, so let's go hang out. There's this new cafe that just opened up let's go check it out." She sounded enthusiastic which made kai smile,
"What about Kevin? Isn't he going with you?"
Jenny heaved a sigh
"How many times must I tell you? He went on a trip with his family and won't be back till after new year."
"Well... the thing is... I'd love to come but I'm not sure Aiden would want me to leave the –"
"- Oh come on, you're not a child that needs his permission for everything, just... be rebellious for once."
It was true. Kai was getting too used to asking Aiden for his permission before he does anything and the latter was still too possessive anyway. Even though Aiden was the one who taught him everything, he couldn't continue this way. Aiden told him to rely on him but being dependent was tiring enough,
"I'll wait for you by the bus stop so don't be late, okay?"
"I'll be there." Kai replied and hung up.
He flung the phone on the bed and went into the walk in closet to get ready.
Maybe while he was in the main town, he would find a place to work. It was a good idea since Aiden was hardly around anyway, he wouldn't notice if he was gone during the day.
Kai wore a red polo neck shirt and topped it up with Aidens black overcoat. Wearing the young masters clothes was a habit he had developed anytime he missed Aiden. He was caught once but Aiden just found it to be adorable and let him carry on.
Because of the freezing weather, Kai wore a matching red sweat pant and winter boots. When he was done, he picked up his phone from the bed and hurried out of the house.
As Kai approached the bus stop and from the short distance, he caught sight of Jenny who sat on the wall seat with her figure slouched. Her gloved hands were clasped between her thighs in an attempt to shield them from the biting cold.
"Were you waiting long?" He questioned when he walked up to her and Jenny shook her head.
"Not too long. Luckily the bus will be here any minute" Jenny scooted to the side to give Kai some space to sit.
"How are things with your boyfriend going?" Jenny questioned with a small smile as if she was trying to tease the merman.
"I barely get to see him since he's always so busy. He comes home so late and sometimes he doesn't even come home at all because he's got due work to do. I mean I get that he's running a lot of businesses right now but sometimes I just wish we could spend time together."
Jenny stared at Kai with a perplexed look
"Wow... spoken like a true wife," Kai flushed at the comment and he nudged her arm with his elbow,
"Don't be like that, you're the one who wanted to know how things were going."
"Yeah and I immediately regret it," she Chuckled, "go see a shrink, they'll give you some advice." Kai shrugged his shoulders and went on to ask,
"What about you and Kevin?"
"Ehh? We just got together two weeks ago, there's nothing there to talk about."
"I guess you're right. Kevin's a nice guy,"
"Aishh, don't do that! It sounds really cheeessy. I feel like I'm talking to my mom about my boyfriend and she's giving me relationship advice." Their laughter died down soon enough and Jenny glanced to the side of the road where the bus was supposed to come from,
"It's taking longer than usual."
"Probably because they know you wanna board it." Kai commented and quickly stood up from the seat before he would get a whack on the head.
"Let's take a stroll to the next stop. It'll warm you up a little too." The merman smiled and stretched out his hand for her to take and she did.
They strolled hand in hand down the snow covered sidewalk, taking their sweet time to savour the moment of each step. Kai was right, walking actually warmed her up a bit. Sure, the winter breeze slapped her face, but she could handle that much. The roads were devoid of cars replaced instead by a stream of people, mostly couples ambling along the side walks.
The ambiance was just delightful, giving Jenny a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. She couldn't help but sneak a peek at the tall boy beside her, ogling his enchanting features. He was really beautiful and so was his tail.
Her gaze then moved down to his blonde hair that swayed gracefully in the direction the wind blew.
"Your hair's grown longer, how about we stop at a salon later,"
"No, Aiden was the one who made me cut it the first time. I actually like it longer."
Kai beamed yet Jenny couldn't help but feel bad for him... how could someone be so devoted?
"Kai, what would you do if Aiden says he no longer likes you." Jenny didn't intend to as such a question. It was just her thinking aloud but now that she asked, she couldn't take it back.
Kai's steps halted and he stared at the snow beneath his feet with distant eyes as if he was deeply lost in his own world. After some seconds, he rose his head again and smiled back at Jenny.
"Aiden wouldn't get tired of me, so there's no need to think about it." He continued forward to catch up to Jenny.
"By the way I've been thinking about getting a job again."
Jenny knew he didn't want to talk about it and was just trying to change the topic so she went on with it.
"You've thought about it before?"
"Yeah, Aiden said there's no need for it but I can't just sit at home and do nothing all day. I need to be productive," he rose his fist and flexed his inexistent muscle, this adorable act caused Jenny to chuckle,
"The cafe we're heading to doesn't have many employees, I'm sure they'll take you in."
"That's great we can ask for a spot when we get there."
"You're not gonna tell Aiden?"
Kai shrugged his shoulders and slid his hand into the coat pocket,
"You told me to rebel for a change and that's what I'm trying to do."
"Woo! Go girl! " Jenny cheered and Kai laughed heartedly.
Soon enough they arrived at the next bus stop and were just in time for the next bus. They swiped the card and took their seats and the bus drove off.
.
Aiden heaved a long sigh and leaned against the back rest of the swivel chair to stretch his aching back. His work desk in front of him was littered and stacked with a bunch of files and paper work. Even the mere sights of it tends to piss young master off. He was supposed to be the acting CEO so why was he so packed with work? His hand in the casino hotel wasn't making things at all easier for him and the deputy was as busy as he could be so the work couldn't be shifted on to him.
He didn't even have time for his lover anymore. He was sure that Kai would be feeling down by now but the boy would never say anything.
It would be nice to hold him in his arms for the whole day and not let him go anywhere.
Aiden heaved another sigh and turned to his computer,
"I better check on him." He muttered to himself and grabbed the mouse. Since Aiden knew before hand that he wouldn't get much time alone with the merman, he had CCTV cameras installed and connected to all his devices. He opened the camera in the room were Kai always stood but he wasn't there. After searching through the whole house, a vein popped on his head and he clenched his jaw and took out his phone to dial the number...
Where could he have gone?
